American idol 4/27 to 4/28

We’re down to six. I predict that Jacob or Casey will leave on Wed.

Please let it be Jacob. He gets on my last damned nerve. To be fair, I haven’t seen his last four performances as I always find something else to do when I know he’s coming up next. The recap at the end of the show always tells me that I didn’t miss anything.

James, you ain’t pretty but I just love you!

James just slayed that song. Best of the night. He has an amazing voice we haven’t heard before.

OMG, Casey! Was that a Carol King Song? Hidey, Hi! Hidey Ho! I did not know that wasn’t a Blood, Sweat and Tears original.

Awesome.

I loved James, too.

Nobody is sucking.

Jacob or Scotty can go.

Team James all the way. Jacob and Lauren are our bottom two. Jacob goes home.

Hope it is not Casey. The singing may have not have been the greatest, but the performance was very entertaining.

Casey was fantastic. Nice touch on the keyboard, to let people know he’s got yet another facet to his talent. He reminded me a lot of Dr. John through the whole performance. Great song, and a great bunch of musicians on stage with him. The AI band is much better this year - their horn section is fabulous. I love the sax player, and not just because she’s a babe.

James was awesome. Doing that opening acapella in a big room like that is a terrifying thing to do, and he nailed it. But hey James - you don’t have to sling your guitar quite that low to maintain your RAWK credentials - he had to hunch over to play it, which made it look a little silly. David Cook did that a few times too, and it also looked silly. Hike it up, dude. You had at least a foot of room there before you’d start to look like Dave Matthews and lose all rock credibility, so don’t worry.

Scotty’s voice was fine, but I hated the arrangement. He did a good job adding feeling to it, though.

Lauren was forgettable. In fact, I forgot what I was going to say.

Jacob did his Jacob thing, which wore out its welcome with me about six episodes ago. So whatever.

Haley’s got great tone and a really good voice. And, she’s a pretty good performer. Her big problem is that she doesn’t yet know how to interpret songs well. At least, not all the time. She nailed it when she did that flapper number with Casey a couple of weeks ago, but tonight the arrangement was lousy and she added nothing to the song with her performance other than technical quality.

Overall though, a decent show. The first one I actually enjoyed watching in a few weeks.

I’d rate them like this:

  1. James
  2. Casey
  3. Scotty
  4. Haley
  5. Jacob
  6. Lauren

I will second this whole post.

GAH! Just sat down to watch it this morning and my DVR cuts off (stupid storm last night) right after Miley Cyrus walks in. That means the only performance I got to see was annoying Jacob! Hope my mom hasn’t deleted her DVR yet.

I was kind of hoping he would grab the harmonica next and play a few notes…but that would be sort of gross.

That’s Mindi Abair, a smooth-jazz artist.

So I looked away when Lauren apparently pulled some dude out of the audience. What happened there?

Not much. He just sat on the steps while she sang.

I can’t see any possible way that someone other than Jacob goes home. His thing is played out. I dislike Scotty just as much, but he was better than usual last night. Everyone else fell somewhere between pretty decent and spectacular.

I assume that the bottom three will be Jacob, Lauren, and Haley, because of the devoted fan base the other three seem to have. No idea which of the three would go home.

I liked hearing James singing and not squawking, and Scotty expanded his range a bit. Casey turned a silly song into a bad novelty act, in my view. Shades of Weird Al.

As I said in last week’s thread, Lauren has not been in the bottom three yet. So she must have a devoted fan base as well.

Vote for the Worst is pimping Casey.

Rolling Stone has an articlewhere Kara DioGuardi claims that that there is Producers interference in the Hollywood round. Specifically, producers eliminated a contestant that the judges wanted.

And she suspects that Simon sabotaged the contestant pool because it was his last year.

How would Simon influence the contestant pool for this season’s Idol?

No, he sabotaged last year’s contestant pool. sorry I wasn’t clear.

I am not a big fan of James, but he did the best last night - far and away.

I always thought I liked Carly Simon, but then hearing the songs, I realized I sort of disliked all of her stuff last night.

I donno - I think all of them are decent singers, but I think this is the first season I have absolutely nobody to root for and could not care less who wins at this point. I will continue to watch, but will not be happy nor upset no matter who gets booted or who stays in.
