American Idol 4/26

Votefortheworst.com

Theory 1: Simon telling Scott to pack his bags mobilized Scott fans to powervote.

Theory 2: Those folks at votefortheworst.com are more plentiful than we thought and way more serious than those that watch and don’t vote.

Theory 3: Jerry Springer’s fans were bored?

Smirky McSmarmovitch will be missed, he was hugely entertaining to watch.

Good Egg yes, this has happened every year. There are clear favorites that get cut before other, arguably worse contestants and it’s maddening. Seacrest always hollers for folks to vote, Paula and Randy will exhort us to vote when it’s one of their personal favorites that get’s voted off.
The folks at Votefortheworst claim their huge group voting power kept John Stevens on Season 3 far longer than he should have been, which might be true and certainly explains a lot, but there was the same general outrage in seasons 1 and 2 before those Votefortheworst folks got into it, so meh.

My 12 year old son agrees, he’s been saying the same thing since the beginning of the season.

Not that he watches this lame girly show, of course. No self-respecting boy at his junior-high would ever admit to something like that.

He did grow on you; now he’s been removed. I bet its a frenzy over at the Idol message board.
As to the whiteguy theory, nah, thats just too easy. Winners don’t always cover each category. Though I can predict it will not be a black guy this year.

sigh I know. That’s the shame of it, isn’t it?

I blame it on Bo.

My 17 daughter said the exact same thing! I even said it in one of the earlier theads. She picked Bo because it was a white guys turn.

Scott should have been gone long, long ago.

Curses!

I have tried many, many times to cast votes but it’s busy busy busy every time I try.

Sigh.

I am disgusted! Come on! If he won, God forbid, who would buy Scott’s album. Next year - 1 vote allowed per phone or I’m not watching!

Has anyone checked to see is Paula has passed out yet?

I’ve heard people say this before but I don’t see how it could work. Take my house for instance; four people, four different opinions…one phone.

So many contestants would miss out on votes if they went to that system.

I had a meeting tonight so I missed the show. I have already gathered that Vonzell and Connie were bottom 2 and that Connie is gone, but who else was in the bottom three?

Add me to the list that is annoyed that Scott is still on.

The Last Comic Standing show allowed three votes per phone. I was able to vote only 3 times because I also used my cell-phone. They could do something like this but to be fair they’d have to stop or limit the text message vote and since that helps their sponsor that’s not going to happen.

As somebody who watches every episode of the show, but never votes, and certainly never considers buying any of these albums, I say this is entertaining TV. I can get wrapped up in the emotion as well as anybody (Only Mostly Missus sank to her knees thanking Og that Constantcheese was voted off), but really, I can always take a step back and realize these results don’t affect me at all. I wouldn’t buy the winner’s album no matter who wins. Judging by the numbers posted here, I’m certainly in the same boat as many other viewers every week. I’m curious how many of the other frequent posters in the thread have watched every show (whether just this season or all along) but never bought an album of any of the contestants?

P.S. - …Though I have considered buying William Hung’s Inspiration for the sheer awfulness, to put it next to another brilliant William’s Has Been album.

P.P.S. - Kelly Clarkson’s “Breakaway” is a guilty pleasure in my car. Still not nearly enough to buy an album. Or even the single track from iTunes.

But it really doesn’t matter whether people buy the winner’s album as Fox is making a boatload of money off of sponsors.

LOL - now there’s a good site to remember in case the SDMB ever goes down and we need an alternative…

I wonder how many people they have in their little movement.

Vonzell, Constantine. . . and AFed.

My conclusion - the people who vote on this show are much less concerned with appearance than Hollywood thinks they are. Scott’s life story was the most compelling, so he got the sympathy vote.

Number one reason he’s still on the show - folks adore tenors. The higher the better.

Is it just me, or did the group sing tonight sound particularily bad. These people should not sing together. Their voices just don’t mesh.

It wasn’t just you. I thought the group sing was HORRIBLE.

As a person who absolutely adores tenors – no. Just, no. He is a horrible, terrible ick, and no amount of “talent” can make me get over his creepy vibe. I do NOT want an Idol who can – and probably would – kick my ass. None of this makes any damn sense. I fear that some people (but I am not sure who) are playing a wretched practical joke on the world.

And for the record, I was not a fan of Clay or of John Stevens, either, but I could at least understand why some people voted for them. I don’t know a single person who actually votes for Scott Savol. No explanation short of a massive surge in LSD levels in municipal water can explain the appeal of Scott Savol. Either that, or fluoride. This is why I drink bottled.

I don’t think so. Bo sang a song by Gavin DeGraw which I believe is a current Top 40 song. Constantine sang a song by Nickelback which, IIRC, went to Number One a while back (late 2002, maybe?). Carrie sang a Martina McBride song, which even I recognized, and I abhor country music of any sort (except for Jimmy Buffett, but only his solo stuff). I had never heard either Scott’s or A-Fed’s songs before. Admittedly, I generally listen to “rock” or “classic rock,” so I shouldn’t know approximately 4 out of the 5 songs sung last night. I wish that were part of the explanation, but I don’t think it is.

(And it was Nadia who sang the Crystal Gayle song – Vonzell sang a song from the “Footloose” soundtrack.)
