That’s good, because they were singing Carol King songs. :smack:
I said the same thing when I walked into work this morning. Always get those two confused. Joni Mitchell sometimes get’s tossed around in there as well.
James is just flat out good. He can rock, he can bring it down, and make it all sound great.
Casey I really liked at first but it is obvious that he is not a very good singer. He does, however, appear to be a good musician and arranger and I see him going into producing and arranging down the road.
Scotty’s performance last night was fantastic–and I am not a Scotty fan. He really made that song his own and he has a great relationship with the camera. He will have a good long career in country. Good for him.
I am a fan of Jacob. He is so devout that he will have to make a lot of compromises to get into pop and I do not see him doing that. I beleive his future lies in gospel music where he will make a good living.
Haley is cute as a button but definately runs hot and cold in her performances. I think it is time for her to leave.
I can never get past Lauren’s empty eyes (just like her Moms!). She is way too immature for this competition and is not really performing but rather doing some decent kareoke. She has a zillion teenage girls (just like her) voting for her so she will be there to the end and just might win it.
Okay, I’m officially calling the order of the top 5:
- James (if there is any justice in this world)
- Scotty
- Lauren
- Casey (who is better than Lauren, but will come in 4th anyway)
- Haley
- Jacob
5 and 6 are interchangeable, but I’m locked into 1-4.
I’d like to see Jacob out this week…well, I’d have liked to seem him out a looong time ago, but I’ll settle for this week. I’d like to see James out next week. Again, like Jacob (and Adam Lambert) I can see why people like him, I just don’t. Lauren after that. She good, but she needs a serious ego boost. I think she needs to leave, go on tour and then sign with a regular producer who can get her some real coaching. Scotty, well, I don’t know. I’m sure he’ll do just fine on his own. I’d like to see Casey and Haley in the top two, but I’m not sure what to say after that. I really I guess, if both of them had a concert on the same night, I’d probably go see Casey over Haley, but I’d love to see a ‘Haley does the Blues’ show as well.
Like Joey P, I like Haley more than most of you, I guess. I think she’s got a real spark of talent in there just waiting to be polished. She’s got more personality than Lauren, she’s a better singer and better looking, and she’s got chutzpah. She’ll really go for it and swing for the fences with a performance. Lauren is clearly uncomfortable on stage, uncomfortable being praised or criticized, and is just not that compelling or interesting as a performer. If she had a world-class voice that might carry her, but her voice is really unremarkable - the backup singers behind her probably sing as well or better than she does.
I’d prefer to see Jacob go tonight, but I no longer understand American Idol voters. I think it could anyone other than James or Scotty, but more likely one of Lauren, Jacob, or Haley.
I think the whole America Votes thing makes AI a popularity contest rather than a talent contest. I would like to see America vote for the bottom 3 and then the judges pick the loser.
I agree, she has grown on me over the last few weeks. The jazzy duet she did with Casey last week (not last night) was hot, hot, hot. I could see her doing more of that, a la Manhattan Transfer.
Yeah, that duet is what really opened my eyes as well. It showed a side of her I didn’t realize she had. I went back and looked at a few of her other performances after that, and realized that she was better than I had been giving her credit for.
Another singer Haley reminds me of is Maria Muldaur, who also has that little growl, plus the same yodel Haley slips in. Haley could do a great rendition of It Ain’t the Meat, It’s the Motion, if Fox had the guts to broadcast it.
I’m somewhat surprised at this result, but okay with it. To me, this contest is only between James and Scotty.
That was a killer sing out.
THIS IS BS. THE SHOW IS RIGGED. I’M NEVER EVER GOING TO WATCH IT EVER AGAIN…
See y’all next week.
Anyways. Ryan opened by saying we were going to be surprised by who was leaving and he doesn’t normally keep that many people in limbo for that long. Once it was down to Casey and Scotty it was clear that Casey was going home. Not only that, but based on the earlier statement, Ryan was sort of implying that he/they don’t really agree with it, backed up by saying (paraphrasing) “This…this is talent”. But Ryan Seacrest knows better then anyone that this is a pop show, not a talent show.
At this point, I would not be surprised if it was between Jacob and Scotty.
Heaven forfend!
Aw, I will miss Casey.
Wow. I’m really, really glad I missed tonight’s results show. Seeing my beloved Casey go just would have been painful.
Looks like it’s gonna be James.
Dear America,
I know this comes as no surprise, but you really don’t know fuck-all about anything, do you?
That Casey leaves while Jacob stays should be evidence enough to have several million of you committed.
Love and middle fingers,
Hal
I don’t care; I’m watching “The Voice” now, and it’s fun! Too bad, AI - you had your run, and you refused to change your voting methods so idiots always had the final say.
Love and middle fingers, indeed.
Great post, Hal.
