American Idol 5/10

I’m kinda sick and all medicine-heady, so no searching from me, but didn’t we have a ‘same song different contestants’ in another season?

Did no one but me catch Vonzell losing her place in the second verselet of “How do I live”? I swear she screwed up there, but no Tivo to check it.

Anthony really did well, good for him.

Oh, and if anyone does have Tivo, could you tell me what Bo was wearing on his feet on the second song? I swore it looked like he was wearing flip-flops!

What’s our count for former Idols in the audience tonight? Jasmine Trias, LaToya, John Stevens and Mikalah, is that everyone?

I don’t want the world, I only want your half.

Both Clay Aiken and Josh Gracin sang “To Love Somebody” on the same night.

Yeah, that was some sort of sandal and it was really distracting. He was great, but I can’t get “The Apprentice” association out of my head. I have to agree with Simon. The $ belt buckle didn’t help.

[sub]I still lurve him, though.[/sub]

And, Anthony was really good tonight. He still doesn’t have even as much soul in him as Mick Hucknall, but he [Randy Jackson]“did his thang tonight”[/RJ].

Between Anthony doing well and “The Vonz” crying after her first song, I don’t know who’s going home tomorrow.

Okay, commercial’s over. Back to The Amazing Race!

I saw it, too, but I thought she picked it up okay.

I hate Anthony. I really do.

We noticed it, too. Vonzell did screw up on the second verse of “How Do I Live” and Randy usually picks up on missed lyrics, but she was so shaky on that song, I think he igonored it this time.

Carrie - All you Carrie fans, I think she could be in danger. Her first song was rather lackluster, as others have stated previous contestant Amy Adams really rocked that song and Carrie just wasn’t as good. Randy sure sucked up to her on that one, but it wasn’t that great. The second song was even duller. Both songs seemed weak in spots, or she was just getting drowned out by the band but if so it always happens a lot to her. What I really think is going on is that she can’t sing low and slow, she can only belt out the big notes.
Bo - The first song was just meh, I think he probably wasn’t that enthused about it himself, but I think he “did his thang”. Second song much better suited for him.

Vonzell - There were bad parts in the first song but what I liked about it is that she cough made it her own, she didn’t sound like she was trying to sound like anyone else. The second song much better. Vonzell might get some sympathy votes for whatever was going on so she could be

Anthony - I hate that first song, it seems to be playing anytime I turn on the radio but he did it well. His second song was better than Carrie’s vesion. If he does leave next at least he will go out on a high note.

That was actually announced the week before Constantine got voted off. I’ve been suspicious all along. Wonder why your local news is just now reporting this … ? I think the album is in the Top 10 on Amazon.com.

I generally listen to rock and alternative music, from the few clips of Pray For The Soul Of Betty I’ve heard on different interview stuff with Constantine, I’m thinking of getting it.

ducking

If you do get it, and it’s any good, please let me know.

Did anyone else notice that Bo Bice’s father looks exactly like Kenny Rogers?

That was a weird show tonight. I wonder if we’ll find out what happened with Vonzell, but obviously something did. And then Anthony was much, much better than Carrie, I thought. I even liked the first song, even if it did ooze sentiment. Simon is such a cynic, he doesn’t understand how deeply treacly country music can get at times. Or, if he does understand it, he obviously doesn’t like it.

Pimped-out Bo was awesome.

Wow, what an uneven show. the first set was boring, overall, and Vonzell wasn’t so hot. They did better on the second set, except for Carrie’s rendition.
I don’t mind Anthony, but I don’t think he’ll make it to the end.
Either AFed or Vonzell will be gone tomorrow night.

I was totally thinking that, along with what the age difference must be between his mother and father. His mother looks really young. And his grandmother kicks ass.

The performances were pretty poor tonight, but I wanted to chime in to say that Vonzell is hands down the most beautiful girl ever to compete on American Idol.

I didn’t really care for anybody tonight - doesn’t matter in the least to me who gets voted off. But I am shocked at the number of people here who only know “For The Love Of Money” as The Apprentice theme. I mean, I realize AI’s audience isn’t made up of people generally that well-versed in pop music history (wasn’t it Vonzell who said she hadn’t been familiar with “Try A Little Tenderness”?), but come on - this is the SDMB, for God’s sake! It’s not like that song was a sea chantey from the 1700s or something - it’s fairly “modern” by any normal standard. I tell you, I’m greatly disappointed.

Wasn’t a version of that song also played a time or two in the movie New Jack City ?
Yes, yes it was…Lavert- For the Love of Money/Living for the City

The numbers were wrong in the closed captioning. Carrie’s number was listed for everyone.

I think the latest latest is that there will not be a do-over, as the closed captioning is outside of 19E’s provenance.

To be fair, though, I think there was only one person (in this thread anyway) who didn’t know it was an actual song before it became *The Apprentice * theme. The rest of us are just making the association because we’ve been hearing it once a week when we watch The Apprentice. For me, it’s almost ceased being an O’Jays song.
