I thought the two who made it through were the right ones. I think Matt is charismatic, and the Hawaiian girl seems like she can actually sing. Maybe I’m the only one, but I’m glad Lisa didn’t make it. I can’t look at that grill for another week. And, I didn’t think she was that great a singer.
Looks do count, especially for females in this competition. Lisa is overweight, and has no grace with her performances. I think men can get away with more, because people tend to look past appearances (Ruben and Clay being prime examples).
I like Matt.
There. I’ve said it.
I think he’s got a strong voice and a fun personality. I don’t think his performance Tuesday was the best he could do, but, frankly, I think the show needed a guy in the final group. I wouldn’t be surprised if TPTB dinked with the votes to get him into the final 12. (This is FOX so I put nothing past them!!!)
Camille? Sorry, folks, she’s my choice so far for first off the island. She’s got a tiny little voice and she shakes like a rabbit on stage. I’m not comfortable watching her at all.
And I hope Briana gets another chance in the wild card competition, too.
I’d be very interested to see how many votes were cast for each contestant. I was floored when Mr Big TV Star said that one of the brothers got 70,000 more votes than the other. Not 70,000 votes. Seventy thousand more. Just how many people wanted to hear that ineptitude again?
Like I mentioned before, this week was the first time I ever voted, mainly because I happened to have an AT&T Wireless phone nearby so I could just text it in. I got back:
Love that ‘U’ in there. Anyway, I thought it was cool that they have people send in notes like that. I hope the losers at least received a few nice words, since they sure aren’t getting 'em on the internet (for example: they all sucked!).
Ah, but remember it’s not 70,000 unique voters we’re talking about. Two hours is a pretty long time to hit talk/redial/end, talk/redial/end, eh? I’m just glad they’re gone now.
I know last year I was getting a cramp in my thumb trying to help Kim stay in the finals and beat out the Carmen/Julia/Kimberly barbies!
I like him, tooannieclause. You said it exactly, he’s talented and ambitious and enjoyable to watch If he’s feeling a tad insecure from Simon’s constant bashing on him, I wouldn’t mind making him feel all better for an hour or two.
I enjoyed Matt’s performance, too, though I feel his Tuesday performance wasn’t up to his potential. That might be because IMHO he picked easily the best song so far sung in the competition. I give Matt a ton of credit for taking on a challenge like that.
I feel the same for the guy who sung “Open Arms” last week. Selection of material holds a lot of sway for me.
Strangely enough, when Matt sang “What You Won’t Do For Love” last night, he sounded twice as good as he did Tuesday. Hopefully, he learns to keep his nerves in check in future performances.
I do happen to like Matt, so it was a pleasant surprise to see him get through. But, I feel for Lisa. At least she made the top three though. Hopefully, she’ll get to be a Wild Card along with Briana.
I like Matt. I like his voice and I think he could be one of the better singers in the competition if he plays to his strengths instead of playing it safe. I still think his operatic song after his original audition (the one that sent him to Hollywood) was FANTASTIC.
That said…I think Lisa was robbed. She was so much better than Camille. Camille might have good “tone”, but she’s nervous as heck. She’s going to be another Julia DeMato and clam up the minute she gets on stage. I just don’t see her sticking around very long.
BTW, I would also like to add that I’m really warming up to Ryan Seacrest. I actually liked him last night. Especially when he talked back to Simon about “not caring” and taking a little responsibility for sending the Group 2 contestants to the semi-finals.
More love for Matt, here. My wife was hitting send/redial for him, and its been a coupla decades since she was 12…I think he was a very worthy choice, and will do well in the finals. We picked him as our rooting choice from his first audition.
On the other hand, whoever was responsible for Jesus & Noel getting to the 32 oughta be shot. They stunk in their initial auditions–I couldn’t believe they made it to Hollywood, much less the next round–and they wound up taking the spots of 2 much more qualified people.
I’m assuming they build the groups of 8 through a seeding process, right? You don’t want your 8 best in the same group…that would be real stupid…
I fully agree. If his orginal performace were as good as his encore one, I wouldn’t be as ticked about Lisa not making it (although I do feel she’ll be a wild card). Heading into this week, I was realling pulling for Matt to make it, but there’s no way people could judge him on that performance and vote him through. Hopefully he’ll watch the two performances again and see that he’s got to shake the nerves to perform well.
Lisa definitely should have went in above Camille. Yes, Camille does have great potential, but her style seems very weak. Too mousy. And the crying has got to stop. If I’m not mistaken, she’s cried on during every epidode she’s been on so far. And I happened catch Ryan Seacret’s talk show today (home with the flu – nothing else on), and they had Matt and Camille on. Camille cried after watching her performance, and then again when she met Jennifer Love Hewitt. Enough with the water works already!
BTW, last night’s funniest moment: Ryan is about to start pulling the top three from the couch, and Noel is in the upper left seat, where Ryan is going to start. Ryan saying something along the lines of “Let’s find out who our top three are. Noel…”, and Noel starts to stand up, thinking he’s made it! Ha! Not in this lifetime, Buddy.
Gosh - there really are so many shows out there- reality tv alone. I just heard of a new one with a wiccan and a vampire and a voodoo priest? anybody heard of this?
I can’t imagine we’ll be seeing anyone from this episode again. Lisa was pretty good, but all six of the runners-up last week were better, and we have sixteen people yet to get through. Not to mention worthy pre-finalist potentials like Mr. Ego (the one that Simon liked) and Scooter Girl.
