American Idol: March 22-23

Who IS your favorite, Biggirl?

Can I just say that I’d throw back all the male American Idol contestants for Donny Osmond. He’s got to be nearly fifty and he looks FANTASTIC! Damn! That’s a good looking man. sigh

By the way, Vonzell has got to be the prettiest contestant they’ve ever had. She also seems really sweet and I think that just adds to her attractiveness.

Some kinda numerology hoodoo going on at AI tonight, all the even numbers ruled!

Carrie~ I loves me some 80s hair, baby! My personal song choice yardstick is “I could do that” and I wouldn’t even attempt Heart, go Carrie!

Bo~ such a strong stage performer, perfect mellow 70s Croce sound and the wardrobe, just ahhhhhhh.

Vonzell~ I so love her energy and she’s just cute as a button and finally letting a little Diva peek out, good job.

Nadia~ goes forward tonight just for having the balls to 'hawk out, great googly moogly! Girlfriend makes up with showmanship what she lacks in range, loved the hair, earrings, shirt, the whole 80s gestalt.

Anwar~ Wow, doing the audience stairclimb during an upbeat song, I was inhaling for him just watching along. Didn’t so much get the whole “look” thing, but if he’d come out channeling Chaka we’d have been in trouble. He had a couple of straight in the camera slow sexy smile shots that nearly had me sliding off the couch, whew!
Yeah, Smirky McSmarmovitch rocked, damn him. Scott sucked, whiny and straining and over gimmicky, I wanted Mikalaneehoohaa to do well, I was really pulling for her, she simply swung and missed. I’m so in love with the even numbers I just don’t even care about Jessica or Federov or Nikko, although Jessica might have owned that song if they hadn’t butchered the arranging so badly.

I’m right there with you on the Paula and Simon Escapades, Biggirl and Randy’s moodiness needs to take a hike as well. When he’s happy, everyone’s bringing it, in it to win it, wonderful, when he’s pissy no one but his very favorites rates more than a meh.

Donny O turned 47 on December 9th. God, how sick am I to know that? :stuck_out_tongue:

My favorite? That’s hard. A toss-up between Vonzell and Carrie. The worse Miky and, yes, Nadia.

Oh yea, there is not a pit in Hell deep enough for me to bury Constantine’s greezy and pimped down version of my one true innocent love and the song he sang just for me.

Could’ve been worse, he could have done Sugar Sugar. What do his friends call him, Connie, Con, Mayor McCheese? hee hee

Best this week-Vonzell, Nikko, Bo.
I hope Vonzell gets more votes, I heard she was low on the list. Didn’t Paula say Connie had a huge girl fan base? Speaks about girls nowadays duzn’t it?

God help me, I thought Carrie and Connie were the best tonight. Mickey sucked hard and still enunciates like Marlee Matlin. The rest were pretty much themselves and were fine. They all gave good competent performances, but only Carrie and Connie popped out for me tonight and only because they both went against their own “types.”

I forgot my prediction. I’m guessing the journey will end for Mikalah.

Connie was in trouble with Simon and Randy for stepping outside of the box they put him in. I interpreted the smirk – this time – as him being good natured about them not getting the joke.

Bo is short for boring. Competent, but boring. His song selection is killing him for me (obviously not for many others).

Anthony: yuck. I’m sure he’s a nice guy, he just can’t sing very well.

Carrie: Hate the Bridezilla hair. She bores the hell out of me. I thought the back up singer was better.

Scott: I thought he sounded great. Simon is annoying me with his pimping of the Barbie Doll and dissing of Scott. Obviously, she’ll be easier to market but it bugs me to see such naked preference for looks over talent.

Bo: I’m biased. I thought this was good, not great, but highly preferable to the belting out of crappy 80s songs.

Nikko: Awful outfit, terrible song, but he sang it well.

Tangent: Paula’s drunk again.

Vonzell: Why pick such a distinctive song that you have no chance of “making your own”? It was good, not great.

Connie: Yuck. Just yuck. Unfortunately, the guy actually has a good voice.

Nadia: Nice cold sore. Crappy performance.

Mikalahhoohoo: Jesus wept.

Anwar: He needs better songs–it was ok, nothing great.

Jessica: She’s such a freaking dope. Also (and this will sound weird), but I was distracted by her scuzzy tongue. It was very karaoke to me.

Tonight’s rankings:

  1. Scott
  2. Bo
  3. Vonzell
  4. Nikko
  5. Jessica
  6. Connie
  7. Anwar
  8. Carrie
  9. Nadia
  10. Anthony
  11. Mikalahhoohoo

Overall, I think Bo, Nadia, and Vonzell are solid. Anwar needs to step it up. I don’t see the appeal of Carrie. Connie might be around for awhile. Scott won’t get far unless he gets sympathy votes. Everyone else is on borrowed time.

Rick’s Rundown:

Anthony Fedorov, “I Knew You Were Waiting For Me”

He’s still as boring as hell. Vocals weren’t particularly strong this week. 3 out of 10.

Carrie Underwood, “Alone”

Very good vocals, but she was significantly helped by the backup singing, which was hitting the high register she can’t. Not as great as some are claiming but a clear improvement and a very good song choice. 7/10.

Scott Savol, “Against All Odds”

Sings every song exactly the same. Not vocally good enough to get over the fact that he’s ugly and uninteresting. Boring as hell. 3/10

Bo Bice, “Time In a Bottle”

Very poor song choice; neither interesting nor vocally impressive. He did it well but there wasn’t a lot to do. 5/10.

Nikko Smith, “Incomplete”

Improvement from last week; at this point every additional week’s a bonus for him. No potential to win but he’ll stick around a little longer. 5/10.

Vonzell Solomon. “Best of My Love”

Excellent song choice and a first rate performance. I’ve always liked her and I’m glad she’s drawing attention. 8/10.

Constantine Maroulis, “I Think I Love You”

Mediocre vocals and he oversang it. He didn’t “rock,” he looked like a goof. 4/10.

Nadia Turner, “Time After Time”

Very, very weak vocal performance. If nothing else, it makes you appreciate the fact that Cyndi Lauper was a genuinely first rate singer. 3/10.

Mikalah Gordon, “Love Will Lead You Back”

Atrocious, as usual. Can’t sing in tune; probably didn’t hit half the notes. Phony Brooklyn accent is getting on my nerves too. She may end up as being the worst finalist in show history. 0/10.

Anwar Robinson, “Ain’t Nobody”

Started out very, very weak, finished okay. Seemed nervous. 5/10.

Jessica Sierra, “Total Eclipse of the Heart”

Mrs. RickJay’s all-time favourite song. Pretty good performance; not quite Bonnie Tyler but it was good. 6/10.

Rick’s Rankings:**

the Frontrunners

  1. Bo Bice
  2. Carrie Underwood
  3. Jessica Sierra

The Long Shots

  1. Anwar Robinson
  2. Vonzell Solomon

Along For The Ride

  1. Nadia Turner
  2. Constantine Maroulis

Just Not Good Enough

  1. Scott Savol
  2. Nikko Smith
  3. Anthony Federov

Christ, Get Rid Of Them Already

  1. Mikaylah Gordon

As sick as me, I guess. This year I told my boss’s boss’s secretary she couldn’t have a meeting on 12/9 because it was Donny’s birthday. She had it anyway.

Jessica sings good, but she sang that way too fast, it s a slower song.

Carrie looks more and more legally blonde each week.

Scott: needs to quit being dramatic, its pathetic.

Connie: He’s interesting, what can I say? Needs to attempt Paradise By the Dashboard Light.

Vonzell: Looked good, performed great. Nice outfit even.

Bo: Do Rock Me Like a Hurricane. It will work.

My predic: Scott will go tomorrow.

So anyway, to rank the performances:

  1. Jessica (and I thought her top was wicked cute)
  2. Carrie (clevely avoided those Ann Wilson high notes and looked great)
  3. Vonzell (she really does sing well and never messes up and has a great smile)
  4. Bo (what can I say, he’s my man. His voice is so beautiful.

I still want Bo to win. He has a gorgeous voice and I said last week that he performs more as if this was a concert rather then a contest.

I literally cringed at Micky. I was all pressed up against the back of the sofa and everything. It was God Awful.

Mr. Caricci loves Scott but I’m with the person who says he’s the same every performance.

Nikko doesn’t enunciate. Sounds the same all the time. Bores me to death.

If I was talking to my sister these days, we would have been burning up the phone lines over Connie. We were BIG into David Cassidy back in the day. ( I was pretty excited to see my man Donny too. If there had only been some reference to Bobby Sherman my night would have been complete. Oh, well, there’s always next week.) Connie should have a David Cassidy tribute show. He did get the whole vibe of that song and this comes from a gal who sang it in the car all the way from Bangor to Brooklyn when she was 7 years old - mapquest it, folks, that’s a long way to sing any song. He’s gross though.

Anthony - zzzzzzz

Nadia was my favorite girl till this week. Now I notice she does that smile over her shoulder thing every goddamn week. And that song, well, it doesn’t seem to be just a repetitive and boring little bouncy rhythm with no damn substance when Cyndi Lauper sings it, so what happened here?
Anwar has been one of my favorites but not tonight. It just wasn’t the song for him and it makes me think he’s only good at these old fashioned songs he’s been doing.

Am I the only one who read this as a solicitation, with “Me” being Good Egg? (“Yes, please do rock me…”)

I must be hanging out with too many drooling Bo-chicks.

I thought about putting quotes around the title, but thought, Nah, no one will take it the wrong way.
Of course I meant the song! He would do it right.

Anthony–Just seemed weak to me. I liked his voice, but the performance didn’t “wow” me. Another week of being somewhat disappointing.

Carrie–I, for one, was rivited. I think the risk paid off. Oh, Simon, you JINXED IT! GAH! That was my first response. Anyway, she was simply great. Loved her!

Scott–Not bad, but I wasn’t too impressed.

Bo Bice–Near flawless. No need for glory notes, no need to be loud. Just pure singing. I generally agreed with Simon.

Nikko–Wow! Color me impressed. Best he’s ever done.

Vonzell–What can I say? Fabulous! Loved it!

Constantine–I’m loath to admit it, but he was decent tonight. Only made me cringe twice.

Nadia–Looked absolutely beautiful. Very interesting interpretation. I really liked it. Excellent.

Mikelah–She looked beautiful, but sounded far from it! GAAH! Egh!

Anwar–Very entertaining, but he could have done better.

Jessica–She was certainly good, but to pull off a song like that, one needs to have strong passion. She didn’t seem to have that.

Rankings:

Mikelah

Unless Mikelah has a rabid fanbase, I think she’s toast this time around.

Honestly, Leroy was a better singer than Mikhala.

Uh oh - looks like someone at Fox really screwed up! When they ran the recap of the numbers at the end of the show, the numbers they gave for the last three contestants were incorrect. Where it said “1-866-IDOLS-XX” was correct, but when they translated it to numbers (“1-866-43657-XX”) they put 01, 02 and 03 instead of 09, 10, 11. I wonder what will happen tomorrow?!

Seriously? I’ll have to check the tape for that. Will Mikala be saved on a technicality?
