Per americanidol.com: <<The finalists will sing three songs each: one of their choice, one chosen by the Judges and one chosen by legendary music producer Clive Davis. Don’t miss a note Tuesday, starting at 8/7c. Then, come back Wednesday for a special 1-hour results show, featuring Clive Davis, starting at 9/8c.>>
I miss Chris but am morbidly curious to see the remaining performances.
One-hour results show? I think I’ll pass on that. The results show could be done in five minutes. Besides, I have to watch Lost! I’m definitely looking forward to tomorrow night, though.
Has anyone besides me heard the rumors that Chris has been offered the lead singer position in the band Fuel? In a recent story I read, it was mentioned but they didn’t say whether it was true or not.
The offer, at least, has been substantiated by the band – in person, on one of those Entertainment Tonight-type shows – but there has been no public information about Chris’s response that I’ve heard anywhere.
Taking Chris out seems to kind of even the field for the remaining three. Personally, I think Chris was the most likely winner, being already the most commercially corrupt. I still think he got voted off because his following grew complacent. Still, with him gone, it’s a closer race. This gives Elliot a better shot at the top, to my way of thinking. But what do I know; I thought Chris was gonna win.
I think Elliot is nine times better than Taylor, and about six times better than Kat. I think Kat, with some maturity, and some taste, could be great. I think Taylor has reached his peak, such as it is. I think Elliot could continue getting better–as he’s demonstrated an ability to do–and one day, possibly, be one of the greats. We’ll see.
I think you’re right, and I hope you’re right about Elliott’s chance to win. I really, really hope he can pull it off.
The scary part about this week is that two of each contestant’s songs are chosen by someone other than themselves. As has been demonstrated in the past, that can either be a really good thing, or a really bad thing.
Anyway, that’s all I had to say this morning. I just wanted to give this thread a friendly bump to the front page. It’s Tuesday!
I was totally shocked last week. I don’t even want to try to predict what’s going to happen now, because I obviously suck at it, but I know one thing: the show just got way more interesting.
I still like Taylor most, but as long as Kat goes home next, I’ll be happy.
I don’t watch much of American Idol, but I’ve caught parts of it regularly this season. One of the results shows -maybe it was the one where Paris was voted off- I notices Elliot and Katherine holding hands and there was something in the way they did it that got me to wondering…
I really have no idea if anyone else has thought this, and I’m probably just reading too much into it, but I had this wierd feeling that something is going on between those two.
Since I don’t really like Taylor (I was mildly charmed by him in the beginning, but by now he just bugs me), I would like to see Elliot and Kat make it to the final round and fight it out. There would be the added of excitement each having to decide if they wanted to win more than they loved the other person.
Yes, I know that last part is just silly speculation. In any case, those are the two I’d like to see make it to the end regardless of their relationship to each other.
Saw Chris on the Today show this morning. He confirmed he was offered the lead singer job in Fuel, he just said it was flattering to be offered a spot in a band he’d listened to for a long time. Doesn’t sound like he’s going to do it for whatever reason. He also said he’d talked to the lead singer of Live, but I don’t think that was anything to do with a job.
“You are so Beautiful” by Joe Cocker (Randy’s Pick)
“Dancing in the Dark” by Bruce Springsteen or “Walkin’ In Memphis” by Marc Cohn(Clive’s Pick)
“Try A Little Tenderness” by Otis Redding (Taylor’s Pick)
Elliot
“What You Won’t Do For Love” by Bobby Caldwell (Paula’s Pick)
“Open Arms” by Journey (Clive’s Pick)
“The Sun is Going to Shine Again” by Ray Charles (Elliot’s Pick)
Katherine
“Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Judy Garland (Simon’s Pick)
“I Believe I Can Fly” by R. Kelly (Clive’s Pick)
“Man I Feel Like A Woman” by Shania Twain (Katherin’s Pick) [/Spoiler]
If so, I think Kat is screwed and Taylor is annointed.
Chris fans out there may want to check out his band, Absent Element. I guess they remind me the most of Tool. Not really my favorite subgenre, but they sound pretty good for what they do. I didn’t think I’d miss Chris all that much, but then I realized there is no other AI contestant whose band I would want to listen to even on a casual basis. And I found myself listening to these MP3s a bunch.
I still think Chris is better off not winning. He’s not a soloist. The recognition and fan base he has built through AI will be much more useful than winning the crappy record contract at the end of this. That he was booted with such shock and awe, and that he’s been gracious about it in interviews, will further benefit his image, and with luck carry him into the career he deserves.
Elliott, on the other hand, would benefit the most from winning:
I completely agree. Let’s hope “America” does too.
It’s funny about Katharine. I was an early fan of hers, given that she has the best voice of this competition. But in the past few weeks her immaturity has really stood out. Whenever anybody asks her a question, she can’t seem to come up with a coherent answer, even Ryan’s stupid time-filling softballs. In stark contract to The Pick - who was dead on stage, but had a sort of nauseating charm off of it - Katharine is a great performer with a beautiful voice, but off stage seems rather dim and personality-free. I guess that’s appropriate for an “American Idol,” but I think she should go this week.
I guess anything is possible, but that seems like an odd coupling to me. I think the hand-holding was nothing more than friends who have bonded through a shared experience supporting each other.
Personally, I would have been thrilled to see an Ace Young/Will Makar hookup, but I don’t suppose we’ll ever hear about that…
