We’re getting close now. Tonight our top four, Chris, Kat, Elliott, and Taylor take on the musical stylings of Elvis Presley and are critiqued by Tommy Mottola, who is best known to me as that old fart who was married to Mariah Carey.
All the truly bad ones have been gone for a couple of weeks now, and I think the top five was impressive. I was sad to see Paris go. I don’t think anyone really has a distinct advantage over anyone else tonight. Maybe Taylor has a little bit of an edge. I’d like to hear him sing “Little Sister.”
I’m just going to chime in and say I’m both surprised and happy to see Elliot still here. He’s never been my favorite but ever since the final 12 I’ve figured he would be someone that was trossed off the show much sooner than he should be.
I’m happy to see Elliott still around, too. He truly has a fantastic voice, and I’m thrilled that America chose to keep a voice without the greatest looks over the looks without the voice (Ace). I think he’s one of the most deserving contestants AI has ever had.
Can this please be the week we toss “I’m-only-getting-by-on-my-looks-since-my-singing-voice-is-so-below-par-for-this-level-of-the-contest-it’s-not-even-funny-anymore” Katherine? Pretty please?
Anyone wanna join me in a shudder-inducing flashback as we remember the happy feet of Jon Peter Lewis dancing maniacally to Elvis’ Little Less Conversation?
Taylor: “Jailhouse Rock” and “In the Ghetto”
Chris: “A Little Less Conversation” and “Suspicious Minds”
Elliott: “Trouble” and “If I Can Dream”
Katherine: “Hound Dog/All Shook Up” and “Can’t Help Falling in Love”
If Taylor sings his second song in an Eric Cartman voice, I’ll vote for him until my fingers fall off.
I’m not sure if Elvis is a great entertainer to use if you want to show of your voice. I thought Taylor did a pretty good job though. He didn’t exactly make it his own though.
The better Taylor performs, the more desperate Simon becomes to try to get rid of him. A winner like Taylor is Simon’s worst nightmare. He’d have no idea how to market him. Taylor was very good just then and Cowell just sounds transparent when he tries to punk him out.
Is anyone else sick to death of Randy & Pauler booing Simon when he’s being introduced? It’s ridiculous and childish. Maybe it’s closer to okay when they disagree with something he says (maybe, but not really), but just for introducing him Randy boos as loud as he can, and this week Paula was doing her thumbs down thing. Stupid stupid.
