American Idol 4/21 to 4/22

Jordin has dropped off the face of the earth?

The girl who just won a Grammy and whose song “No Air” was on my radio last year every time I turned on my stupid radio? Has dropped off the face of the earth?

Okay. I stand corrected. She’s dropped off the face of the part of the earth I’m paying any attention to. And considering my advanced age, my lack of awareness of her is understandable.

I almost always agree with Simon. If a singer barfed on the stage ,Paula would reward his ability to make even sized chunks. He would be an artiste.
Adam is the best ,but I would not listen to his music. It would bore me after a while. The rest are just middle of the road singers.

Today I realized what Kris’s singing face reminds me of.
I’m bitter for the way Danny absolutely drained all the fun out of that EW&F song.
I also agree that Adam felt more indulgent than Allison. He does have huge stage presence though which helps with that. At times it feels like he could be tying his shoes, brush his teeth and comb his hair and then screech a bit and everybody would be in complete awe. Then again, it might be that he is making it seem effortless, which in itself is a skill.
My last point: why must at least one judge every week mention that they don’t care about Allison’s age? If you didn’t care, you wouldn’t bring it up so often.

I’m not an American Idol devotee. I like Simon, but I’ve never had an urge to follow it. Reality/competition shows don’t show up on my radar at best and annoy me at worst. I’ve seen maybe three episodes ever since the show actually started, but otherwise what I know about the show I’ve learned through osmosis when I can’t escape it.

Buuuut my mother is a big fan of competition shows, so I usually end up watching AI or Top Chef or something with her when I’m visiting. So I was watching AI last week when Adam did “Born to be Wild.” I think we rewound the DVR twice so I could watch the performance again, and I immediately sought out his previous performances online.

He is screechy. He has a bad habit of trying to shatter glass at certain points, even in relatively gentle songs. But there are professional musicians making millions who have less stage presence than he does. I was instantly, utterly captivated. He knows how to play to the camera (I’ve never seen a contestant in the few episodes I’ve seen actually acknowledge there was a camera, but he looks right at his viewers), he sings extremely well, but most of all I love him for his song choices. I don’t care for most of the pop or love songs AI contestants elect to sing, but Born to be Wild? Mad World? I love him just for those, and that he pulls them off so well.

I think Adam’s songs are not the huge hits most people think, but he’s got the star charisma by the bucketload, and I’m very curious to see what he makes of his performing career. Plus, and I almost hate to say this, he always appears to be a nice boy when they interview him - between him and Danny Gokey, I’d hang out with Adam long before I’d hang out with Gokey (you know, when they visit Calgary and need a place to stay). Now we’ll find out in two years about his granny-kicking habit.

Lastnight was the first time I didn’t get a “playing the role of a singer” vibe from Adam. And I’m kind of missing the Bratz Boy hair.

I understand. If we didn’t have a college student in the family, I wouldn’t know anything about current music.

I watched the show to be socialable with my daughter last night, so I read through this thread.
I’m still not feeling any love for this year’s contestants - and that includes Adam. I’ll grant he’s talented. But his music is just not my thing, and all the over the top praise just turns me off. So I’ll keep saying that David Cook is the best thing to come out of this show.

I’ll second that (with a “so far” attached). I have exactly one album by any alumni of AI, and it’s David Cook’s album. It’s hard to say how much of it is David Cook’s artistic vision and how much is what he was allowed to do by the AI marketing machine.

I’ll chime in here. In fact, Bar-Ba-Sol is playing on the ipod right now. I still have Billie Jean, Hello, Little Sparrow, and The World I Know on the current playlist. So far, I haven’t felt much of a need to go and buy anything from this year’s crowd. I love watching Adam - I find him electrifying on stage - but I don’t much feel like buying any of his performances. I think I’m more likely to pick up one of Allison’s or Kris’s.

Now, why hasn’t Bar-Ba-Sol gotten any airplay yet? I’m pretty sure it was released as a single to rock radio, but I haven’t heard it or seen it on the charts. :frowning: I know, AI winners have no rock cred, but then again, neither does Nickleback, and I hear plenty of them.

heh. Constantine. But Adam doesn’t make you feel dirty.

Ruben is currently touring with a production of Aint Misbehavin. Playing the midwest right now. At least he has a bigger part than Taylor.

I just heard that Fantasia is getting a reality show on VH1 next year. I hope I heard wrong.

And Lil is out.

That was the worst opening sing ever; they’re not even attempting to hide the fact that they’re lip-syncing. Ugh.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

How long has this woman been dead???

What the hell is it with these people? Why can’t any of them retire?

Lil didn’t sing any better as the season progressed but I will say she looked progressively more attractive and looked great tonight. Still, glad she’s gone.

These old disco stars suck! I’m embarrassed for them. That’s gonna be painful for them to watch unless their ego’s are bloated enough to cope.

I loved this song when it came out 40 years ago!

I will be sad no matter which one of the 2 goes tonight. boo
There was noise in the room, what did Simon and Ryan bicker about there?
