American Idol 1/22 auditions

P.S. Is every one else sing a commercial for NY lotto? I hope not because I’d be embarrassed for my lovely state.

Leave him alone, now, leave him alone? That’s an endearing choice, bahahah.

How old is the husky voiced boy?

No NY lotto here, you’re safe.

I like the paralysis kid.

Oooh, hurray for drunk Pauler! Husky voiced boy is 16? He’s got a nice voice but I think he’s too young. Only because he seemed like a nice kid who doesn’t need an Idol make-over.

I think they said earlier that he was 16.

He looks like someone that picks up older guys on MySpace, not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Me, too.

Paula: wanna squish you!
Simon: So, that’s a no from Paula.

Cute.

Oh, why did Carly destroy her pretty skin with that huge tattoo of another woman? Or was that a self-portrait?

Hated the song choice. Hated.

Or maybe some bro rape.

WARNING: Inappropriate and in bad taste!
Wow, they really like tatoos, don’t they?

I missed the last girl. Did she get in?

I think Carly is this year’s contestant that everyone wants to knock down a peg. She did really annoying things with that song–slowed it down too much, huge runs, and got squeaky at the end. Plus, her husband looks like a bad mugshot and she draws on her eyebrows with a pencil, and she says it’s “her year.”

I understand why Paula was encouraging that mess, she’s drunk after all. But yo dude what up wit all that yodel love, dog? It wasn’t even a lil bit pitchy?

Me too. Didn’t she do the same thing that the judges were complaining about last season? Too much “interpretation”, not enough actual singing.

My Idol favorite is the one who sings a song that makes ME want to join in. Much better than sitting here wondering if there’s a melody in there somewhere. Enough with the vocal tricks.

The 16-year-old was likable. The Aussie was hot, and he knows it.

Tetiana was indeed OB-noxious, and it wasn’t surprising that no one was waiting for her outside the door.

I haven’t followed Idol from the beginning. Anyone have an impression of how many finalists and winners have been actual music lovers? As opposed to those who have good looks and some talent but who just want to be famous?

Maybe I’m reading too much into it (because the guy did an Otis Redding song and did it well), but the Australian guy is the only one so far this season who seemed to appreciate what he was singing.

I think my favorite so far is the Vocal Paralysis kid.

Nice voice.

Hmm, of finalists and winners, I’d say most, if not all of them really love music. Whether that translates into something you can see (remember Carrie-bot?) is a different thing entirely, but I’ve never doubted that they love music.

On the other hand, you can love singing, and performing, and everything about music and not connect with the lyrics of any particular song. Especially since half these kids spend the finals singing songs they’re completely unfamiliar with.

I know I’ve asked this before but I don’t remember the answer (you know, that old and forgetful thing): Do they know before the season starts who the finalists are going to be?-- I mean besides those that get dumped for whatever reasons before the competition starts.

No. The judges pick the top 24 (12 men, 12 women,) and then the voting starts by the public. I think. Someone feel free to correct me!

Right now, they are picking lots of people to go to Hollywood, then when there, they cut to the top 24.

If by “they” you mean, have the contestants been told they will be finalists before the audition rounds are aired, then it’s also no, but it’s close in timing. At least, the way I remember it is that during the season with Mandisa, when she went to “The Chair” (the episode where they are told if they made the top 24), her audition had been aired already and she knew about Simon’s comments on her weight made after she left the room.

Now I could be misremembering or something, but that seems to me to be the reason on the whole Simon apologizing thing.

I think the quirky Scooter Girl from a few years back sang an original song and made it through to Hollywood.

Don’t really have much else to add. Liked the Aussie, the 16-year-old vocal paralysis kid, and the single dad. Not crazy about Carly. I prefer it when I can actually tell what song the person is trying to sing. Can’t wait until tonight!
