American Idol -- 1/30 Miami Auditions

bahahahah! American Juniors, and she didn’t make it, shocker!

I think what Randy said was true: she has a voice in there somewhere, underneath her precocious facade. Heh.

I loved her “I’m not acting, I’m 16!” thing at the end. So…if you’re not acting, that means you really are that much of a bitchy entitlement whore.

She was much better when she was 12. Simon had it right. She’s been “overindulged”.

How many auditions to Randy, Paula, and Simon hear at each location?

If they choose ~20 “golden ticket” winners, how many do they turn away? Obviously, they get shown the “goof balls” knowing they’ll turn them away and they get shown a few that could possibly succeed.

If they approve 20, immediately dismiss 25, and struggle over about 10, does this mean they genuinely only watch 55-70 auditions per locations?

Are there way more auditions that make it to the trio, but we aren’t shown?

I beg to differ.

I can’t stand these whiney people, like the Junior Idol. I can understand the first couple of seasons, because you do really really want them to pick you. But by now you’ve watched the show. You know whining and begging gets you no where. Grr.

My husband watched a bit of the show, for the first time ever. (He’s always worked nights.)

He was surprised that Junior Idol didn’t make it. I explained that the judges were looking for people that an audience would like. He says, “Oh yeah. She was kind of a bitch.”

He liked the sexy one with the blonde almost-dreads. I think it was her half-closed eyes.

I don’t even know why I watch this show - I just realized today that I watch half of it with my eyes averted because the embarassment is too painful to watch. :smack: I’ve never watched past the auditions though - maybe I will this time.

I was so caught up in LOST mania that I completely forgot about this.
Thanks for starting the thread!

Loved the two big black girls. But I shouldn’t jinx them.

I thought Corliss and Brittany were both very good and, IMO, show the most promise so far. I was very impressed with them, especially Corliss. Plus, they were adorable.

American Junior girl (Julie) sang much better at 12 than she does at 16. Somehow she’s gotten the idea since then that’s she’s God’s gift to entertainment; hopefully (although doubtfully) this experience will snap her out of it because I do think there’s a voice in there somewhere.

I also liked the single mom and one other girl who they didn’t give us any back story about (I think her name might have been Natasha? Husband and baby met her outside the room?).

Syesha was just OK. Simon was right … it did sound like she was straining with the high notes. I think if she had started that song a bit lower she could have nailed it.

Agreed on both counts.

I didn’t think the guy from Argentina was that great, though. I’m surprised that he got through.

I doubt he’ll have an improved accent, though, which I thought was … well, if not a cheap shot, at least an unreasonable demand. There have been pop singers with accents before, and if I were Latino that whole notion might piss me off. Nobody would even dream of asking a black person to drop his African American Vernacular English, or a white person to sound more like Little Richard or something. The guy should have been vetoed or put through based on what he sounds like now.

Are these episodes online somewhere? My TiVo didn’t record the Miami episode for some reason. :frowning: And from the previews, we were really looking forward to it.

How much of an annoying dork am I? I’ve been walking around all day singtalking BoysIIMen’s I’ll Make Love to You while thrusting my hips. My co-workers are tolerating me 'cuz it’s my birthday.

I was happy to see that Simon finally called someone out on that annoying “hold my finger to my ear for the phantom ear monitor” affectation.

I didn’t see the episode, but I know that if you close off one ear you can hear your own pitch a little better. I do it sometimes, has nothing to do with a “phantom ear monitor affectation”.

I don’t know, man…I was expecting better freaks. sigh Well, there’s still Atlanta to look forward to.

My boyfriend’s brother and his wife were at the Atlanta auditions. There is a photo of them on the AI site in one of the crowd shots. We’ll be looking for them in all the stadium pans
