American Idol 5-3

What chart are Los Lonely Boys still on? That song is OLD.

And that was so lame for Vonzell to pick the AI group song, which is only on the charts because no one sells singles anymore.

Would be 12, wouldn’t it?

I hate to say it, but I think Scott sounded pretty good tonight and I laughed at his comment about wondering what song to sing next week. I’m sure the Scott haters will take this as arrogance, but I didn’t take it that way.

Carrie’s got a nice voice, but she’s so boring. She has no personality when she’s up there singing and I’m putting her in my bottom 3 just for that reason alone.

I think Anthony or Vonzell will go home. I don’t think we’re lucky enough to get rid of Scott just yet.

Hey, maybe they can save electricity and use Scott’s flatty flatness to flat-iron Carrie, Vonzell and Bo’s hair next week!

Gah, I can’t stand Scott. He didn’t totally suck on the first song, but his schtick is so very offensive, and he did totally blow on the Brian McKnight song, ick.

Bad night for Anthony, song 1 was total kareoke and I have no idea how he fared on song 2, I was busy dying laughing that the opening lyric is “Empty spaces fill me up with holes.” I’m a horrible person, but that killed me.

Carrie was so earnestly cute on her bad girl Elvis thang, how completely spontaneous! Very nice job with the country ballad, though.

Vonz…what happened with that first one? Couldn’t hear the first two lines then miraculously someone adjusted the mix, sheeeesh I’m tired of that. I did enjoy her second song, although I was a teensy bit disappointed that she didn’t have the cajones to do Kelly Clarkston’s Breakaway. What, it’s a current hit, she coulda done it. She’s getting a wee bit too Diva for me somehow, I’m not liking her as much as I used to and I miss liking her.

Bo is dreamy, I adore him and am voting for him but…kinda felt he was almost phoning it in tonight. He’s still the yummiest biscuit, just not as much oomph or something.

Only the top 10 make the tour. Lindsey and Mikala won’t be there.

Thank heaven for small favors …

Scott: surprisingly good.
AFed: surprisingly bad.
Vonzell: Simon was right. She’s not a “perfect” vocalist. Generic diva.
Carrie: Stepford Idol.
Bo: Sigh. Just so cute.

Scott really turned my opinion of him around tonight. I voted for him for the first time. He didn’t sing a begging song (well, the first one, anyway), he got right up in Simon’s face on the appropriate line, and he showed some facial expression. I was saying “moxie” before Randy did.

And yes, I remember the Brian McKnight guy from the auditions, and how Paula choked on her water when he said that!

I thought Vonzell was superb. I’m voting for her as well. Bo goes without saying, and I’m glad the rumor I heard was false (that he’d cut his hair. Eek!)

Funny thing at the very beginning. Something must have been wrong with Ryan’s earpiece, because he stopped, put a hand behind his ear, looked tense for a second, then said “Okay.”

I’m not sure what the deal is with my inability to call in my votes. It’s been the same with all three contestants, so I think it might be a matter of my provider not having enough lines for people to call out, instead of the show not having enough lines for people to call in. Point is, though, I’ve gotten far more busy signals than connections.

Exactly.
I’ve been trying to get through by phone, as I have for weeks, but can never get a call through. I wish I could overwhelm all those pro-Scotts out there. I’ll keep trying…

No, they did two songs each last year this week. Theme was Big Band. :frowning:

Just an FYI, I tried voting for my boyfriend, I mean Bo, for over 90 minutes and only got through once. That’s a record.

Actually, it was Paula who said “moxie”.

Carrie: Far and away the best vocal talent. Almost limitless range. Beautiful tone. Incredibly good looking. Seems like someone is coaching her on her stage presence. That part is improving. She’ll win Idol.

Bo: Anachronistic Eddie Vedder voice resonates well with both the grunge generation and the baby boomers. Limited range, but stays in his limits. Single handedly turning America against boy band voices. He’ll be number two.

Vonzell: Sweet as a Georgia peach. Beautiful cat woman face. Good solid voice in the higher registers, but only mediocre on lower notes. Still doesn’t quite have the soul for singing lead. Songs come through her, rather than out of her.

Scott: The most beautiful voice of all so long as he stays in the middle C octave. Low notes extremely muddled. Falsetto weak. Too much boy band modulation. Will be a brat if he becomes a star. Will be in trouble within months of signing.

Anthony: Not bad when voice is low and quiet. Screechy on anything above G. No soul at all. Consistently forgetable performances. Looks like he belongs on Star Search for Kids. Love boat factor ruins his credibility. He’ll leave tonight.

:smack:

You’re right about this: he didn’t sing a begging song this week … he sang a taunting song instead. “I won’t quit 'til I’m a star.” Unfortunately. What a jackass. (Scott, not you, Rilchiam.) Baiting the judges doesn’t win any “bonus points” from me. And Paula said he had “moxie,” not Randy – but either way, it isn’t so much moxie as it is a great big gigantic chip on his shoulder. Get a grip, you troll. And please get the flying fuck off my television! Gaah. I really can’t stand him. If whoever is voting for him decides to keep him around another week (to spite me, no doubt) then can we all agree that he should wear a paper bag over his head next week? Or, ideally, plastic?

No, it’s AMERICAN Idol, and last time I checked, country music was considered to be an original AMERICAN form of musical expression. Or did I fall asleep and wake up in Russia? Don’t be so pretentious, expand your horizons, and enjoy the woman’s tremendous musical talent.

I think she’s great, and along with Bo, deserves to be in the top two. Again, she stayed with the straight hair (no DBH) and she looked and sounded beautiful. You guys and Simon make me laugh. When shes whoops it up or shows some life (kicking over the mike, growling about being evil), she’s Silliy Barbie out of her league. When she simply and powerfully belts out a beautiful ballad, she’s wooden and robotic.

I have a different take on Scott. I know a lot of you have intense dislike for the young man and he really comes across as a smart-aleck, but I take it as a “tough” front he puts up to compensate for insecurity over his upbringing, station in life, and weight.

I thought he did a good job last night and have always thought he had a nice voice with the right songs. He has deserved to go for awhile now, so now that he had a great week, he’s probably toast. If I recall, John Stevens had one of his better weeks when he finally got voted off.

No, she’s wooden and robotic because she’s wooden and robotic. Yeah, she can sing. But if she’s got a personality, it’s not evident in her facial expressions or her eyes. Or anything she says. Do you watch her when she sings? I just turn the sound off now, and pretend I’m watching a Broadway musical version of Return of the Living Dead. Tonight, when she kicked the mic stand, I thought, “Uh oh, that zombie’s in a rage for brains!” Sadly, there was no bloodshed.

BTW, has anybody noticed how much Paula’s “medical condition” has improved since her sobriety was publicly questioned? Man, medical science is working miracles these days.

And as is often the case, Simon was spot on about Vonzell. Nice performances, but by no means “perfect” vocal performances as stated by Randy. When Randy says that after someone obviously hits a few clunkers, it diminishes his credibility. As usual, Simon speaks the truth and is roundly chastised by the masses. I fear Vonzell may be gone if the mysterious forces keeping Scott and Anthony in the game continue to work their magic.

News flash for those who haven’t heard Vonzell’s second song from last night: It’s the group Idol single they released for charity. It’s been sung on the results shows at least twice. Silly Idol fans! (Or maybe you don’t watch the results show, in which case, you have an excuse for saying you’ve never heard it.)

My ranking of the performers based on last night’s performances:

  1. Carrie - I thought she did really well last night, on both songs. Strong performances both times.
  2. Vonzell - See Carrie’s comments, above.
  3. Scott - I really liked his first performance. I was unpleasantly surprised, you might say. The second was okay.
  4. Bo - Did not impress me at all last night. He’s slipping off my pedestal, and I’m not happy about it. First song was too boring and showed no personality, the second just sucked. He chose an overplayed song that did not fit him whatsoever. Tell me there were no rock songs on the charts for him to choose?
  5. Anthony - Terrible. Just terrible. The first song reminded me of something I’d hear at the local high school’s spring concert. The second was better, but still not good.

So, as much as I’d like to be rid of Scott, Anthony deserves to go this week.

It is my opinion that Simon deliberately trashed Vonzell in order to motivate people to cast a vote for her. Reverse psychology, you know.
*Vonzell is darling. I’m rooting for her though I think she’s a bit generic.

*Scott’s “On Broadway” was the best I’ve seen him do. However, as a stage presence, he sucks. Unless you’re an acid rocker, beligerence has no place on stage.

*Anthony - He’s made for Broadway musicals or a boy band. He just doesn’t cut it as a solo artist, IMO. He’s white bread - nice but not too filling and a bit boring.

*Bo - His performance tonight was unmemorable. I’d love to see more personality out of him. The thing he’s got going for him is that he can write his own music. I don’t think any of the others (save the departed Constantine) writes his own stuff. (Correct me if I’m wrong.) If he has a vocal range, his choice of songs has not capitalized on it.

*Carrie - I enjoyed her second song. She looks like Reese Witherspoon. I can see her in the finals.

My rankings (top to bottom)

  1. Carrie
  2. Vonzell
  3. Bo
  4. Scott
  5. Anthony
