Ruben won.
What did Seacrest say the difference in votes was? I think statistically it was a tie.
As he should have! That boy has soul. Like, Marvin Gaye soul. And he was the only one who had it, too.
Good God I’m pissed at that title…c’mon it didn’t need to be in the THREAD TITLE!!! I taped it and was planning on watching it tonight.
GRRRR.
O Well, YAY RUUUUUBEN.
I’m sure all the West-coasters will rejoice at your thread title.
The lesser talent won but Clay will still get a record deal. It might be better for Clay, actually, if he isn’t saddled with the same wretched songwriting that Kelly Clarkson got.
I think Ryan first said it was a difference of 13,000 votes, then changed it to 1,300 right before he announced it was Ruben. This was hard–I’ve liked Ruben from the beginning, particularly when he sang Superstar but I’ve really warmed up to Clay. On the other hand, he’s going to make piles of money so I shouldn’t feel too bad…
What was the original thread title?
Moderator’s Notes
Philosophocles You know, I was thinking this afternoon that I really should make a sticky thread about revealing spoliers to tonight’s American Idol in the thread title because I knew some jerk was going to do it. But then I thought, nah … the people here are generally understanding and wouldn’t do something like that.
So I’m going to start a policy here and I’m going to make this an official warning. You’ve been here long enough to know that this is something that YOU DO NOT DO! And the rest of you can take this as a warning as well. Revealing spoilers in a thread title is a sign of jerkdom and will no longer be tolerated!
< pissed off moderator hat off >
maybe Philosophocles should read this…
no wait, i don’t think he can read… chalk one up for The Illiterati
205! 205!
I was really, really happy for Ruben. But I was also sad as I could be for Clay. I think they are both very talented and will have marvelous careers simply due to their popularity.
My hat is off to both of them. They were both just great!
Eutychus, thanks for the appropriate reminder. Sometimes people get so excited that they forget that the rest of the country doesn’t know. So it wouldn’t necessarily be jerkiness – just forgetfulness.
I haven’t read the American Idol thread and I don’t know who posted it, so I’m not defending anyone.
bah… wrong “this” above…
this is the real this…
I guess whoever wrote this whiny article should be prepared to eat crow:
I hadn’t been checking this thread at all before it was linked with the Spoiler thread, so bear with me here… was “American Idol Spoiler” the original title for this thread? I’m guessing it wasn’t and that the actual spoiler was removed from the title, right? Just for clarification.
KSO,
You’re right…that’s what happened last night, however I just heard on NBC’s Today show that the difference was 100,000 votes!
What do you expect? It’s the FOX staff crunching the numbers.
dantheman yep the title has been changed.
A quick note that the rest of the world also exists and they do show these shows in other places and some people may be interested as well so even when the show has been shown in all parts of the States you can still spoil it for other readers.
good rule: Never put a spoiler in a title even if the show has finished.
Ruben was the big black guy wasn’t he? He was the best in the one show I saw a week or two ago. Good on him. Hope it works out for him.
Wow, not to say they didn’t make some interesting points but that article was a piece of shit. Ruben and Clay are both great. There is no need to deride Clay (or white people) to build Ruben up or vice versa. They both deserve better than to be reduced to black vs. white.
Hmm … all these changing numbers, maybe someone should demand a recount?
