Ooh! This might be a nice validation for those of us who’ve been saying he’s not the most trustworthy and honorable young man, eh?
In Season 2, Corey Clark was disqualified and his offense was failure to disclose pending battery charges. The charges were battery against his 15 yo sister, resisting arrest and criminal restraint. IANAL, but from what I remember, his parents and sister were all over any TV show that’d listen talking about it being a misunderstanding and a total non-issue. I think the spin was that he was the big brother in charge, li’l sis was up to no good, he pulled rank and stopped her, it got loud and was in the front yard, neighbors called the cops. It’s not hard to see how he could have been all testosteroned up and resenting the inference that he was whaling on his kid sister, leading to the resisting and restraint charges.
Idol didn’t care, however, and dropped him. They didn’t bother redoing the entire schedule, just didn’t send anyone home that week.
Now, Idol could choose to keep Scott, although most anyone would agree roughing up your babymama trumps keeping your baby sister from getting into trouble, but Corey’s charges were current, Scott’s issues are past news, eh?
Yep, that makes sense. Idol’s official statement about Corey wasn’t “We don’t want a criminal” but “failure to disclose” after all. Can look like a double standard, but isn’t, if all Idol wants is the ability to make their choices prior to stuff leaking.
Trenyce was busted for forging checks but admitted it, Frenchie was DQed for working on a GirlsGoneWildesque site and not admitting it.
Hey, lezlers, this is the best post to this thread yet! You’re spot on. Nikko has a very good voice. He just likes (imo) horrid R&B. He was good this week, though the sound guys had him too quiet at the beginning of the song.
Thanks for the info on Simon. No great shock, really, he’s British. The UK has had incredibly awful pop charts since the '80’s at least. (I don’t know before then.)
OK, let’s see how this week felt to me:
Bo is very showy, very professional, but if it’s all like this, I may defect to Constantine. Still, a 9.5 performance.
Jessica wasn’t perfect, but this was about 9 out of ten. 8.8, maybe.
Randy’s pinpointed for me what Anwar is doing wrong, & it’s not just this week. I was happy to let Anwar go back to teaching kids, but now I feel sorry for his students, if he teaches them to be sloppy about all but the big notes. I called it 8.1 out of ten, which is a low score at this stage. (I’m like a figure-skating judge, see?) On second thought, it’s probably really a 7; still, he has some idea what he’s doing, & a pretty voice.
Nadia did alright. She’s not the big-note girl, but it’s not all about that. Still my crush object, which means I’m not so objective. In the 8’s.
Constantine did well. I think I’m liking him better than Bo. 9.0.
Nikko deserves to be in this a while longer. He’s not my personal favorite anymore (I like neither Sisqo nor The Jackson Five so much), but I’m not holding that against him. Um, in the 8’s, I guess.
Anthony is out of his league now. Charismatic amateur, whatever. Should have kept the glasses. High 7’s.
Carrie is still the giant voice doing songs I don’t care for. Whatever, she’s solid. Next!
Scott was like nails on a chalkboard. 6.0? 4.9?
Vonzell was good. Don’t remember what I rated her, but…
I had my bottom 3. Anthony the power amateur, Anwar the sloppy, Scott the squeak. This seemed like Anwar’s week to go. Would have been Anthony’s, but his fans would give him a bump after the bottom-3 scare last week. But I had a grudge against Scott (the Affirmative Action fat&ugly candidate who’s not as good as people’s sympathy wants to pretend) since he got in over the much superior Nikko.
I don’t try to stuff the boxes, but I told myself when it got to this pointenough more guys than girls left that girls are saferI would vote 5 times for every guy but Scott. Then again, I don’t want to vote for Anthony or Anwar either this week. So, 5 votes for Anthony & Anwar, ten for everybody else, making Scott “negative 5.” Yeah, it’s a drop in the bucket. But that’s what I did.
So Wednesday rolls around, & there’s Nadia & Jessica in the bottom three. OK, at least Nadia’s 3rd from bottom, that’s upward motion. But in the bottom 3 two weeks in a row? And Jessica?!! Oh, no, the teenies are dissing the “stocky girl,” & hate the flirty older woman! So much for a singing competition!
OK, so now I’m mad. Looks like a tipping point to me. I actually sort of expect Nadia to be voted off next week, & then it’d be all about the guys. If token females Carrie & Vonzell aren’t enough to keep the male audience watching, it could just turn all-testosterone real fast. So I already know I’m going to be voting a lot for Nadia & Vonzell just to play handicap. 'Cos the girls deserve better.
Scott & Anthony just don’t belong in here if Jessica’s gone. wondering where Suzy Vulaca is now,
And, of course, what looked like an opening, which was Scott sucking mightily & with a mighty sucking sound.
Oh, well, it’s down to whichever boy has the greatest constituency of teenies for whom he’s the favorite. Well, maybe with Carrie & Vonzell as the female-for-male equivalents. But is it going to be about music? Maybe not until the bottom 3 or so, when most faves (& hates!) are out. Then it’ll switch back.
Nah, Vonzell’s the female R&B singer, the female Nikko. Scott’s the big fat mutant baby. Nadia is more Tina Turner than Vonzell’s Whitney Houston, & she’s almost the female Constantine.
And she’s older, which may be her downfall. Pity. I like her.
Yes, I’ve reconsidered since I posted that. At the outset, it looked like Nadia was the diva and Vonzell was the also-ran. That seems to have reversed.
Why compare to Nadia to Vonzell? in terms of song choice and vocal/performance style, Vonzell is most similar to Nikko (only better), and Nadia is most similar to Bo (only not as good). As far as I can see, Vonzell has one thing in common with Nadia, and it’s being given exaggerated importance.
I’ll admit that I’m biased toward Nadia. From the first minute I saw her in those hideous, never-ending auditions, she just jumped through the screen to me. She is Different and in a contest like AI, that’s important.
While I have nothing against Vonzell, to me she is a Whitney Wannabee. There is nothing about her that sets her apart and gives her her own persona. In AI-World, that’s a negative.
Re: Scott. I grew up in a Cleveland suburb that was just one suburb removed from Shaker Heights. When I lived there, Shaker was the home of Extreme Prepdom. Scott Savol just doesn’t fit that picture. What happened?
The story will kill Scott even if he does stay on the show. I imagine people won’t want to vote for him so much, now.
Rumors from TWoP is that next week’s theme is Coast to Coast, which is taken to mean songs with cities and states in the title or lyrics and maybe road songs thrown in for good measure.
Ooooh, Scott had tripled his creepy points. Go Scott! And here I was worried that the AI scrubbers had prettied him up too much.
Kelly Clarkson is R&B? I didn’t watch AI the first season, so I don’t know how she came off during the competition, but what she’s released since certainly isn’t R&B.
I think Vonzell is just herself. First she was accused of being a Beyonce wannabe and now a Whitney wannabe. Being black, pretty and a very good singer makes you copycat, apparently.
Nikko can’t sing. He’s pulling a fast one on all of you. He’s playing fast and loose with the notes and doing some creative notesliding. Just like Al B Sure! And I know every song he’s sung and it ain’t right.
If this rumor is true, then I give the producers over there +5 points for coming up with a new theme, and -500 points for coming up with a new theme that is so lame there aren’t even words for it. Because I can already guess what Bo is going to be singing, and it rhymes with “Beet Bome Balabama.”
That theme would work out pretty well for several of the contestants in addition to Bo.
Carrie - Oklahoma
Constantine - New York New York
Nikko - Route 66
