Only three remain. Do you think Haley or Lauren will leave? Scotty always gets the most votes according to DialIdol, though they are not perfect in their calculations by any means.
Which one of them gets to kill baby Hitler?
The OP was originally posted as a response in this thread. I won’t make a Simon Cowell = Hitler joke.
Haley is by far my favorite. I’d love to see her win, but I think her career would probably do better if she took 2nd or even 3rd place. That seems to be how this show works. In fact, I’d love to see a season where the final two both tried to bomb the final episode in an attempt to lose.
Anyways. Lauren should go home. She’s probably a better singer then Scotty, but she’s just not ready yet. However, she’ll hopefully be ready to be a real star after the summer tour and she builds her confidence. Scotty’s going to do just fine (post AI), he’s a great country singer, he can do a few other things, but not as well as that one deep voice. Haley, IMO, is clearly the best singer of the three, probably of the top ten, though I think Casey is a better all around musician.
So who goes home this week? Haley.
Lauren will hold on for one more week with her Cute Southern Blond thing and Scotty will win.
Watching this time shifted.
Really excited to see Haley do What Is and What Should Never Be. One of my favorite songs.
[HIMYM]Oh Honey[/HIMYM]
Will she get the sympathy vote for that?
Anyways, she softened it up a little, but I still think she did a great job. If you gave her more then a few days to work on it I think she could give that song the extra gruffness it needs. If there was any song not to take the growl out of, that was it.
Haley’s second song. Didn’t really feel like a Haley song, but I think she really embodied (70’s) Stevie.
And WTF is Steven constantly (in every episode) mouthing at the cameras?
Scotty: She Believes In Me.
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say this doesn’t work for him. This feels like a song that needs to be done by someone with a physically bigger stage presence. Someone that can sing it while kind of wandering around on the stage and really belting it out. The funny thing is, I’ve never seen Kenny do this song, but I know his style and that’s probably what’s messing with me here. Kenny’s songs, even when he’s singing casually still tend to sound big and epic, but you can tell he’s not pushing himself to do it. Does that make sense? It’s why his duets with Dolly worked so well, her voice is similar in that respect.
If you youtube the song, you’ll probably see what I mean.
Is there anyone else here? I feel like I’m all alone.
Is anyone in it to win it?
I can hardly believe Haley sang Afternoon Delight.
huh
It seems like Haley is the only one of the three who takes chances rather than always going with the easiest, typical, pick. Doing a complicated Led Zeppelin song instead of picking something easy, Rhiannon, and now Alanis—all of those songs seem really complicated and difficult compared to the cheesy pop country the other two always sing.
But yeah, I think Haley will go this week, and I’m ok with that. Ideally, if this was based on talent, she’d make it to the finals, but America obviously has terrible taste in music.
Haley: You Outta Know. The vocals were good, but I really wish they’d stop messing with the music. I’ve said this over the years, they always soften the music. The music in the original song is great, and they killed it in this arrangement. I worry that taking making the background music suck will reflect poorly on the vocals as well.
Having said that. Jimmy and the judges finally had their way with Haley. They’ve been dying to do that all season. They’ve never been thrilled with her song choices and I have to say, I like her choices much better. Don’t get me wrong, You Outta Know and Rhiannon were fun and different, but they weren’t Haley songs.
Well, 2 of those 3 were picked by Jimmy Iovine and the judges.
I loved Haley tonight and I actually voted for her - about 10 times.
She sang Zeppelin! That takes balls.
As promised, I did take Idol off my DVR recording, but I did watch most of it tonight.
I do not like country music and I do not like Scotty all that much, but usually he sings the song extremely well. In his third song, I thought he was flat (or off-key) or whatever the proper terminology his. Maybe Pitchy.
I thought Hayley did the best. Can’t believe she got the “Led” out tonight. Mega Kudos.
I don’t know how Lauren in still in the competition. white flour mix with water couldn’t be any blander than Lauren. I guess it is because she is cute. But my crush is on Hayley.
I think Hayley will be gone this week because the people who vote for AI don’t get her. Of these three she’s head and shoulders above the other two in all categories, but she isn’t safe and bland and comfortable. Oh well - I have no fears for her future in music either.
Man, Haley walked away with it tonight, despite the fact that she was singing songs at a much higher level of difficulty than were the other two. That Led Zeppelin song is really hard to pull off in a live setting. It meanders, the timing is tricky, and the vocals go all over the place. And she pretty much nailed it.
The second two songs were unfortunate picks, even though I like both songs. ‘Rhiannon’ is not exactly an arena anthem, and it really requires a great vocal performance to pull off. The original recording also benefits from awesome harmony vocals from Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie. Not only did Haley pull it off, but she even channeled a little Stevie Nicks with the hand motions and swaying and all the rest. It was almost eerie how well she managed to be Stevie.
When I heard she was doing “You Oughta Know”, I thought she was doomed. The verses were bound to sound thin compared to the record, because I believe Alanis’s vocals are doubled on the recording to give them a fuller sound. And the timing has to be perfect in the verses, AND the band has to find the groove and lock into it for it to all come together. And sure enough, the verses didn’t quite make it. The band wasn’t up to it, and Haley couldn’t find the timing, and the vocals sounded thin. But then she went into the Choruses and just blasted them, and overall made the song work.
The other two sang variations on country ballads, and both of them bored me to tears. Lauren has a really nice voice, but it’s a nice generic voice. Listen with your eyes closed, and she sounds like any number of Nashville singers. There’s just nothing unique about her at all.
Scotty is maybe a little more unique, and he did a fine job on his songs, but nothing he had to do was particularly difficult.
This show just reinforced my opinion that Haley is a better singer and a much better performer than the other two, and she may be the best singer the show had this season out of all the contestants. I have no idea if she’ll get booted tomorrow or not - I’ve lost whatever vestigial ability to guess the American public’s choices that I may have once had. Mostly I’m just baffled by the voting.
When I saw Lauren in her seafoam blue prom dress, I said, “Holy shit, did she lose a bet?” That was a good song for her, though - right in her range and genre.
I think Jimmy Iovine touched on the difficulty of Haley’s songs - she did tough songs well, and I don’t think the voting public will get that, either.
I see what you mean about the Kenny Rogers song, Joey P - Scotty ain’t no Kenny Rogers.
Idol could save some money by replacing the judges with mannequins, or cardboard cut-outs if the budget is really tight.
And Jimmy Iovine is just taking a dump all over this show. Took me long enough to realize that, huh?
