I don’t know, it looks to me that Randy says what he thinks Simon is gonna say. I swear I see him sneaking peeks at Simon through the corner of his eye. Is it me or is the order always Randy, Paula, Simon during the critique part of the competition?
That’s not how it goes in my head! Thanks for the correction.
Was I surprised by who was voted out? Not really. I knew Stevie would be one of the first. I guessed either Becky, Melissa, or whatshername as the other…you know, the forgettable ones, at least in my book.
Like I said earlier, I didn’t see Bobby’s performance last night. But if his send-off was any indication…:shudder: “Copacabana” can be a great song for somebody with the right vocal range and attitude, neither of which Bobby possessed.
I was disappointed about Patrick. He could’ve picked a better song than “Come Through My Window” (again, a great song for a particular type of voice), but he wasn’t that bad.
I agree with Dio about Simon and Randy this season. It’s about time they got a bit more serious and constructive with the criticism. Even Paula seems to be following suit.
Isn’t that always the case with internal lyrics ?
Sometimes I wish I could let people hear what some songs sound like in my head.
Incidentally, am I the only one who laughed out loud last night when Simon said to Paula, “you haven’t been in enough bars.”
Anyone who watched the last couple of season knows THAT’S not true. Say what you want about Paula, one thing is for certain: she’s been in enough bars.
Katherine reminds me of a young Linda Rondstadt. I think she would do well to sing Its So Easy.
I wasn’t upset by who left, but it’s too bad we’re stuck with Brenna for another week. Her day is coming.
Lisa Tucker looked like she was totally devastated after hearing the news about Patrick getting the boot.
I wasn’t torn up to see either of the guys leave who left (I missed the girls the other night so I can’t really judge), but I couldn’t believe David was given a stay of execution. He’s certainly cute in that way that teenage twinkie guys are cute, but that was quite possibly the most gruesome slaughter of a song I’ve ever heard by anybody in the final 24. Just bloody terrible, not a banality unturned in delivery. I half expected him to cry out “I Love You Sheboygan Moose-Club!”
Sheboygan is a long ways from Cyrstal Lake.
Anyways, I surprised so many people think he’s a bad singer. I agree that the song arrangement was a bad one and the crooner thing is a bit much, but from a purely technical standpoint he was pretty strong. He’s got a good voice and good tone and pitch, it’s just the package it’s delivered in where it falls apart.
If someone gets him to try something modern it could be ecellent.
Pffft. I think what we’re seeing is a heck of a lot more scripted than they let on, right down to the melodramatic reactions when their opponents were voted off. I was fascinated to discover this week that Taylor Hicks is not quite the enthusiastic-schmoe-off-the-street he’s being presented as, and frankly the supposed arguments and disagreements between the judges and Ryan and such just seem too conveniently perfectly timed.
If the contestants are like any of the other humans on the planet, they’re overjoyed when the others get the boot. One step closer to a million simoleons.
I both agree and disagree with you here. It was a terrible arrangement, but it’s David’s own fault. I am sure that a discussion was had during rehearsals in which David indicated that he wanted to “croon” that poor song. Which is where I think David is going to do himself in: it’s fine to have a “signature” style, and to only want to sing in that style, but when you make that initial choice, then you need to make song choices to back that up.
I was never very fond of John Stevens – I didn’t think he was even as talented as David Radford is purported to be – but I will (in retrospect) commend him for being consistent with his song choices. He was a crooner, and he picked songs he could croon, even when it was Country Nite. If David wants to croon, more power to him, but then he needs to pick the right songs for that.
That’s what separates the good from the great in this competition: being able to make good song choices to show yourself off to the greatest advantage. Bo and Carrie were both fabulous at choosing songs. Nadia Turner? Not so much, which is why she didn’t stick around as long as perhaps she should have.
I don’t understand your remark about Taylor. He was the same as he’s always been. Enthusiastic, sure, but hardly a schmoe off the street… he’s experienced, and never pretended to be otherwise.
Oddly enough, though, John Stevens did sing that song on the AI3 tour, in a duet with Fantasia, and it went over quite well.
I’m glad David is given another chance. But if he doesn’t do better next week he should probably go home.
I’m pretty satisfied. I tried to warn Patrick, but did he listen? Noooooooo.
I’m just glad we don’t have to see Patrick’s creepy inflated-lip friend in the audience anymore.
Was it just me or did Becky keep pulling away from Ryan Seacrest when he went over to her to put his arm around her after she was voted off?
Becky… Becky… Seems I’ve heard the name…
I thought Becky’s look of absolute and total shock when Stevie was told to sit down and she was told to come to the front of the stage was genuine and comical. She’s sitting and I’m standing? Noooooooooo.
I’m disappointed to see Patrick go, but not at all surprised. I don’t understand why these contestants try to do something “different” the very first week. They apparently don’t realize that we haven’t gotten to see all of their other previous performances, so we might not know how terrific they were before.
As for last night’s show: an hour is too long. One of my sims was expecting an alien baby and I really wanted to see it, so I didn’t tune in until about 7:30, when they were just announcing that Becky was eliminated. I trust I didn’t miss anything in the first half-hour.
You missed shiny happy people holding hands and singing a decidedly forgettable mutilation of a 60s/70s pop tune. Aren’t you sorry now?
