American Idol Discussion Feb 2-3, 2011

That poor blonde girl was a heap of emotional wreckage. I have to admit I cried when her dad hugged her. Awwww! I thought it was really sweet that Jennifer gave her a second chance. (Even though if they were honest, they should have told her that she needed to get over her stage fright (“Try musical theatre for a few years, then come back”) before she could move on.)

What does Muck rhyme with?

Exactly, PunditLisa. I’m sure they’re under a lot more pressure at that moment than I’ve ever dealt with, but still. If I were a judge, I’d automatically say no to anyone crying. It’s not going to get easier.

Regarding the blonde girl, it was pretty obvious she had already been crying as soon as her audition had been started (her face is puffy and her eyes are red). Of course, that could be due to editing and maybe this was all out of order…maybe she crying during the Round 1 auditions as well. Anyways, if there was anyone who deserved to hear the statement “If we put you through, you’re going to get eaten alive in Hollywood, you’re just not strong enough to make it” it’s her. She was one one of those singers where you can hear the voice in there, somewhere (she sang At Last, right). There’s a bit of talent. It might just need some coaxing, but if she falls apart in front of three celebs and a camera crew, she’s not going to do well in front of an audience, TV viewers and a whole bunch of competitors. I’m guessing she’ll be out in the first round of eliminations in Hollywood. She needs to stick to parties and bars where she can do a 15 minute set with no pressure.

I liked big butt guy (sorry if someone already mentioned him - I’m having trouble remembering names and aution order)and he really does have a JLO going on.

Finally got a chance to see (most) of the show–our cable has been out for two days, so the best I could do was random Youtube video clips.

My favorites were John Wayne, who had an awesome baritone–the kind of voice you generally don’t get on Idol, and Seth Rogen at the end there. Not sure if his deadpan sense of humor comes across very well though–it might alienate viewers who take him too seriously. But the singing is definitely there.

Crying girl did have about five key changes on “At Last,” and the guy who sang Chris Cornell? No. Just no.

Also, someone needs to tell the girl member of the singing couple that her BF is TOTALLY gay.

Yeah, but Ryan Seacrest is dating Julianne Hough, so my gaydar is all off.

You mean Seth Rogan? I agree - he has some good potential.

No kidding. Everyone goes dancing out of the audition room thinking they’ve really done something, but that’s just the first, EASIEST step.

Heh. Not gonna argue with you.

I don’t think this kid told his mom that he dropped out…

No he most certainly did not. But she knows now. To make it worse, he said he dropped out to be in AI. And the other kid…“My voice is good enough to be like super star status here in America. I have the talent, the singing ability and I can rock the house”
And he wasn’t joking. I truly believe that he truly believed that statement. My guess is that when he’s with friends, regardless of quality he’s belting out the lyrics. He probably, like so many other people equate the ability to sing LOUDLY with power and so often we refer to good singers like Whitney and Aretha as having powerful voices. Therefore in his mind, singing loudly on karaoke night means he’ll be the next Mariah, he just has to be discovered.

Also, I just heard on TMZ that John Wayne (cowboy from yesterday) has had a bit more experience then we were led to believe. This wasn’t exactly the first time he’s been singing, apparently, (according to TMZ) he was (almost?) nominated for a Grammy.

ETA, I was wrong, he wan’t nominated for a Grammy, he was considered for 7 Grammy Nominations when he was 14.

Tynisha has three albums “ready to be composed”. They would be in the imaginary stage, then?

I’m a really good singer, I have like three albums [sub]that are ready to be composed.[/sub]

Notice that even when she’s not ‘singing’ she’s still talking into the mic… Oww.

Yay, Gutierrez brothers!

That last guy is more handsome than a giraffe AND a gee-raffe, so I guess someone has some competition.

Having a song ‘submitted for 7 Grammy nominations’ doesn’t mean a thing, other than that someone went to the trouble of going online to the Grammy site and filling out the forms, then sending a CD to them. His mom or dad could have done that. He wasn’t actually nominated.

I think this is TMZ trying to build up a controversy out of very little.

They said ‘considered’ but is that what that means?

“the album received enough votes to make it into seven categories in the first-round Grammy nomination ballots, but was ultimately not nominated after the final round of voting”

So I’m guessing that what this means is that it made it past the 150 experts, but didn’t get enough votes from the NARAS members. Eitherway, all TMZ was saying is that this isn’t some yokel that hasn’t done more then sing to some farm animals. He knows what he’s doing.

Which makes him no different than 50% of the finalists in any given year.

Seriously, is Tynisha a man? Her whole look and style are like a transsexual’s. Her face looks very masculine in a feminine way.
