American Idol 3/28, Songs of the 21st Century

You are also correct!

What has 8 legs 7 arms and sucks?
Def Leppard.

Oh, and I love Lisa Lisa. Although I do have a problem with Full Force seeing as how I remember one of them getting arrested for beating his wife with a bed poster.

With the category being what it is, I fear the door is wide open for Chris to sing Creed. I know it has to happen sometime. I’ve been dreading it all season. I just hope “Arms Wide Open” came out before 2000.

That’s a good one, Biggirl, and I don’t even think it’s that offensive. But that’s just me. I’m still going to hell.

Dio, I’m also afraid that we’ll hear Creed tonight. If Chris does sing Creed, he just may lose me. I’m pretty sure “Arms Wide Open” came out in 2000 or 2001.

Def Leppard has nine arms and ten legs. They still suck, though.

Understandable. The “Bill & Ted” line we were thinking of was when George Carlin says, “Be excellent to each other, and party on.”

Ugh, Creed. Why’d y’all have to make me think of them? And while we’re on the subject of unsavory things … Scott Stapp? In a sex tape? With Kid Rock? “Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww” does not even begin to cut it.

Great, you guys. Now I have to go wash my brain out with bleach and Drano.

I know mine is not a popular opinion, but I don’t WANT Ace to leave. Yes, he has very little talent, yes, he is probably the worst of what’s left.

But DAMN ! He’s purdy!

I actually like Bucky, too, I like his Southern Rock style. My hopes (which I know ain’t gona happen) are that the Pickler is outta here. Her stupidity grates on my nerves. Her or Lisa.

Just let me look at Ace a little bit longer…

Hey, I thought it was going to be a joke about deafness, not missing limbs! I am offended!

Agreed. That’s way more offensive than one-armed drummer jokes.

Some online sources are telling me that Creed’s “With Arms Wide Open” was on a 1999 album. Of course, Chris could pick a different Creed song.

Lisa seems to have enough of a fan base to keep her afloat. As in the elimination prediction thread, my money’s on Bucky this week.

Hmm. According to Rolling Stone, the album Human Clay was released in 1999 … but, unfortunately, “With Arms Wide Open” was released as a single in 2000. So I guess it’s a crap shoot with this one. HOWEVER. Even Jesus hates Creed, and hopefully Chris does, too.

2000 still isn’t the 21st Century. And of course I expect American Idol to get that right!

As for Creed, don’t know 'em, but I’ll take your word for it that we don’t want to hear them. On the other hand, I don’t see Chris picking anything better. Who cares who what late grunge band he picks? It’s all the same to me.

If anyone does Wilco, they’ll be my new fave.

Ha ha … are you new? (No, really, I keed. ) As much as I hate to give TPTB even more power over my sorry-ass life than it already has, they have been known in the past to bend the rules a wee bit. I know, right? Like … let’s flash back to last year: at the end of one episode, Ryan announces that the next week’s theme would be “Disco Night.” So everyone in America who watches “AI” scratches his or her head and goes, “[Scooby Doo noise]?” Because it sounds like Bo is totally hosed, you know? But when the episode airs, Ryan says that the theme is really “Dance Music of the 70’s.” And Bo sings “Vehicle,” and it’s so farkin’ awesome that nobody realizes for a week that “Vehicle” is not exactly “Dance Music of the 70’s.” Poor Carrie had to sing “MacArthur Park,” although I only feel a little bit sorry for her, because she admitted that she picked the song herself.

Point being … I would not be surprised if “the 21st century” is “redefined” to include songs from 1995 or later – and possibly even songs that were recorded prior to then that some “current” artist maybe possibly reportedly thought about covering, once. Like, “My Prerogative” or something (which appeared on Britney Spears’ 2004 greatest so-called hits record).

They could also hide behind versions of songs which appear on live albums (like if a band recorded a song in 1998 but it appears on a live album they recorded in 2002 then AI might qualify it).

They’ll probably also allow “21st Century” covers of practically anything (like Uncle Kracker’s version of “Drift Away,” for instance).

I was being ironic, rockle. I would be stunned if they knew or cared when the 21st Century really started.

I hope Elliot sings Usher. Not because I’m a big Usher fan, but because I can see Elliot doing Usher and doing well with it. Usher’s sort of a hip-hop era Stevie Wonder.

I hear Kellie is going to precede her song by explaining the theory of relativity using handpuppets. But those spoiler threads on TWoP are often wrong.

I hate to admit it, but I kind of agree. There are people still in the competition who are arguably more talented, but less likeable and who can’t (I hope) win anyway - namely Kellie (irrational hate), Lisa (yawn) and Bucky (meh). Then again, if Ace really biffs it and I cringe all the way through his performance, I won’t be too sorry to see him go. Sigh.

Except that Stevie Wonder is a legendary genius and Usher is a completely useless human being.
IMO.

She’s good, but something in her voice is lacking…

Lisa’s doing great.

That’s the most impassioned I’ve ever seen Lisa.
