What, no American Idol thread yet?

Here it is, Tuesday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. EST, and the latest American Idol thread is on page 4 of Cafe Society. Until now, that is.

I shouldn’t be starting the thread this week, people; I’m hardly even following the show this season. But I will say I’m glad of two things: first, that the character most reminiscent of Mackayla Gordon is gone already; and second, that I missed her farewell rendering of “Last Dance.”

Seriously, is there going to be a thread today, or is everybody just going to buy a DVD of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and blow off the show tonight?

Well, it’s women’s night. Paris will disappoint. Mandisa will save the day. And then the rest. What’s there to say?

I dunno. How 'bout:

No Potter here. I just got the DVD of a BBC series, North and South, and will be watching that.

I’ll be TiVo’ing Idol, and probably fast-forwarding to the judges’ comments.

I’m a little post-shy after the crabiness of last week, but I expect I’ll be back after the to say that your favorite singers all suck.

I’m here, getting on with my bad self. Just made some fresh Kool-Aid, so this will be fun!

Interesting… Doing Miami Sound Machine…

I like her vocals, and she looks more youthful…

She’s not disappointing…

Paris Sound Machine. This isn’t really a singer’s song. It’s just ah’ight for me.

Lib was right – Paris disappointed. Not a good song choice.

I’m having trouble remembering why I was so gung-ho about Paris originally. She’s been so mediocre. Can’t she find a middle ground between “Bubbe Ruth works up the nerve to sing her favorite song at Danny’s Bar Mitzvah” and “Dancing with the Stars”?

I am not a fan of the dress-over-jeans look. It makes her look inexplicably and tragically hippy. (And anyway, didn’t Nina Garcia tell Kara Saun it was “over” last year at about this time?) But I do appreciate how well Paris can pull off the turquoise eye shadow. That is not a fashion statement for the weak. She’s cute, and an OK dancer. I wish she sang a little better tonight, but I already know she’s not the worst we’re going to hear.

What did it for me with Paris initially was her Billie Holiday during her audition; it was amazing, but she hasn’t lived up to that moment.

Cool. Lisa is about the last person I would have expected could pick up a guitar and play “Purple Haze.” Hendrix is my all time favorite musician. Lisa just got bumped up a notch in my esteem.

She’s singing pretty well too.

Lisa… I liked her ballad… Nice… and sounds older…

Just got in so I missed Paris. And Lisa is underwhelming me.
Also, I’d say why I didn’t start this week’s thread but civility prevents.

Simon is exactly right about Lisa: She keeps singing all these too-old, grown-up songs, and right now she looks like she’s about 35 years old. What Lisa really needs to do is crack open the Debbie Gibson catalog. Is she adverse to dancing or happiness or something? All her songs are so serious.

I like Melissa… She looks so much better today than the other week…

If she likes fast cars, she should sing Prince’s “Little Red Corvette”…

I always hated this song.

Is it just me or does the musical accompaniement sucks this week? Or perhaps I didn’t notice before? It sounds so bland…

Simon always says “karaoke,” but THAT was totally karaoke.
