American Idol Discussion Feb 2-3, 2011

This was the weakest episode so far this season. Other than the pair of brothers, the talent was weak–that’s the only non-freakshow audition I can remember, and I thought they were going to be another freakshow until they started singing. I generally dislike the crazy bad auditions, and it seemed like there were way too many of those for this one. Seriously, was there a single person in this episode who you think could win it all?

There have been a bunch of mediocre singers this year. I like the really bad ones. They have not shown enough really bad ones. The worse they are the more I like it.

Are they trying to focus more on the good singers instead of the bad singers and trainwrecks this year? Cause, you know, at this point, I’m pretty much just in it for the trainwrecks.

Steven Tyler is a hoot to watch. I can’t wait to see more of him.

I have to admit, when I first heard he was going to be a judge I thought it was a stupid idea. I was wrong - he is the best judge they have ever had - knows his stuff, is very, very funny and still can deliver bad news without being overtly cruel. Even Jennifer Lopez is far better than I would have expected.

I think the talent overall has not been great so far, but they tend to hold back on the “good ones” until they get to the second part of the series, so maybe there are some really good ones we haven’t seen yet.

I loved the brothers, but that crazy guy at the end wasn’t even funny, just obnoxious and stupid.
