I think his performances of songs like ‘Imagine’ and ‘Long and Winding Road’ will win him the competition.
Thanks.
I thought the two one handed cartwheels was kinda rubbin’ Anne’s nose in it.
Was the dancing in the group numbers always this bad? I can’t remember.
The dancers were contestants from another reality show.
I don’t think that’s the dancing she meant.
Ok, my take… uh… I fastforwarded through a lot. I also didn’t recognize the skank singing with Heart and wondered who she was. I was also disturbed by how much they were sexing up the 15 year old I’d never heard of, but her singing was so boring I FF’d it.
Who knew that the first lady of California was Skeletor?!
Some of the vignettes were overwrought and glurgy but some were genuinely touching.
Now I know why this week sucked for the contestants: They didn’t have enough time to rehearse their competition pieces because they had to learn these group abominations with their accompanying painful middle-school-pageant moves. gag I couldn’t watch more than about 30 seconds of any of them. And how much did it look like they were hating life for every horrible moment of those songs?! I did like the opening number, but mainly because it was cool to see the SYTYCD folks again.
I liked Annie Lennox.
I thought Mariah Carey was the most boring thing I’ve ever heard and skipped a lot of it. Yuck. How did she get to be so famous?!
I thought Robin Williams was embarrassing.
I liked the quick on-the-spot thinking of the lady who fixed Brad Pitt’s mic. Heh. That was a cute line (“I just needed an excuse to touch him!”)
Damn. That was the biggest waste of two hours and talented performers ever made in Hollywood without George Lucas being attached. At least some starving kids (or whatever it was for) will get some money, but otherwise thank God for fast-forward. I kept hoping Kanye West would come out and say “George Bush still hates black people!” just so there’d be something remotely memorable to talk about. (I didn’t notice David Archie messing up on lyrics, though- what did he do?)
I agree about Robin Williams being embarrassing. As overplayed as he is, at his best he was- possibly still is- a comic genius, and he’s doing Russian name puns (not just the Ibin Jakinov but the Lennon=Lenin thing)!? Did they let Sanjaya and Seacrest write his material? Totally forgettable evening.
Mariah Carey was on? Wow, I guess I really tuned it out better than I thought I had. It was not exactly the most exciting TV ever. In fact, I think “excruciating” would be the most appropriate word.
The only thing I liked was the sound lady, too. Hee!
I only caught the Mariah Carey part because I had the TiVo set to record the 10pm news right after AI. My TiVo cut AI off before her part, but it was on the first part of the news recording. I guess AI ran a little over.
Hello? Anyone? Anyone?
[…shrug…]
Anyway, on a last minute whim, we decided to watch this and skip Wife Swap. And we actually really did enjoy it.
Dude, I’m winning that thing?
Yes. You and Blue Mood.

(Thanks, by the way, to the people diligently keeping up with it. I’m ashamed to say that I can’t remember who you are. Give us a howdy if you drop by.)
I watched the first hour and a half last night before something else came on that we wanted to watch. The best part, by far, was Snoop Dogg. I loves me some Snoop. Annie Lennox was good, too. Miley Cyrus and Fergie should definitely be in the bottom three this week. And what was up with Teri Hatcher singing that Carrie Underwood song? It started out OK, but got really bad toward the middle. I was expecting Carrie to come on-stage at some point and take over before it got too painful, but unfortunately that did not happen. I can’t say that I’m sad to have missed Mariah Carey.
Hey, I’ve got it in my links toolbar and check every Thursday! I’m so jazzed to be tied for third I can’t tell you, and I’m sure it won’t last so I’d better enjoy it now. If Michael Johns actually leaves this week, I’m still in good standing, but Kristy’s longevity is gonna kill me.
…and now back to our regularly scheduled programming…
True, but I think he needs to hang on a little longer. Of course he could be the first 8th-place-finisher to make a name for himself but as the show goes on the ratings increase, and the farther he makes it the more argument can be made that he has a really solid fan base. Also he would pretty much have to really tank a couple of weeks in a row (including this week) in order to get voted off, and that would sour his reputation enough to cut into his marketability (or you can imagine some “suit” saying so). You want him to go out on a high note - like Chris Daughtry’s shocking elimination! when it clearly should have been McPhee that week.
Part of me doesn’t want David Cook to make the final two because I hate the finale songs they always make them sing. But I would certainly miss him if he went home too early.
Am I the only one who noticed that as time goes on that Robin Williams and Bono seem to look more and more alike? It’s scary.
I liked Fergie’s little thing with Heart, but I really have to give it up for doing two cartwheels in a row wearing what appeared to be latex fetish pants. That *can’t * be easy.
I really enjoyed last year’s Idol Gives Back, and was kinda looking forward to this one. Sorely disappointed. More glurgey videos, less entertainment…and every performance was dark and depressing (with the exception of Heart & Fergie, who can *really *belt, I’m surprised to hear).
Did Bono show up at some point? I didn’t feel like watching the show, but I’m curious.
Dude, Bono is everywhere. You just have to look harder. He’s like Waldo.
I kind of liked the Band from Television as a novelty item but I missed everything up until Terry Hatcher walked onstage to karaoke that song. Was the entire band made up of actors? I thought I saw someone from Desparate Housewives, House and some other familiar looking people.
He was with an African woman who is a caregiver for numerous orphans, and pleaded for help on her behalf.
Hal Briston, set up the rules and the thread (give it a bump!), and I put together the scoring spreadsheet (easy to do with the simple scoring system we’re using). It’s good to hear others appreciate it. I update it as soon as I know the result, but being on the west coast, it’s probably past a lot of bed times.
I rarely comment in the weekly thread because I mostly have no clue about how well the singers do. They all sound about the same to me. :smack:
