American Idol - 5/17

I think Simon has turned sour on his anointed appointed golden child, Carrie. She is terrific as a vocalist, but not so terrific as a performer, and I think the bloom has come off the rose a bit. She isn’t bad, but she isn’t quite the consummate professional that Bo is.

 I’m so telling Ian.

Bo was awesome tonight. The farm-bot was great too. Baby V? I’m still not feeling it.

Only news from tonight’s show: I’m a little less sure that Carrie has this thing locked up. Should be a heck of a finale.

I’m not sure who I’d rather see go, Vonzell or Carrie. I loved Vonzell in the beginning, but she’s been weak the last couple of weeks. Carrie, just the opposite.

:smack: I should’ve known. I usually talk to myself in these threads.

I’m kind of creeped out that Simon has been to a wedding, where they sang, “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction”.

dangit - I keep forgetting the quote thing doesn’t work automatically here. >_< Pretend in that last post you saw:

 I’m so telling Ian.

So Thursday is the Worst Auditions! Do they mean from this season, or all?Ifthis,I so want to see Leroy;though he’snot the “worst”, just the most entertaining, as we say.
Bo wins. Next week too!

For me, even though I’m a fan of both Carrie and Vonzell, the only songs that really blew me away were Bo’s.

Vonzell’s performances at times were too ‘cutsie’ (never did stop smiling), as IIRC Simon said at one point.

Carrie’s performances were consistent but nothing that to me stood out tonight.

I thinks it probably somewhat academic who actually wins this. Bo and Carrie are both going to have record deals and both have established styles and audiences they can market to. If they’re both handled the right way, Carrie can make a safe pop-country record and Bo can make a Bo record (hopefully they’ll let him record some of his own originals) and they’ll both have huge hits.

She isn’t nearly as comfortable on stage as Bo is, that’s for sure. I’m not sure I’m all that crazy about my future wife spending a whole lot of time on the road anyways. I’d much rather her be a studio person.

Ian will forgive me. My husband is not so understanding.

After four seasons, and the chaos that was Constantine (Partridge Family!?) I thought I was all surprised out on AI.

Alas, Bo proved me wrong, swoon!

Me: OMG, that was amazing!
Girlfriend: And the total authentic feeling, how much would you love to be his woman tonight?
Me: Y’know, I heard she’s preggers.
GF: Well if she wasn’t, that song might well have been enough to do the job!

Vonz: “Look ma! Melisma!!” Honey, you need to actually hold a note and be in tune sometimes. I don’t mind the perky bubbly thing, although the dancing on song 3 was a bit manic, but she’s doing style over substance at this point. Good enough for the final 3, but not the final 2.

Carrie: “Crying” blew me away. Totally controlled and just sounded gorgeous. The Air Supply choice made me laugh, remembering being a lovesick teenager and singing that the first time around. Good job on it, but how incredibly hard to follow Bo, that had to be a confidence-shaker. Hated the arrangement of that horrid Shania song, Randy could have chosen a million country/pop ballads but it’s almost like he was sabotaging her. She actually had fun and finally seemed to be in the moment, I’m thinking they’ll need to Botox her eyebrows before any videos are made.

Bo: Squee! Just incredible.

I wonder if Constantine was watching somewhere going “How come they don’t say it’s pouting when he follows the camera with his eyes, huh?”

Clive may have the goods and be all that, but he’s creepy on TV.

I’m sorry, but Bo on “Satisfaction” made me ask “Mick Who?” Mr. Caricci begged to differ. I have been unable to get through to vote for Bo yet, but hubby got one in for the Vonz just to annoy me. He’s all jealous since I asked about a threesome with Bo. Anyway, he was just wonderful on all three songs.

Vonzell, whom I do like, was super-pitchy on that first song. Carrie really disappointed me when she didn’t go for that high note in Crying and I thought she missed a note in that Air Supply song.

Oh, my friend on another board who lives in Helena, AL watched the show at Bo’s church tonight - she lives within view of it. The girlfriend was there and some Ruben Studdard people. She got a Bo CD and is sending me a “trinket”. WooHoo - Bo paraphenalia!

I’m late to the party because I wanted to spend some time calling in for Bo. I’ve been using two phones dialing each number and I’ve only gotten through 20 times.

Vonzell
1st song - they were right, she was off in parts but did the old power up at the end bit.
2nd song - Eh, it was okay
3rd song - Eh, okay.

It was Clive Davis who said she smiled too much in the first song.
I like Vonzell but I don’t think she’s been consistent enough to make the final two.

Bo
turns into a blubbering puddle of goo
Let me try that again
1st song - Wonderful
2nd song - Fabulous, amazing, ballsy (I really liked Aktep’s visual of a naked Bo  )
3rd song - Not as wonderful or fabulous as the other two but still good. Paula has no imagination.

Carrie
1st song - Good, it was too dark to see her face for most of the song so it was hard to tell if she was emoting any more but she sounded good.
2nd song - Meh, okay she has the pipes but she’s back to being wooden.
3rd song - teh suck. I said to myself early on that if she ever did that song I would be more than happy to see her leave or develop some festering boils. Unfortunately, she did it. The first part was totally hideous, it was like she was trying to sound bad. The second part was a little better, Simon was the only one honest about it.

So Vonzell will probably go home, but for doing “I Feel Like A Woman” Carrie deserves to go… or get some festering boils.

Yes, he sang it in the wild card show.

Clive Davis’ observation about Vonzell smiling too much highlights how much this show needs guest judges. If they’re willing to offer honest critiques instead of just vague praise, it’s good for the contestants to get feedback from people who aren’t there every week.

Vonzell is lovely, but that black dress does not need a sash, and particularly not a powder-blue one.

Bo in the spotlight looked like he was going to…ascend…after he sang.

Carrie just happened to choose a song that Clive Davis produced? Yyyyyyeahright.

Nobody’s mentioned so far that when you call in, instead of the bot saying “Thanks for voting for contestant [number],” you get a recording of the contestant thanking you themselves! Omg…Bo’s voice on the phone…:::swoon:::

I’m going to try like hell, again, to get through for Bo. I thought he was a powerhouse tonight.

Carrie is okay, but I’d prefer to see Bo win.

Vonzell has gotten really annoying with all the smiling, giggling, C’mons, and other exhortations to the audience. And her performance tonight was uneven, overall.

I wouldn’t infer that at all. Simon has generally been quite laudatory toward Carrie.

And I like her, too.

Yeah, I was going to maybe vote once or twice for him, but after hearing his voice, I kept dialing to hear it over and over again. I actually got through about ten times. And then I played the tape of him singing a capella about five times to just continue my swoon. I don’t know what it is about him, but whatever “it” is, he’s got it!

I thought Vonzell’s first song was really out of tune, but she did better on the other two. Carrie was in tune, but the girl is just so wooden on stage. She has zero personality when she’s performing, which is too bad because she has a good voice. Vonzell, with a voice not as good, is just a lot more entertaining to watch. Even if she does smile inappropriately.

I watched tonight assuming Vonzell would go tomorrow, but after Carrie’s lackluster performances, I’m wondering if maybe she’s lost enough of her luster to be the one to go.

What was the name of Bo’s second song?
