You know who should do Patsy Cline songs? k.d. lang. Other than that, a singer needs to change it up somehow so they won’t be compared with Patsy.
The Cowboy Junkies did a beautiful job with “Walking After Midnight.”
Spot-on—every word.
I voted for Crystal, Siobhan, and Lilly.
It was painful to watch Paige attempt that song. The whole thing was just uncomfortable.
I love Crystal. Have since the beginning. She’s leaps and bounds better than any of her competitors. Of course, I love that song. I thought it was amusing to watch Katelyn in the background, tapping her foot but looking entirely miserable.
I liked Didi next best.
Then Siobhan.
Then Lily.
Somehow, I find the idea of Red Green being a judge on American Idol utterly charming.
I actually miss Paula’s whackiness.
This kid’s voice is way too reedy for this tune (Lambert doing “Trouble”). He sounds nasally too.
I agree; I do not enjoy listening to his voice at all.
Could Lee have picked a more insipid song?
Okay, this made me laugh out loud. I pretty much agree with Dio’s assessment, except that I also think she’s the best performer on AI this year, including Siobhan and the It’s a Man’s World guy, who’s are my second and third favorites.
…and were the judges all on crack? Lilly’s Patsy Cline made me want to pour molten glass in my ears!
Tim: too many others have done this too much better. Sorry.
Am I taking crazy pills? How did Tim Urban not completely destroy “Halleluah?” He wasn’t great, but he was okay, right? Did I hear wrong?
I can’t help it, I am completely smitten with the little Lambert. I love the voice, the vibe, the mullet, everything. Even his shortcomings are adorable.
I’m predicting that Siobhan will be the winner this year. She’s got the most going for her overall. She’s got a good voice and is a dynamic performer. She chooses interesting songs and she’s not one of the Ingrid Michaelson/Lilly Allen soundalikes like Lacey and Didi. She’s quirky and just Bohemian enough (glassblower/artist with a nose ring) to appeal to that crowd, but she’s also fairly clean-cut and looks wholesome enough to appeal to folks in the red states (in contrast to Crystal). She’s also, IMO, the most attractive of the girls and that in itself may make her more likely to get votes. She should be a producer’s dream.
I was surprised at Simon’s reaction to her this week, especially after all three of the other judges praised her highly. I kinda suspect he’'s playing the old “reverse psychology” game again, criticizing her so her fans won’t be complacent about voting to keep her in.
I was thinking about this, and I don’t disagree with you, but she’s getting something that the others don’t seem to get - if you’re not Kelly Clarkson or David Cook, pick something comfortably in your range and sing the shit out of it.
Okay, only Canadians are allowed to do Patsy Cline.
I am time-shifting, so I apologize for the delay.
I liked Mullet more than most here did. I thought that was a good vocal.
I also didn’t mind Tim, although it sounded nothing like Buckley except the guitar.
Andrew Garcia is fading for me. He’s making lousy song choices and he performs OK but it’s just weird.
Is this a joke? Necktat? Dude. Dude. That was all kinds of wrong (and dull).
Andrew’s song is creepy as hell when a guy is singing it! Also, other than putting it to acoustic guitar, he didn’t change the song at all.
I feel like I just saw the entire Iron Man 2 movie.
