cricetus my college roommate was from Shaker Heights! My Hubby went to Case for his freshman year, so I’m familiar w/Cleveland. Lots of cool people in Shaker Heights. But looking at Scott’s parents, I saw low-rent. Granted I couldn’t really hear them, my twins were having a screeching match, so my judgement might not be fair. Constantine has the confidence of a middle-class upbringing, and some of us may slightly resent that. Or maybe it’s just b/c he sang like a girlyman.
woodstockbirdybird you’re so right. I keep thinking that a good night on Showtime at the Apollo would beat the hell out of most AI episodes.
I’m on the boat for changing the voting on AI to “vote for the contestant you want *off * the show”, rather than “vote for the contestants you want to keep.”
That petition reads like it was written by Bj0rn. I especially like the line “There is a possibility that calculations in tabulations may occur - as well as phone errors.” Um, okay. And that was written by someone NOT voting for Scott.
I have to say that I think voting to eliminate contestants would be a disaster. The most interesting contestants are polarizing; you either love them or hate them. All of the interesting contestants would be voted off. Therefore, we would have no Fantasia, no Ruben, no Clay. Instead, the most boring contestants would remain (remember Big Brother?)
With regard to Scott:
I must say first that I have hated him since Hollywood, when he dissed his group. However, he does have a beautiful tone to his voice, and when he is on, he has a nice falsetto. More important, however, is that not everybody is on the internet or aware of his prior legal troubles. The backstory they see is the underpriviledged guy, not particularly attractive or charismatic, who was told by his father he would never amount to anything, who is nevertheless blessed with a beautiful voice. Everybody tells him he can’t be a star because of his looks, but the audience can make him a star and show those judges that an ordinary guy can prevail. I think Simon’s comments were just the thing to mobilize those voting for Scott because he is an underdog. In addition, the constant thanking God when he is safe appeals to a segment of the population. A few flat notes just make people feel sorry for him. Remember, for many voters, this show is about voting for people that otherwise wouldn’t have a chance in the business (Kelly, Clay, Ruben), so I can certainly see why people voted for Scott.
That “Smoking Gun” article doesn’t mention whether FOX or the AI producers were aware of any of this going in, but it’s early days yet.
The problem with Scott, as I see it, is that he’s willing to sell his soul to Satan to stay on the show, but none of us has come forward with a similar offer to get him off it.
Please leave your political and religious ranting out of this otherwise harmless thread. It’s not like we’re not already over-exposed to your opinions.
I see your point perfectly Lib. America voted for Scott and he’s creepy and they voted for Republicans, so America, unlike this here messageboard, likes to vote for creeps! It all makes perfect sense!
One man’s creepy is another man’s cool. That 80,000 all-time-hits website is not the reason Scott is getting tens of millions of votes. Clearly, if 90% of us don’t like him and cannot understand why he is still there, and yet he is still there, then there is a disconnect between us and the majority of people voting. That’s all I’m saying.
I heard on a radio news brief this afternoon that Paula had been axed from Idol, most likely due to information that came out of the ABC investigative report on AI. I haven’t seen any stories online, however.
Well, I had to sleep on it. The things I would have posted last night might have gotten the FBI to knock on my door.
Early in the results show, during the group sing, it hit me that Scott was going to be safe. This week was so dull & dispiriting for the rest of us (you know, normal people with ears) that the numbers couldn’t keep up with the Savol coalition:[ul][li]Housebond elderly folks who are too hard of hearing to register Scott’s sour notes (which are the sourest sour notes ever, yet curiously like things that come out of my 90-year-old grandfather’s mouth).[]The constituency of sheer perversity, who feel like AI is daring them to vote for a schmucko.[]The proletarian angst vote, who are voting as a form of rooting for an underdog.[]The fat lobby.[]Those who are so mad that their favorites are already gone that they’re voting for Scott in a depraved quest for revenge.[/ul][/li]
I didn’t really power vote Tuesday night, & I only voted 3 times for Connie, while I voted more than that for Bo, Vonzell, & (oddly enough) Carrie. I figured Maroulis was safe.
But with Constantine gone, I suddenly (& unexpectedly) don’t think I even want to watch the show. It’s just boring now. Nikko’s gone, Nadia’s gone, Carrie should have gone instead of Jessica, & now it looks like Bo may win almost by default.
Or Scott, now over the hump & riding the pathological anger vote, could take the whole thing.
