American idol 3/23 to 3/24

In case anyone wants a nickname for Casey, I submit “Pubeface.” That is one cruddy “beard” he has there.

Holy blue eyeshadow, Batman! J-Lo usually looks gorgeous, but that’s a lot of blue eyeshadow.

I am so looking forward to Scotty being forced to not do a country song this week

Casey (Pubeface) - When you’re going to take on Marvin Gaye and Gladys Knight, you better friggin’ bring your A game, and that wasn’t it. He looked like a homeless guy who had wandered onto the stage. 3/10

Thia (Dead Eyes) - Another pageant performance. She’s technically a great singer, but she moves me not one little bit. 4/10

Jacob - (I want to call him Drag Queen because he always looks like a drag queen in men’s clothing to me) - Yeah, this was his week. He actually did manage some restraint - good for him. I don’t like this guy, but that was good (except for the ending - he ended it perfectly, then he just couldn’t stop himself). 7/10

Lauren Alaina - I almost have to give her “Best Performance of the Night” for that note right at the start where she started low and brought it up and looked right at the camera and said with her eyes, “Oh, yes, I did.” That was good - lots of the right attitude for that song. 7/10

Stefano (Joey) - Oh, honey. You know that “Hello” has been done on AI as well as it has ever been done before, right? At least he didn’t do a note-for-note duplicate. The ending was lovely - the rest - I’m just not sure. 5/10

Haley - That was a’ight, dawg. Trying too hard, perhaps. 5/10

Scotty (Alfred E. Neuman) - Motown versus country. Motown wins. Everyone watching loses. God, that was uncomfortable. 3/10

Pia - (I have no nickname for her yet - she needs a nickname - Jim has suggested P. Wow  ) - And she stands at the mike in a lovely dress and sings a lovely song in a lovely way, with lots of glory notes, again. Seen this show already - what else have you got? 7/10 (points reduced for doing the same thing over and over)

Paul - I dunno; such a unique voice, but he doesn’t seem to know what to do with it. 5/10

Naima - good dancing. Too bad this is a singing competition. Jim suggested that she should have just danced it out instead of the Big Finish. Solid song, solid singing. Nothing special but the dancing. 6/10

James - That was pretty damned good - good song choice, good singing, good performance. 8/10 Best of the night.

I hope Casey goes next. I had voted for him in the past, but tonight totally changed my mind about him. He added a curse word to a song and I don’t believe he would be a good role model for our young people. I’m hoping a lot of other people feel the same.

Casey’s beard needs a serious makeover. Kiddo, your trying to become the next American Idol, not the next Rutherford B. Hayes! The song was extremely ok.

I think Thia and Stefano will be in the bottom group and Thia will most likely be gone.

Oh yeah, I realized something tonight: Scotty = Eb from Green Acres. You guys can see it too, can’t you?

Best tonight for me were Jacob, Paul and James.

If recording artists are your kid’s role models, you have bigger problems.

I thought last night was one of his weakest performances, but I truly hope he doesn’t get voted off for such a silly reason.

J Lo’s makeup was a little thick this week. I like how she played down her lips because her eyes were the focal feature, but she should have laid off the blush as well. I, of course, could not pull off all that teal eyeshadow any day of the week, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Steven needs to come up with a different adjective than “beautiful.”

Casey was steady. Good but not stellar.

Thia was good, but not great. She’s getting a little more relaxed on stage.

Jacob should get on his knees (no, not for that! Not that there’s anything wrong with that) and thank that Mafia producer guy for telling him to reign it in a little. The best singers do not need to belt it out from the first note.

Lauren - still cute as a button, but aside from the intro, she didn’t do anything different or unique with the song. Loved her dress. She lacks confidence, though.

Stefano - okay performance, but I 100% agree that neither he nor Pia connect with their songs. And I hate how he tries to make love to the camera a la Constantine. Stop that, you creep.

Pia - I see no growth. She’s gorgeous, has great pipes, but doesn’t seem to have any personality. At all.

Haley - meh.

Scotty - Did an okay job. He doesn’t have the greatest range in the world. And for a kid, he has a smarminess and confidence about him that I find unsettling.

Paul - Paul takes on Motown. Get him a job on a cruise line.

Naima - Well, she does have spunk. And she takes chances. But she’s no American Idol. Sorry, baby. <-- Or is J.Lo the only one that can get away with that?

James - The only male who has a shot at winning this thing.

My prediction: Bottom 3 - Haley, Stefano, Naima
Haley will go home, even though it should be Stefano.

Sometimes this show is just not worth staying up late for. (Yes, ten p.m. is late for me!) No one is knocking my socks off. I especially dislike Jacob, but he was less bad this week. And I guess I must be tone deaf or something since I seem to be about the only one that really likes Haley. I love that throaty growl of hers.
I did not like the eye shadow on Jennifer and Steven does appear to be bored or something. He may be a one yearer like Ellen. Unless he really needs the money. Is that hair on Randys chin new? I don’t remember that look.
Poor mom of Stefano… She looked so crushed by Gordons response to her left overs.

Cannot believe some idiot contestant chose “Hello”! That was a true ‘moment’ performance by David Cook, and should be retired from the show permanently.

James is a good singer (not my style but still). I am annoyed with myself that his & Scotty’s look turn me off to them completely.

What a Grade A asshole Ramsey was.

Totally forgot to mention the camera pan to Brad Whitford (Aerosmith guitarist) in the audience. He looked like the Crypt Keeper…

I felt bad for Stefano. Not only was he trying to use Hello as a failed means to compete on a night when everyone was bringing out A-material, but the whole time he was singing, I was thinking about this and snickering.

In the Briston household, we refer to her as “Manface”

See, Hal, no one thought about that Lionel Ritchie video when David Cook sang “Hello”

As soon as I heard Stefano was singing “Hello”, I thought “Hell NO” - you cannot take a seminal moment from another season and do anything really decent with it. I loves me some Cookie hard core and even though that was never my fave DC song, he made it his own and that’s that.

Stefano will hit the bottom 3 but won’t be kicked off.

I hate writing these words and you won’t see them from me again so pay attention: Jacob did a great job with that song. Restraint is your friend, J. Also too - buy some clothes that both fit and don’t make you look like Thurston Howell the third. Please.

Cannot - CANNOT - get past Scotty looking like dubya and while I actually like his voice, I handle it better while not looking at him because doing that makes me want to hurl things at the television.

Pia/Thia: bots with pretty voices and no personality.

I am totally entertained by Naima even when she sucks. The dancing was so different and I applaud for bringing something fresh to AI.

I’m re-naming Casey “Werewolves of London” - *Ah-oooooh! Saw him drinking a pina colada at Trader Vics. His hair was perfect. * Nice guy, but losing steam fast.

Boot goes to Haley, IMO.

I said the same thing to my husband last night!
I missed him singing a curse word though.

That’s what I heard about Carrie Underwood. She seems to have done OK.

Hi Pliny the Younger - I think we are Idol soulmates. Hell-no indeed!
and Hal Bristow, I thought you were referring to the horrible Ritchie vid for Hello not the always funny Ritchie sign on the telephone pole. oops.

I’m way past ready for Scotty to go…WRAL seems to think it’s necessary to include multiple snippets of his smarmy little performances as actual news. Last night was especially horrible; he had no range beyond country.

At some point in the show, I think it was either right before or after a commercial break, Ryan Seacrest was talking and there was a small girl by his side. I wasn’t playing close attention, she was maybe 6 or 7 years old.

I think that girl did J Lo’s makeup.

I voted several times for James. I really like him.

Paul and Naima were tolerable, but Stefano just left me cold. And I still cannot stand Growley Reinhart. She can take Stef and Casey with her.

I missed Thia’s performance.

Pia was good but needs to start changing her style and performance to break up the monotony.

Lauren was pretty good.

Scotty does everything country, and that is not going to work out.

Jacob was quite good.

No kidding. It’s cold leftovers - say they were delicious with your fingers crossed and be a nice guy.

Hmm, that could have legs. I also like Thia Bot and Pia Bot.

No way man - I’m still pulling for Pubeface!

The sideways head and sideways glances he keeps doing make my smacking hand itch.
