Yeah, what’s the deal with these car commercials, anyway? Are any of them shown more than once? And are the performers paid for their appearances?
BTW, My daughter is happy that Mikhala is no longer bringing disgrace upon the homophone of her name.

The best A.I. commercial they ever did was the Top 4 back in Season 2. It had a pimped out Ruben and Clay and I think they sang “Must Be the Money”. Good times. Good times.
Correction it was called “Ride Wit Me”.
Congrats to your lovely daughter.
AFAIK, the deal is that Ford and Coke are the official sponsors and as such, shall be mercilessly pimped at every opportunity. The coke-swoop inspired couches in the ready room, the mini-videos, the Coke cup Paula swigs her Boonesfarm out of, etc.
Part of getting the opportunity to continue is being in the commercials, so I’d guess no, they don’t get paid for them. They don’t show them as regular ad spots on other shows, but if I recall right, we’ve gotten to see repeats before, like when they throw in off-night “special” episodes near the finals.
Wasn’t there a similar one with ‘Sharp dressed man’ where Ruben was pimped out and Clay was geeked out and then transformed into a tux-wearing guy and they rode off to go clubbing in a Navigator or is that the same one and we’re remembering differently?
That’s the commercial I’m talking about. BTW, I have that saved to my computer if anyone wants to see it. I think my email is in my profile.
Well, I think you’re probably right about it being the best of the bunch if at least two of us are remembering it two years later.
I think it likely they could top it this year, just by making Constantine do silly stuff. I can totally imagine him being quite disdainful of dressing up like Clay did, y’know?
HAH! Thanks for the chortle.
That explains a lot, too.
Everytime I switched over from the basketball game, there was a commercial on. I guess they have to fill 30 minutes somehow.
But bashing on MalQueda was so fun…how I’ll miss it.
Hello! I am brand new but have been reading your board this season. I LOVE YOU GUYS!
I have a question you may be able to answer. Is there anyplace to see video clips of their performances like they did one season? I hate it that I didn’t record the night the men sang. “Moon River” was great!
I like Carrie and think she and Bo should do “I’m a Little Bit Country, I’m a Little Bit Rock and Roll”
Keep up the great posts. You guys make my day.
Hello, and welcome! There is, indeed, someplace to download videos of this season’s performances: watchidol.com (requires free registration to their message boards). Enjoy!
I thought I was the only one who heard that. You could tell she’d blown it when her vocal didn’t match the background vocal track, and then she just repeated the line. Seems we’re the only two who caught it.
To paraphrase Randy, “If there were a Stepford Idol, you’d win hands down.”
From now on I’m referring to her as Carrie Wonderbread, Stepford Idol.
Anyone else heard of Paula’s hit and run thing? I swear I heard it or am I imagining? She got probation.
I’m late to the party but I am glad Mikhala is gone. I don’t even see why some people found her amusing, she seemed like a big, fake gimmicky phony to me. How many people born and raised in Vegas normally sound like they’re from the Bronx? Oh, I know, she was raised in the New York, New York casino. And she can’t sing.
I was disappointed to see Nadia in the bottom two but then again I was disappointed in her performance. She can do much better than that, I hope she proves that next week.
This was a tough week to judge. Everyone did well except Anwar & Mikalah (although Constantine did well in a different way), & there was no 10.0 performance.
I admit Nadia didn’t do justice to “Time After Time.” As I was watching, I realised I didn’t care. She’s already won me over. She’s so hot.
I think Nadia is the one contestant other than Bo who combines professionalism & ease on stage with a good voice. I talked to my mom today; she thought Bo & Nadia would be the ones at the end, & was surprised to hear Nadia was in the bottom three. I chalk up her standing this week to it being a weakly sung (for her) performance combined with a do-over show a lot of her fans probably missed. I suspect Nadia fans skew older, & don’t make a point of watching the results show with its padding & silly car ads.
Constantine has the professional singer’s ease, but shouting in a hardcore band didn’t develop his singing voice. I was looking for someone to rate below an 8.0, but he stayed in there on showmanship. He’s not a silver throat, but he’s cool.
Nikko has the voice, but I liked his song choices better in semifinals. I thought he was straining & pitchy this week, then the judges praised him profusely. Weird.
We all know Anwar isn’t in it to become a pop star; he wants to go back to teaching kids.
Everyone else is in a big amateur karaoke competition. I liked Vonzell from the beginning. It took me a while to get the blondes straight. But all three are good amateur singers. Carrie is the anti-Mikalah; all voice, no confidence.
I think Scott’s ability doesn’t run that deep. I chalk up his popularity to the fact that he looks like a three-month-old baby. I thought he did well this week, but it was a short arrangement. And I don’t much like his voice, let alone his thug outfits.
Power-ballad Anthony has trouble with consistency. The first week of finals he started well, then lost his voice when he stood up. This week was better, but with Lindsay & Mikalah out, he’s now the singer with the weakest tone. Which is actually good for the show, that he, the stereotypical Pop Idol boy, is the weakest at this point.
Mikalah had to go. She thought she was on last year’s Idol with the youth movement.
~Predictions, after a fashion:
Next week, Anthony (the logical next to go) will get some sympathy bump in response to being bottom 3 this week; part of the cyclical nature of voting. May be enough to save him. Other viewers are about ready to write the poor kid off, though.
Scott is still the oversized cute baby; probably okay a couple more weeks. Jessica, Nikko & Vonzell are in danger of being eliminated as boring/unexceptional, Anwar as uncommercial. Two women out in a row, we’re due for a man to go.
In other words, it’s going to come down to the singing.
And of course, Bo’s still the obvious overwhelming front-runner. The judges have the thankless job of trying to make this look like a competition, so they build up Nikko & Carrie (who have voices) to try to keep them confident & in it. If the last four somehow turn into Bo, Constantine, Scott, & Anwar, it’ll not only be all over, but obviously so.
I love Nadia’s voice and style. I just hope she stops with the visiting Edward Scissorhands for a new hairstyle every week.
There is no way I can use the word “cute” in any sentence in which Scott is the subject. I agree that he looks like an oversized baby, but his look is far from pleasant. His voice is wonderful, though. I just can’t stand to look at him while he’s on.
Saw it and mentally noted it. Not only did she repeat the line in 1 minute of singing, but she repeated it back to back. But aside from a slight “oh shit” look, she really did pretend it away pretty well for most people.
Yea, heard it.
also, wasn’t that the name of her hit wayyyyy back when?
straight up now honey, do you really want to love me forever,
blah blah blah hit and run!
How prophetic she is! or am i thinking of someone else?
And she is so annoying when she throws a hissy fit when someone doesn’t agree with her. Can we vote her off next week?
