American Idol: March 22-23

Nikko’s song choice is the only one so far I’d never heard before.

I am on pins and needles waiting for the rumored Constantine performance.

80’s rock hair, for an 80’s rock song.

Anthony sounded whiny.

Constantine picked the perfect song, I hate it almost as much as I hate him.

Everybody else so far, has been pretty good.

Confession time. I love David Cassidy. I’ve loved him since I was about 9, so I cannot judge that Constantine. I’m gonna agree with Simon.

P.S. I was also in love with Captian Kirk and Barretta. I’ve always been unbalanced.

Oh. My. God. I think I love you??
I thought, when someone typed PF, he was going to do Pink Floyd. Well…he’s better than David C.

I thought that was pretty good and Constatine seems to do better when he drops the “rocker” pose and just embraces the inner cheese that is the real him.

That was not very good. I hope either Jessica or Mikey do very, very horribly in order to keep Nadia. And I thought the hair was very in keeping with the era and singer of the song.

Is he swiss, cheddar, ricotta?

Taylor Dayne; that is so Mikhala, and yet she did NOT sound as good as Taylor at all.

Nikko should really do Lou Rawls, and Anwar should do Marley.

I like the new, toned down Mikalicky. She can sing a little. But she’s outclassed in this group. Even Constantine sings better.

I hate that I’m tolerating Constantine. Carrie sounded fantastic. Good Egg, I think I’d like to hear Anwar sing “Could You Be Loved.”

Will Paula totally make out with Simon before the show is over? I’m getting flashbacks to that video where they had the full-on tongue kiss.

Feta. He’s Greek, ya know.

The opening of that song sounded like one of the bad auditions that they keep replaying and making fun off. And when is this girl going to learn to enunciate? I swear all you can every understand from her is the chorus.

The Paula and Simon show is beginning to annoy me. Did you see him tickling her at the beginning of the show? Then she was fake making out with him. And the stupid and obvious way he baits her and her always-- always jumping at the so obvious bait, like a retarded chihuahua.
I don’t wanna see it on American Idol (although one of those ooops! Sidekick Paula and Simon video would be a hit.)

Jessica was good, a good song choice.

Vonzell really was good though.

I’m fearful for Nadia because for some reason, people love Miahla. And, although I think Micky has the worse voice of them all by far, Nadia isn’t all that strong a singer either.

Anthony Fedorov- I Knew You Were Waiting For Me - George Michael/Aretha Franklin (1987)- I didn’t love the beginning, but he came through a little bit towards the end. He had a cute look going for him. Randy says the song is near and dear to him - shocker. Paula says she is proud of him and he’s “back”. Simon says it’s just ok because Anthony was trying to be sexy and he shouldn’t. He says it would be like Randy Jackson going on Baywatch.

Carrie Underwood - Alone - Heart (1987) - CUTE with the 80s hair. I love this song. I think she did very well. It is different from her country music and it does show that she has versatility. The audience loves it. Randy says wow, he says it’s one of her best performances yet. He loves the hair. Paula says she took a risk and it paid off. Simon says she’s the person to beat. He makes a prediction that she will win the contest AND sell more records than any other previous Idol winner.

Scott Savol - Against All Odds - Phil Collins (1984) - What is he doing with the vibrato? I don’t like it. At least he’s not wearing the glasses- oh, I just found out he threw them off or something before I looked at the screen(?). When he gets into the song he stops the vibrato a bit and it helps, but I just can’t love him. I can’t…and I’m trying to block out whatever Seacrest said about him being sexy or something. Randy says he worked it out. Paula says he’s getting better and he’s in it to win it. Simon says thank god it was only a minute, or he would have ended up doing a strip tease. Simon says it’s not a fantastic vocal - Randy and Paula disagree.

Bo Bice - Time In a Bottle - Jim Croce (1973) - I like it. It’s a little quiet for what everyone else has done, but he sounds so amazing vocally. He’s doing a hippie look, which is not difficult for him at all. The lalalas near the end aren’t great…the end itself wasn’t terrific. Randy says it was very subdued and didn’t show his range but it was a sensitive performance. Paula says his fans will agree he’s a gift to the show. Simon says that he performs like he’s not in a competition, but as if he’s someone that has already made it. He says the downside is that he and Paula have the same hairstyle.

Nikko Smith - Incomplete - Sisgo (2000) - He looks good; he’s all pimped out. Is he too loud or is it just me? His singing isn’t bad, but he does nothing for me. Technically, other than the screaming into the microphone that only I seem to notice, it’s a decent performance. Randy says that finally America is seeing the Real Nikko Smith. Paula says that was the best he’s done. She’s creaming herself, I think. Simon says it was his best performance and Paula kisses him repeatedly.

Vonzell Solomon - Best of My Love - Emotions (1977)- I love her voice. I think this is a better song choice than some she’s chosen in the past. Paula dances while she sings. She really has a pretty voice. Good song choice for her range and her style. Randy loves it, Paula loves it and says she took a risk - which I don’t agree with. Simon says he thinks that for the first time since she’s been in the competition people will remember her.

Constantine Maroulis - I Think I Love You - The Partridge Family (1970) - He looks better. It pains me to say that. Oh wait, new camera angle - I’m over it. Whew! I can’t really complain about his vocals, he can sing. I don’t love the song in general and it seems like he’s trying to grunge/rap it up or something. I don’t know, didn’t do much for me. Randy says it was an interesting song and he pulled it off but it was over the top. Paula says he is an excellent entertainer and is the showman of the group. Simon says it’s an odd fit, the rocker doing the Partridge Family. He said it was like ordering a guard dog for your home and getting a poodle in a leather jacket. (That was a funny image, IMO.)

Nadia Turner - Time After Time - Cyndi Lauper (1984) - LOVE this song…LOVE. Her timing is a little off in the beginning. She has a deep sultry voice that I thought might not work for a Cyndi song, but she pulls it off. She is doing the 80s look - I like it when they get into the look of the time. She has the eyeshadow, a mohawk, the shirt, the earrings, jeans and belt. Everything works for her. Randy says she’s a star, he loves the mohawk. Paula says she rocked it though it wasn’t her fav song choice. Simon says it was over the top and it was her weakest performance so far.

Mikalah Gordon - Love Will Lead You Back - Taylor Dayne (1988) – Wow…this is not working for me. Is she sick? She seems hoarse. She LOOKS good. I really love her in black and the straight hair – the pants are ugly. Randy says he misses the young, fun Mikalah. He wants the energetic girl back. Paula says that she’s concerned that she does not have an original sound lately. Simon says it was a complete and utter mess.

Anwar Robinson - Ain’t Nobody - Chaka Khan (1983) – He is a bit off at the beginning, too. Looks gorgeous. As he gets to the chorus he seems to relax a bit and pulls it together. Paula is dancing again. He hits a high note towards the end that is terrific. Randy says it was aight. Paula says she’s proud of him for taking on a female song and he did an incredible song. Simon says it was risky taking on that song – he says it was lazy at the beginning though he pulled it through with that one note.

Jessica Sierra - Total Eclipse of the Heart - Bonnie Tyler (1983)- She better ROCK it, this is one of my favorite songs. She does it with a bit more rock than the original but her voice isn’t doing it for me in this song, she’s not hitting it right. I hate her shirt. The end isn’t bad. It wasn’t bad…it just wasn’t good. Randy says it was a brilliant performance. Paula says it was a brilliant performance and she closed the show on top and she’s proud of her. Simon says that she and Carrie outsung everyone else in the performance tonight. Why is she doing the skunk hair? That’s not attractive. Meh, I don’t agree with the judges on this one. I figured it out - it’s not that she did it badly, it’s that it could have been SO much better. It’s a song that a good performer can wow a crowd with, and I wasn’t wowed.

This might as well have been 80s night, as most of the performers picked a song from the eighties. This is one theme night I really enjoyed. I heart the 80s. I have to wonder what Bo would have done with someone like Bon Jovi. I didn’t mind Jim Croce, but I think he would have rocked out an 80s big hair song.

Bo and Carrie are still my tops. If they were heads up in the final two, I wouldn’t know what to do. Vonzell is gaining ground with me, as is Nadia. I think Nadia could have chosen a song that would have shown her skills better. I think Mikalah is trying to hard to do what the judges are telling her to do, which constantly conflicts. Since my reviews this week didn’t generally jibe with the judges, I’m not sure who to call bottom this week. Scott or Nikko would be my preference.

I wish Nadia would sing instead of eye-fucking the camera. I swear she does that more than Constantine.

My bottom three are Anthony, Nadia, and Mikhala.
