American Idol 2/22, Estrogen

Discussion of the girls’ performances aside, can we talk about the utter lameness of The Dog Pound? WTF was that? Besides painful and embarrassing, that is.

Anyway, I like Carrie. Her performance was confident and genuine. I’m eager to see what she’ll do when it comes to the theme nights (crossing my fingers she makes it that far).

Was bored through the performances of:

Amanda
Sarah
Jessica
Melinda
Lindsay

If the two going home are from that group, I won’t be too upset. I like Janay so hopefully she’ll get over her nerves. If not, add her to the list of girls to go.

As Randy would put it, though, Babs can blow. The jury’s out as to whether Mikalah can sing at all.

Common thread from both guy & girl nights – think of all the comments that boiled down to: you were ok, but the song was boring. I think the moral of this story is: there are a lot of boring songs out there. Pick something good. You can’t go wrong with a classic – pick a show tune, torch song, Gershwin, Motown.

I thought Nadia did great, and Aloha’s performance was entertaining as hell. I really enjoyed watching her move on the stage. It seemed really natural, unlike some other contestants who either didn’t move more than 2 inches throughout their entire performance or who’s movements seemed completely forced or contrived.

Count me amongst those who cannot stand Mikalah. She just seems so fake and over the top. I think Simon’s getting a little irritated with her too at this point. She’s like the Energizer bunny after a quadruple shot of espresso, she just tires you out. I just wanna yank those batteries right out.

I felt so bad for Janay. She’s got a good voice she just seemed so damn terrified. I predict she’ll get a few pity votes, though.

When Carrie was singing I just kept thinking now, is this a Tiffany or Debbie Gibson song? I thought she did great, she’s got an amazing voice. The whole empty-headed thing is sort of a turn-off though. Reading her profile on the AI website, you can practically hear the wind whistling through her head.

My favorites at this point are Nadia (the woman, god I hate how they call them “girls”, some of these women are near 30, f’n owned that performance), Carrie (despite the empty-headed vibe, the girl can sing) and Aloha.

Vonzell–Usually “Heatwave” is a kiss of death song, but she did very well. Liked her a lot. Worthy of some votes!

Amanda–She can certainly sing, but I wasn’t impressed. I’m with Simon, but I’d rather not be the microphone.

Janay–She sounded like she was being electrocuted! Yick! Very disappointing.

Carrie–Wow! Just WOW! Loved it! Got some of my votes!

Sarah–She tried to be entertaining, but failed. Far too weak to impress anyone. Hollow.

Melinda–Lame, just lame. Trenyce’s version blew this one away. Basically, Melinda muted this song. Bah!

Nadia–OH! Smoking hot! I enjoyed her performance very much! Excellent! Now I can remember her! Worthy of some votes!

Celine–I liked the song, but the performance wasn’t great.

Mikela–Talking during her performance hurt her. Gods know she can sing, but her antics make her annoying. I don’t mind her sticking around, but I don’t think I could ever route for her. I’m with Simon.

Lindsay–Forgettable.

Jessica–One needs a strong voice to sing “Against all odds” and she didn’t have it. Meh

Aloha–Whoa! Loved her to pieces! One of the best of the night. Would probably get most of my votes!

I won’t be watching the results show though. Project Runway is on at the same time. Oh well…
Top–Aloha, Vonzell, Nadia, Carrie

Bottom–Lindsay, Jessica, Janay, Sarah

…or like a velociraptor. Sarah Mather did that dance where you spread your legs apart and look like you’re trotting on a really slow horse, and then she modified it by moving around, causing her to walk like an angry velociraptor. I was scared.

Another vote for that here. She reminded me of Scooter Girl from last season. She probably has a decent voice with the right song and movements, but her attitude and persona is just SO ANNOYING that you can’t stand to listen or watch another second.

Oh sweet baby Jesus, Mikalah must GO! Except for Carmen-the-Goat-Girl and possibly Kimberly Caldwell, I have never hated a contestant more. Seriously, when did “looking like a cross between a hooker and a drag queen” become a talent? Because singing sure ain’t what that girl can do. And picking a hairdo isn’t it, either. What was that hot mess on her head?

I don’t know what that was. I suspect no one really does.

I’m hoping she’s gone too. This isn’t a normal reality show where the continued presence of the quirky annoying person can stir up some good TV. This is American Idol, where her sticking around will only result in more of her “singing.” It’s just brutal.

Thinking about it - who would really be voting for her? Young girls and teens tend to vote for the teen queens sometimes, but it seems like anyone fitting that description would go for Carrie. Horny males? There are a lot of hotter competitors. People with discerning ears? No way! Who’s left? Blind Barbra Streisand fans? Fran Drescher herself? I’m definitely predicting she’ll be in the bottom few tonight.

God, I hope so. She sounds and looks like undiluted New Jersey.

Carrie and Nadia are my early favorites.

Yeah, when they were showing the scene from her first audition in black and white I found myself thinking hot damn, she looks like she just rolled out of a gutter… She’s just too much. Someone needs to tell her to tone it down a notch. I noticed a few of the male contestants weren’t clapping for her when she finished. As annoying as we may find her, I’d imagine the other contestents must find her utterly unbearable. Can you imagine spending as much time around her as her fellow contestants do? I’d be arrested for attempted homicide within a week (attempted because she’d probably jump right out of my clutches like a crack addled little energizer bunny).

AwSnappity, I’m with you on Sarah Mathers. That’s probably due to the fact that my S.O. went into a full-on trance during her first audition. I kept telling him “she makes it” (we were watching it on Tivo and he was only intersted in the bad singers) and he responded “I don’t care how she sings.” I was glad when she did that annoying little hair flip during the start of the show, as I felt it justified my utter hatred of her. Slutty Michelle Pfieffer is the perfect descriptor. Yeah, I know. I never claimed not to be petty.

Why only one girl? I’m confused.

Melinda…I’ll say it really slow…you? suck. Buh bye.

I think they’re just dragging it out. They said she got the lowest number of votes, not that she was the only girl going…ow…she was pitchy again. Future contestants? Don’t attempt Celine if you don’t have the chops.

Private Pyle looks. . . not so creepy.

I don’t think this has aired on the West Coast yet so maybe spoiler boxes are in order?

Man, that was harsh. And poor Melinda was really fighting back the tears as she sang. She’s got a good voice, and I’m sure that if she keeps plugging, she’ll succeed. Still, the two I voted for–Nadia and Aloha–are still in.

Please let the other girl be Mikaylah. I can’t stand her!

I throw myself on your mercies, Biggirl! It’s difficult to do two things at once…and listening to someone talk AND trying to figure out what song someone is singing at the same time is not easy, but I couldn’t give up, I’d started out so strongly. (I’m not THAT young! I’m 29) I don’t think they have an official list of what songs everyone sings, but someone requested it when the guys sang, so I thought I’d give it a whirl.
WTH is with Bo tonight? I lerv him but he was rolling his eyes when Ryan was going through the list of people on the top row.

Heh…way to dick with Constantine for absolutely no reason.

They do, they do! Go to the official site (www.idolonfox.com) and go to the contestants section. If you click on the pictures, they keep a list of what songs each contestant sings.
