If you start an AI thread and nobody posts, does it make a sound? American Idol 4/11

and 4/12.
Went back to the other thread to see if I could find the Queen Wish Lists only found three but I wasn’t a real close examination.

Bucky should do the Highlander theme.
Ace should do “I Want to Break Free”…like Freddie Mercury…in a dress.

Com’on guys, still plenty of time to put in your wish list!

Can you tell I’m so excited about Queen. This will be the first time I’ve seen them live since that Freddie Mercury salute where George Michael sang Somebody To Love. That was a looooong time ago.

USA Today has the song list up on their site.

The only one I guessed right was Taylor. The most disconcerting item on the list is that the Pickler is going to do a “countrified version” of “Bohemian Rhapsody in Blue.” [shudder].

I guess that could be a good thing. The “ghastly” potential from Simon will be through the roof on that one.

I like Bucky’s choice.

What? No one’s doing “Flash”?

Heehee. I’ve got this image in my head of her coming onstage with a clarinet, and wailing away, a la Woody Allen on Oscar night.

Seriously, if they’re only going to give you ninety seconds to sell the song, why pick one that’s supposed to be* five minutes of beautiful music? This isn’t a ocmmercial for a K-Tel compilation disc, after all.

Great Merciful Heavens. If this were vBB Coding Idol, I’d be voted off in a heartbeat for that.

I got 3 out of eight. And I dunno 'bout you, but Kellie doing Bohemian Rhapsody is almost as good asher doing Flash.

Chris calls the song he’s doing “little known” even though it’s on Queen’s Greatest II. He’s not as cutting edge as he thinks.

So which grunge band covered Innuendo?

Yes, he’s almost as original as you are, making the same comment week after week.

Well, I suppose it makes sense that no one took “We Are the Champions” or “Another One Bites the Dust.”

Y’know, Queen should perform “Another One Bites the Dust” Wednesday night.

OK, I’m going to put this in a spoiler box, as if anyone cares. (individual choices)
Ace, “We Will Rock You”: Can’t blame him. Somebody had to do it; it’s a short song which can fit in the 1:30 window. Maybe too obvious for some people. Not a style I associate with the Face; I might have picked “Under Pressure” for him. I’d rather hear Katharine do WWRY, but she picked well; more on her later.

Bucky, “Fat Bottomed Girls”: I don’t know this song. But hey, it sounds like it might work. Last week, Bucky impressed me. Rock on.

Chris, “Innuendo”: He took one of the songs Queen never performed live? Does he not realize there’s a reason for that?

Yamin, “Somebody to Love”: Good fit.

McPhee, “Who Wants to Live Forever”: The only contestant to take a Highlander song! I want to whoop, but instead I’ll just be cautiously optimistic. It is, I note, close in style to her showtune background.

Pickler, “Bohemian Rhapsody”: What? How can this work? What part, exactly, of this song fits in with her image? Or is she going to roll through it apparently obliviously? Maybe she figures guys like a girl who’s too dim or too innocent for her lyrics, I dunno. But, it’s, just, daft.

Paris, “The Show Must Go On”: So, will this be a good week, a glurgy week, or a just bizarre week for Paris? I vote bizarre.

Taylor, “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”: Not exactly a stretch. May hurt him, since David Radford already did it.

What? No one did “Under Pressure”? Bah!
Um, yeah, I should have previewed. Um, mods?

I reported it for you. Hopefully someone will be along to fix it soon.

Nearly all these choices feel bizarre to me. Ace can actually be okay when he can sing rather than try to do weird affective things, so I’m not sure if it’s a good or bad thing that he chose a song that doesn’t involve a lot of real singing.

I love the song that Bucky’s doing, but I’m not sure I love him doing it. It can be a lot of fun and he has good energy, but he’s just not that good of a vocalist. I hate to think of him butchering the notes. This might be the one to make-or-break him.

Chris…hmm. Probably another safe, hold-on-for-dear-life type of song if he plays it straight. I have this album but I can’t remember the song, so maybe it’s good that fewer people have a real strong opinion of it. If he can really put an interesting, personal stamp on it (and NOT by alt-rocking it up) it could reawaken my faith in him. 'Cause now, I’m really over his schtick.

Elliott’s and Katharine’s choices are good for their strong voices. They’ll knock them out of the park, I’m sure. But Katharine is choosing another slow, moody song which may not impress the fence-sitters. For Elliott, it may be his best hope for making a play for the front-running pack.

Kellie…yeargh. Just kill me now. Please, let it be so horrible that even those who drink the Kellie Kool-Aid will spontaneously combust in shame.

I worry that Paris, known for her bubbly cuteness, will be tackling possibly the saddest song they’ve ever done. Lots of power notes, though, which she can pull off.

As for Taylor, I’m sure he’ll be fine, but it’s just the sort of song which will bring out all the annoying qualities which he’s been so good at supressing these last few weeks.

I got 1. But it’s extra credit for being a real shot in the dark, right? RIGHT?

I’m so rooting for Bucky tonight. I didn’t think anyone would have the guts to sing it.

Seems the Brittenbaums aren’t the only twins to have had a run-in with the law. . .

American Idol Contestant Fooled Cops with Twin Tales Bucky Covington, one of the eight remaining finalists on “American Idol,” was once arrested for his involvement in a bizarre incident in which he pretended to be his twin-brother to help the sibling avoid criminal prosecution. The case ended in a trial that was so strange the prosecuting attorney said he “hadn’t seen anything like it in 10 years of practicing law.”

No Killer Queen?

I hate hate hate Crazy Little Thing Called Love. It’s impossible not to sound like a drunk dad at a wedding when you sing that ersatz retro-junk. Guess it’s going to be two Taylor crap-fests in a row. Too bad. That boy was born to sing the blues.

It’s going to be an interesting night.
Hmmmm.

I’m back, and just in time for Queen night, yay me!

Someone noticed my absence, right? Bueller?

If The Buckster can pull Fat-Bottomed Girls off, I might just have to stop hating on him. Can’t wait to see the trainwreck of Kellie’s Countrified Rhapsody, either. I can’t decide who’s more annoying though, her or Ace, they flip-flop my ick-meter weekly.

Queen, baby, woo!

I have been begging for someone to sing “Fat Bottomed Girls” for, like, at least two seasons now. Finally, Bucky’s going to do it.

And the moral of that story is: Careful what you wish for. My Og, I am an asshat.

Bucky! I love that song! And he’s having fun… I like him…
