I realize this doesn’t air until tomorrow, but I had a question, and hoped that longtime Idol fans could answer it. (This is my first year of watching the whole thing.)
What happens at this point if, today, it were announced that either Carrie or Bo was found to be in violation of some AI rule or ethic — nude pictures, unreported arrest, or what-have-you — would the other contestant win by default?
For the general topic, though, I’ll say that I won’t be disappointed either way with these two. Either one winning is fine by me.
I can’t read the article it says “article not found”. Perhaps it was a pre-prepared article in the event Carrie won and someone accidentally ran it? Or they figure they have a 50% chance of being right. But they can’t possibly know who won because the voting has not even taken place yet.
As for a contestant getting disqualified at this stage in the game, I think it’s more likely they’d either try to suppress the news or ignore it until after the show.
In answer to a question someone posted in last week’s thread, Bo is the strong favorite at 1:2 odds, while they have Carrie at 3:2 (according to betonsports.com).
In other news, woohoo! I actually made it through a couple of days at a resort without accidentally hearing who got cut last week! Got home Saturday and was able to watch the Tuesday and Wednesday shows back-to-back. Had to chide my wife when she starting jotting down the phone numbers, though.
There really doesn’t seem to be a specific answer available, Lib since they’ve dealt differently with individual cases. Treynce wrote bad checks, but disclosed it and went on to compete. Frenchie flashed her rack and was DQed but Nikki McKibbin from the previous season worked at a strip joint and made it to the final 3. Neither was illegal, nor exactly easily promotable Idol type behaviour, the thinking was that Nikki was upfront about her profession while Frenchie failed to mention a single episode of posing topless.
Corey disclosed a previous bust for bad checks, like Trenyce, but didn’t disclose very recent charges for assaulting his sister and resisting, they were okay with the checks but not finding out he was currently charged with other stuff, in fact he had a court date back home at noon on a Tuesday when the show was scheduled live 8 hours later.
Bo and Scott both have prior histories, drugs and babymama smacking respectively, but again the key word was disclosure, apparently AI is all about getting the chance to make the decision ahead of time.
I think it’s highly unlikely that anything unknown could come out at this level of the game, the contestant’s faces have been all over for months and if there were any skeletons left in their respective closets they’d have been outed by now. Pretty much all that could come up that might put AI in that position would be if one of them did something right now, going out drinking and whoring to celebrate making the finale and getting busted by either the cops or the media.
So, given that Carrie or Bo would probably make an easier to sell product than the talented but unpredictable other finalists, my guess is that AI would suppress with all their might and go ahead with the finale as planned.
Honestly, in my heart of hearts, I prefer Bo as well. Carrie is unquestionably (from my perspective) the better eye-candy. But damn, I miss rock ‘n’ roll. And nothing would make me happier than to see America validate the death of boy band nasal tremelo.
I got my Bo stuff from my friend from Bo’s town: a CD of his performances, a bumper sticker that’s on my car as we speak and a brochure. Let me tell you about the brochure. My friend went to Bo night at his church. It’s got a picture of him looking all Christ like on the cover. He’s got this flowy white top on and a burlapy brown flowy jacket over it, plus the hair and facial hair. Then, inside, there’s Bo trivia including the fact that he re-dedicated his life to God at that very church just two years ago. Who knew! Ah, well, I love him anyway.
I guess the first song is the written just for AI song. I am not familiar with the 3rd Carrie song but I am going to take a wild guess that it’s a Country song?
Dammit, dammit, dammit! I am going to hope that spoiler list is wrong, because it doesn’t contain “Fat Bottomed Girls” … grr! I think it would be Cruel and Unusual Punishment to make us wait for the CD.

I think Carrie is a far superior singer (in spite of the fact that I don’t care for country at all) to Bo, but Bo has the “entertainer” factor over her. Unlike either of the last 2 seasons, I’d be satisfied with either one of them, as they’re both good and will both no doubt go on to great careers in the industry. But frankly, even though I kindof think Carrie should win, I’d almost rather her come in 2nd and be able to do with her career what Clay Aiken has, by getting out from under the 19E umbrella sooner than the winner will be able to.
You know what? So many people are saying that they’d be happy either way, that it makes me wonder how that might affect the vote. Maybe the numbers will be very low. I do suspect that, among Vonzell fans, there might have been a lot of anybody-but-Carrie people, and it is possible that a large enough anti-Carrie vote might tilt the scale to Bo.
Hmm, I dunno, I never detected any sort of ‘anyone but her’ vibe but it wouldn’t be the first time something like that’s happened. I think Carrie’s never having been in the bottom 2 means she’s got a huge faithful fanbase that have been powervoting every week, and I doubt they’ll stop for the finale. So while everyone I talk to says “Bo to win, but Carrie’s good too” tells me that he’s the pick of the majority, the majority of us don’t powerdial in 200 votes apiece.
Grand final two, IMO, arguably better than the Season 2 Clay/Ruben finale, it’s no fun if it’s a sure thing going in and they’re both likable good singers.
I think ET screwed up though:
The final 12 always come back, yes. But only Carrie and Bo will get to sing with ‘their’ idols, the other finalists will be doing medleys and stuff. I can buy Lynyrd Skynyrd for Bo’s pick to sing with, but whaddya wanna bet that Carrie’s was Reba or Martina or Shania and she had to settle for Rascall Flatts because they were the only ones who’d agree to appear?
Also curious, the first year Kelly sang with Reba, but Seasons 2 and 3 we didn’t get a ‘sing with your idol(s)’ for the final two, wonder why that is?
