American Idol 2/29 and beyond.

Heh. I’ll give him handsome if he loses the little beard thing.

Did anyone else think Elliott Yamin was taller? I just noticed last night that he’s shorter than Seacrest. I liked the bit with his “verklempt” mother. Ah, so he is Jewish, then? I at first thought “Yamin” sounded possibly Arabic.

So, I’ve been thinking about this. I mostly expect Sway & David Radford will be out tonight. Just going out & imitating Philip Bailey or Frank Sinatra, & not smoothly, just isn’t enough. At least, not for me.

That leaves eight:

The way people vote, three are likely to crack the top 12 for distinctiveness, & sadly, probably eventually leave behind better singers.
Squish --hey, he’s getting by on the baby face. I expect he’ll make the 12, but it’s for the novelty of those looks with that voice. He’s not really a great, or even particularly good singer. And he’s too young. Done with him.
Bucky --getting by on twang & tone. Not sure there’s enough musical education under there.
Taylor Hicks --or Jay Leno Cocker. I confess, I find the prematurely gray goofball appealing, but he’s in this category too, really.

Then there are the cute guys:
Ace did not do as well as I thought he could after last week. Boy may be gone. And the first week, I thought he was going to be in it through the whole season, with those eyes.
Will really surprised me last night. Now it’s, “Ace who?” Never mind Squish, this is the kid to watch.

Elliott Yamin is in a weird position. The judges build him up, which is good. I don’t think I’d notice his chops otherwise, 'cos his songs choices make me yawn. He may simply be too jazz for this show. Or maybe just too jazz for me. But he’s cute. Maybe he can put together a broad base of appeal as a short Southern Jewish guy with a close face-framing beard? I dunno.

Then there are the serious leaders:
Gedeon McKinney, whaddaya know, actually has “it”! I was so turned off by his speech about having “it” on the callback/final-judges’-cut show, but now I’m pulling for him.
And Chris Daughtry. Man. When people say, “A guy is going to win this,” I think, “If by ‘a guy,’ you mean Chris Daughtry.”

'Cos really, most of the field of guys aren’t so hot. With Mandisa, Lisa & Katherine in the show, I don’t think the guys as a whole are so impressive. But Chris & Gedeon are actually worth watching.

I missed the last 30 minutes on account of Lost. Could someone give me a recap of Bucky’s interview? Is he pulling a Pickler and acting more retarded than southern?

I haven’t watched this season at all yet but I caught the last 4 or 5 singers last night and the highlights of each person at the end. Yikes. I’ve haven’t heard more out of tune vocals since I went to the last Chicago concert.

I thought Bucky from Texas did okay on “Thunder Road.” Thought Chris did great. The others were boring or karaoke singers at best.

[Paraphrasing]
What confuses me the most about California is the food. At home if you order chicken and mashed potatoes, you know you’re gonna get chicken and mashed potatoes. Here they got SMASHED potatoes. And I don’t even know what they got on the chicken. It’s like French or somethin’. I don’t know what I’m gonna get."

Bah…I liked Brenna. America got it wrong. Pickler is ten times as obnoxious as Brenna is.

Yay! Or, I think I’ll miss her. I loved to hate her. Unlike Mikalaiakai-- I so wanted her gone.

I wasn’t a Brenna fan but both the Pickler and Heather certainly should have gone before her.

When Carrie started singing, my son came in and sang, “Jesus, take the wheel cuz I’m too drunk to drive.” And I didn’t know what he was talking about. Until Carrie got to the chorus.

My son is funny.

No, Brenna was absolutely the worst singer and the most unenjoyable personality. America got it right. Karma wins!

Heather will not be missed. She can go start her porn career now.

And she can keep the nickname Heather “Sux” Cox!

What exactly do you like about Brenna?

Phew, Kinnik survives. She did suck yesterday but it was more of a song choice and costume issue.

Brenna - this is the fifth season of AI, right? Diva-ness may have been novel seasons 1-4, but it ain’t anymore. She paid the price for acting an ass during Hollywood - Mikayla had some talent and a streak of self-reflection that made her slightly more bearable, but I can guarantee to all the divas in training for AI next year - get a personality transplant. Pickler is playing the country bumpkin card way too often but better to err in the direction of being too nice than too bitchy…

Oh for fuck’s sake. My local Fox affiliate is running a story about The Pickler on the 10:00 newscast. It involves her grandfather. Where’s the barfing smiley?

He sang “The Thunder Rolls,” by Garth Brooks, not the Bruce Springsteen classic. But what a great song choice it would be if he or Taylor or Chris DID sing Thunder Road!!!

Her confidence, for one thing, plus I just think she has a certain presence about her. She’s posing but she doesn’t pretend she’s not posing. There’s an honesty about. Contrast that with the Pickler, who I feel more and more is a complete fraud. I just have a feeling that if I spent any time with them, I’d come away liking Brenna way more than some of the others. They ALL have egos, make no mistake. Brenna is just more up front about it.

I really hate the results show. It should be a half an hour.

A-men!
I’m surprised Kevin is in the bottom three. I thought he did poorly, but I thought the “adorable” factor would be worth more.

God, he sounds so bad.
