American Idol 4/13-14

They seem like nice kids, but the result was justified.

The only two that I’d be a bit surprised at going home would be Crystal and Casey, and even those two would be kind of, “meh” for me. I know we always say the current year is weak, but this year really does seem weak, or people just aren’t getting it, or something just isn’t gelling.

Well, I got half of my wish.
Are people voting for Tim’s hair?

From here on out, the eliminations get a lot more interesting.

We’ve got left:

Casey
Crystal
Big Mike
Lee
Tim
Aaron
Siobhan

Now, the two obvious red shirts in that group are Tim and Aaron, but both seem to have constituencies keeping them alive - In Tim’s case, Vote for the Worst and teenage girls. In Aaron’s case, tweens. If their constituencies can keep them alive for another week or two, we’ll see some real upsets. Which to me would be hilarious, so long as it’s not Crystal or Casey.

I’m betting Big Mike goes home next week. Oh, wait… the theme is ‘inspirational songs’. This is Big Mike’s wheelhouse. He’ll probably come out and emote his face off, crying and weeping and pleading for his woman or his grandma or something. So that might keep him alive for another week.

Tim’s got the most reason to sing an inspirational song - his mere existence at this stage of the show is an inspiration to bad karaoke singers across the land. He should probably sing “I will Survive” with a big sh*t eating grin on his face, which would add a righteous air of mockery to the proceedings. I’d vote for that.

Aaron’s probably the most likely to crash and burn. He’s so bland that anything inspirational he sings is likely to sound twee, or just plain awful. But those tweens… They have fingers of steel, and they have nothing to do but use them to vote over, and over, and over again…

Casey and Crystal should do fine, so long as the real setlist for ‘inspirational songs’ isn’t too restrictive. There’s lots of inspirational blues and rock songs. I’d give ten bucks to see Casey wail out “I’m a Man” by Muddy Waters, with the rest of the idols shouting “YEAH!” after every phrase.

So I’m thinking this could be week Siobhan is eliminated in a “shocking upset”. I think the judges have her head spinning a bit, and she showed a rather angry side to her last night, which won’t play well with the audience. Unless she turns in a great performance, this could be the end. She launched herself halfway over the shark tank this week already.

Inspirational songs, eh? This could be very, very sucky, full of shallow, insipid songs, and people choosing the wrong songs for themselves based on, “It meant so much to me.”

It always sucks during that week. “Inspirational” means “treacly glurgey” songs to me.

Yeah, Idol Gives Head is one of the worst things they’ve ever done. I NEVER watch the results show except to see who got booted. I don’t watch this shit to get depressed, although this season has been doing it more often than not.

I’m finally watching the elimination show. Did anyone notice Ryan Seacrest’s slip after Andrew’s elimination? He said, “After the break, one of the contestants will see her dream end.”

There were still 3 men sitting on the bench waiting the news. Oops.

That guest star singing with Brooke White looks way too old to have dated Miley Cyrus. Anyone know how old he is?

According to iTunes, this is the song list they can choose from next week.

So yeah, mostly unmitigated crap. I don’t know all the songs, but I’m not seeing any obvious choices for Crystal or Casey. If Lee does “Hero,” he’s dead to me…and you know he will. You know he will.

Crystal - People Get Ready
Casey - It’s My Life or Living on a Prayer
Siobhan - You Light Up My Life (room for lots of screeching in there)
Aaron - My Heart Will Go On (because he just can’t help himself)
TUrban - Dream Weaver (cause, why not?)
Big Mike - Greatest Love of All
Lee - Walking on Sunshine

Someone is going to do “I Can See Clearly Now.” Everybody who has ever made an album has covered that song, so no reason the Idol wannabes won’t.

Ugh. I’m skipping next week. What a horrid list.

Wait. My Best Friend? The Jefferson Airplane song, or some newfangled piece of poptacular styrofoam melisma shit? If it’s the Airplane song, one will sing it, but, um, …far out.

My Best Friend is the Queen one.

:smack:

Everyone’s complaining about treacly glurgy songs coming up for Inspirational week. I remember Season 7 had a few that weren’t so cliche. Esp David Cook doing Our Lady Peace’s “Innocent”. He wasn’t so great live, but his studio recording of it is absolutely fantastic. Apparently the contestants weren’t so limited in choices that year.

Ooh, I’ll bet Crystal could do a killer performance of “People Get Ready”.

I’d like to see Casey take a crack at “Dream Weaver”. He’s got a bit of that Gary Wright kind of voice.

I think the Bon Jovi songs are right in Casey’s wheelhouse, but he’s shown some surprisingly lame taste in the past.

I’d look for Siobahn to do Queen.

I’m guessing Crystal will do the Jewel song.

I just checked. Sounded like “their” to me.

What I’d like to see:

Big Mike- “Living in America” (extra points for coming out in an Apollo Creed Bi-Centennial outfit)

Casey should mix it up a bit and do a slower, bluesy version of “Livin’ On a Prayer”

Crystal- “Holding Out for a Hero” (Bonnie Tyler is right in her wheelhouse)

Lee: “I’ll Stand By You”

Siobhan: “You’re My Best Friend”

I’m not really interested enough in TUrban or Aaron to choose…

I don’t think so, but if he did I didn’t notice. However, I called it as soon as he got to Katie as he was going down the line. Something in the way he looked at her, I turned to my boyfriend and said “Yep, she’s going home.”

Not sure if anyone has answered this yet, but I believe they were dating when she was 16 and he was 20. But they weren’t “doing anything.” Yeah, right.

I just took a re-listen to the Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart version of “People Get Ready,” and I think I’m going to change my prediction to Crystal doing Jewel and Casey doing “People Get Ready” - lot’s of wailing guitar in that version.
