I get a different vibe from him. An actual 'angry at the world ‘cause all it does is kick me’ type of vibe. He knows he’s funny looking and awkward, which makes him standoffish, which makes him look even more socially awkward, which he knows and it makes him cross over from standoffish into leave-me-alone-ish.
It’s the way he doesn’t look anybody in the eye and lowers his head. Makes him look mean and creepy.
I’m with you. I get the feeling he’s been shit on so many times in his life, he’s just waiting for this to crash down on him. The only thing he’s ever been secure or confident about is his voice, which is great, and it seems like he’s out to prove that he’s worth something not only to his dad but to everyone else who’s ever shit on him. Which is probably a lot of people.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I think he’s pretty genuine. When he says his dad never believed in him and he wants to prove him wrong, I believe him. When he says he wants to make a better life for his son than what he had growing up, I believe him. I believe him when he says the biggest struggle he’s had in his life is his battle with his weight. I like people like him better than the ones who seem like they’ve always had everything handed to them and expect that to continue for them in AI. People like Sarah Mather. (Not that that’s necessarily true about her, I know, but that was how she acted last night.)
I’ve only seen about half his performances, but I like him a lot. And when he told about why he wanted to do good, he didn’t bring it up. All he said on paper is how he wants to prove something(he may have said why on the paper-we don’t know)… They asked him about it, and why he thought that, then he brought it up. I don’t think that’s milking it.
I hope he wins. But let’s face it, how many 15 year old girls are gonna vote for him?? I also thought the music on the womens show was too loud, sometimes it was hard to hear some of the womens’ voices…except Mikalay.
I like that, I was struggling to find the right words and couldn’t, but that fits.
I believe him too, yellowval. Of course any parent has the same goals, ever met a parent who said “me, I just plan on giving them 3 squares and a bunk, they’re on their own for everything else”? It’s like a given and mentioning it seems cheesy somehow. Granted, since being a parent is something that sets him apart from most of the other contestants, maybe it is worth remarking. To me it just seems painfully obvious, at least to grownups but maybe he’s thinking it’ll play well and get an “awww” reaction from the teenyboppers since he knows he can’t connect with the Tiger Beat crowd in the usual fashion.
Everything’s edited to death anyway, he could be the nicest fella in the world, he just rubs me wrong from what I’ve seen.
