The Church has a magazine that publishes the steps prominent members have taken. I think it’s her because she has a “celebrity” tag. I dunno how many people named Katharine (with an “a”) McPhee (with a capital “ph”) who is a celebrity.
'Nother question: Do the Eagles count as “country”? I ask because I know that some notable country artists whose names escape me at this time once did an album of Eagles covers as a benefit for the Walden Woods Project, I think – so does that now make the Eagles fair game? Because I think some of the finalists could do a good job with their music, too.
If nothing else, it is going to be interesting to see what passed for “country” these days on “American Idol.” (Bo did that Los Lonely Boys song last year, IIRC, which is technically country but more pop, I think.)
Actually, on country night Bo did a Travis Tritt song, “It’s a Great Day to Be Alive.” I remember because that’s a good song and I expected him to do more with it. He did okay, but it was just no comparison to Tritt, IMO.
“Nothing to Lose” is fun and fast enough so his lack of singing ability doesn’t grate too badly. “Stay with Me” on the other hand must have taken tons of production to make those long slow notes sound listenable.
Yes, I believe The Eagles can be classified as Country Rock. Desperado has been covered by a lot of Country singers and is also known to be one of Simon’s all-time favorite songs. I think Elliott could knock that one out of the park.
It’d be a hoot to hear one of them sing Hotel California.
OMG, that cover would be perfect for poseur Chris! Ha! I love it!
Oh, and I meant to address this earlier and forgot. . .
Yes, but who runs that cite? Not the church itself, just someone who searches the church’s records. That person could have found the name Katharine McPhee in the church’s documents and assumed it was the same Katharine McPhee and stuck it under the “celebrity” heading even though it’s not her. I’m not saying it isn’t – just that that site doesn’t necessarily constitute proof.
No problem. I actually didn’t remember he’d sung that myself, until yesterday when I popped in a country mixed CD trying to think of what the Idols could sing next week.
Another of Travis Tritt’s songs, “Tell Me I Was Dreaming” would be a good choice for someone this week. Not sure who, though. I actually think Taylor might be able to pull it off. I also wouldn’t mind hearing some Sawyer Brown. I don’t think I’ve ever heard one of their songs on Idol before. But as usual, someone will sing Garth’s “Ain’t Goin’ Down 'Til the Sun Comes Up,” and Simon will say he “doesn’t get it.”
OK, what was with Shakira’s performance Wednesday night? I’ve watched it twice now, & there’s something odd about the whole thing (no, not the belly dancing, she always does that). At times I thought she & Wyclef were clearly lip-synching, but then again, I’m not sure.
For those unfamiliar with Señorita Mebarak, it was definitely a poor introduction to the writer of “¿Dónde están los ladrones?” & “Poem to a Horse.”
