American Music Awards

I didn’t see a thread about this (quite possibly because I’m the only person still watching it)but was wondering what anyone else thought.
I’m a sap for award shows and will watch pretty much any one, except maybe country, as I’m not familiar with that genre. For whatever reason, I knew most of the artists last night, which hasn’t necesscarily been the case in the last few years.

The overall production was great, with a really great opening number by Taylor Swift. I’m not a huge fan, but her music is fun pop and the girl really performed the hell out of her new song (Blank Space?) Also, when did she get get six foot long legs? Holdy cow does that girl have stems.

My favorite performance was by Lorde, doing the song from the new Hunger Games movie which I hadn’t heard before. Not sure how great I’d think it is if it just came on the radio, but watching her perform was entrancing. Girl is intense.

As expected, One Direction won everything they were nominated for. I realize I’m not in their target demographic but jeez, what a bunch of wankers.

Sam Smith won one and sounded great, but Sam honey, you need a new 'do. And wardrobe while you’re at it.

The only thing that had me screaming from the room was IggygoddamnAzalea. I honestly can’t remember when I’ve actively hated a perfomer more and now, the only thing I hate more than her grating voice is that ugly horse face of hers.

Finally, was there really no one on the stage crew that knows how to adjust the height of a microphone?

So, did any one else watch? Thoughts?

No I completely agree with everything you said. I was forgetting Lorde and boring of her songs but the new one is good and she is intense, though sometimes a little too much. For One direction I am neutral. Swift’s new song is good and yes she stands 5’11 which explains the legs. Sam Smith is endearing and good, love his new single.Five Seconds of Summer were crap with that rendition of the New Romantics song. Charli XCX was okay, and Iggy Azalea though she dressed awful! Not bad at all overall.

All I saw was the Lorde number- turned it on, watched that performance, and turned it off. But I loved what I saw. She’s a very engaging performer.

I also liked that duet with Nicki Minaj and the girl at the piano(well, at least piano girl’s part. )

The song that Mary J Blige sang that she had cowritten with Sam Smith was very interesting. My boyfriend and I were saying “it sounds like she’s saying ‘Therapy’ but that can’t possibly be the lyrics”. Yes sir, that’s exactly what it’s called. I guess Sam S. really was sad and lonely.

I didn’t really care for Ariana Grande’s torchy song renditions. She’s got great pipes ( though I could do without her Mariahesque melisma) and is pretty as a picture.

He’s the second coming of Boy George.
