Gokey will be on Monsters of Christian Music tours with Mandissa and Melinda.
I was originally pulling for Adam, but the past few performances have convinced me to favor Kris. I am tired of Adam’s high-note shriek he does EVERY song. He’s pretty much just a one-trick pony. I would say Adam is a performer, but Kris is a Musician and an Artist.
In an alternate reality, Tatiana Del Toro cruises to to the finals with Scott McIntyre hanging in there as a distant second.
Also want to add that I thought Ryan Seacrest was kind of out of line. "You’ve already sang Queen snicker and Cher giggle.
I think the reason they keep saying that Adam is a rock star is because that’s an alternative explanation for his having finger nail polish, lots of eye make-up, etc. etc. and being generally over-the-top with the colorful persona and dramatic performances. Otherwise he would come across as “too Broadway” i.e. gay and the show is really down playing that.
Ironic since Adam’s not-quite-out sexual orientation is what got him on the cover of Entertainment This Week and branded the most exciting AI contestant.
I’ve been saying this to my wife all season: I don’t know how Adam could be marketed. He’ll probably have a great career on Broadway, but I can’t imagine anyone running out and buying his album. There’s not a whole lot of diversity in his singing. On the plus side, if he was on the radio, you wouldn’t have to see his patented tongue-waggle move, or Elvis lip-curl.
Is that what happened to Melinda?
All along I have been expecting it to be an Adam/Danny final with Adam winning. Now for the first time I see it could easily be an Adam/Kris final and the winner being a tossup.
Who Knew?
I’d be happy with the outcome of an Adam/Kris finale either way, and that’s the first time that’s ever happened on this show–generally the finals consist of one person I like and one I hate, and with the exception of Jordin Sparks, usually the one I like wins. I’m still bitter about Blake getting screwed by the Puppies and Rainbows song. I don’t understand why they don’t do it like Season 5 and give them each a different song to sing.
Randy: Dude, you’re one of the TOP THREE this season!
No shit, Sherlock.
And Kara claiming to be the master of song interpretation?? Huh?
I ended up like Heartless the best and really having had enough of Adam’s tongue.
Gokey:
Dance Little Sister - I’m sorry I’ve annoyed you, but that doesn’t mean you have to yell at me throughout the whole song. I didn’t know that Paula was looking for something in his shouting range. Also, what a completely random song to be covered. Was this even released as a single?
You Are So Beautiful - I don’t understand why anyone would intentionally pick this song. It’s so K-Tel and his arrangement was predictable with its faux emotionally swelling.
Kris:
Apologize - Kris, let go of your woobie. Please. You don’t need to play an instrument for (nearly) every performance. Your playing is adequate but it definitely doesn’t add anything to the song. Let the pros add the instruments. And no, he couldn’t do the needed high notes and it was distracting.
Heartbreaker - Once again, the guitar playing is like he took a 101 in Dave Matthews/John Mayer Comping class and he’s going to stick to that exact guitar style over and over. And over. Stop it. I’ve yet to see personality coming out of him.
Adam
One - It sounds like Simon “helped” with the arrangement of this song. Or should we say “arrangements” as there were so many different chapters in this small novel that it lacked content. There was promise in the slow part and then some cool bits with the gospel-esque second part, and the screen could have been omitted. But it was like too many cooks in the kitchen and ended up falling flat.
Cryin’ - It wasn’t that the mix was off and we heard way too much of the backing singer, it was that she and Adam didn’t mesh at all and it was too distracting. Adam had a competent performance but it was just a bad song choice. My opinion, he should have done something contemporary like “Supermassive Blackhole” by Muse which not only would have been perfect for his voice, but its inclusion on the Twilight soundtrack would have garnered him lots of extra votes.
I still hope Adam wins as Gokey just bugs me and Kris is a singer/songwriter who has cloned the banalities of the past 15 years in an amalgam of a yawn.
That’s what he said.
St.Pauler, I don’t disagree with anything, but I think I would buy an album by Kris because he seems to like to add some funkiness to his songs, and I’m totally down with the funk.
She was already one of those before she was evn on Idol. Remember how she was a backup singer? She was a backup singer for Michael W. Smith (politically active right winger – soon to be seen at the Sean Hannity “Freedom Concert,” or whatever it’s called).
Here’s a Wingnutdaily article crowing about all the Christians on Idol and all the ones now mining the CCM genre. I always found Phil Stacey offputting and never really liked him, but I didn’t know he was this much of a nutcase:
Here’s a couple of MTV.com articles about the number of Xians and worship leaders on this season’s Idol (really, the show has always been heavy with church singers), and the way it works to create Xian voting blocs.

Poor Adam is a gay Jew. If he gets beaten by Gokey, that will be why.
I read or heard somewhere that Adam does not thing in the songs where he sticks his tongue out (ick) because it’s a vocal technique to hit the high notes. Hmmm. Cookie, for one, hit high notes well without doing that.
Anyway, I’ll be watching Lost tonight, while making small sacrifices and prayers that Gokey goes home.
Danny was fine, but I still can’t see him winning. I believe he’s leaving us.
I liked what Kris did with “Heartless.”
I didn’t like the way “One” was arranged.
It’s a distinctly American version of Christianity that muddles naked ambition with God’s will.
-
Kris is prompted to sing Apologize. Does not know what the judges are looking for.
-
Kris sings Apologize the way it is known.
-
Kris is criticized by Kara for not having done Apologize as a guitar based acoustic arrangement.

Kris sings Heartbreak, arranged with an acoustic guitar.

Meanwhile, I missed Seacrest giving out the number to call to let Kara know to get some of that orange blush off her face.
“God wants you to be rich”?:rolleyes::rolleyes:
Hee. We were wondering, which judge will get the least votes this year? PLEASE get rid of her.
I thought Kris’ second song was the best of the night. I thought Danny’s second was okay. I really like the tone of Danny’s voice; it’s too bad he has such horrible taste in music. I have been really liking Adam all season, but this was not his night. He is turning into a male Mariah Carey; he has show off his incredible range in every freaking song. It gets old after a while.
Given their whole bodies of work, I think it should be Adam/Kris in the final.
