American's pizza poll

It’s one of our favorite pizzas. I think if it were up to Mr. Athena, we’d get it just about every time we order pizza.

We do weird shit to pizza out here, but sometimes it’s not so bad. Banana pizza (with a cinnamon sugar topping instead of tomato sauce) that you can get at places like Bossa Nova is fairly fantastic, as is the thai pizza you get at CPK. Don’t know about pizza with cashews though, that just seems wrong texture wise.

I did order a pizza the other day from a local joint that baked a couple of eggs sunny side up onto the pizza with some robbini and ham. It was even less good than it sounds. The place is usually fantastic so I trusted them instead of my instincts.

Now I know that eggs only belong on breakfast plates and hamburgers.

Harmonious Discord, is it possible that the reason the poll here ended up with roughly 50% in favor of Hawaiian pizza but your experience differs from this is because of regional differences? When I lived in Nevada, pineapple and ham on a pizza was common and popular. Here in Wisconsin, whenever someone orders a Hawaiian pizza my coworkers express disgust and horror that I’m being forced to cook this monstrosity. I’ll get an order for one about once a week or less, while pepperoni and sausage are in constant demand.

NAF1138, I’d only go for eggs on a pizza if they were first whipped and then used as a replacement for the sauce itself. Mix in a bunch of cheddar, pour your cheesy-egg mixture on the crust, and then cook a few minutes to firm up the eggs before adding the other (breakfast themed, typically) toppings. Just tossing eggs on there? Aw hell no.

Yes say’s me. No, says the wife.

It’s a great combination, the slightly acidic sweetness of the pineapple mixed with the smokiness of the meat. Works well.

Olives, however, especially green ones, don’t belong on pizzas (or the planet).

ETA - I guess this does nothing to your 50/50 split, huh?

Interesting. As I mentioned, I like it but not as my first choice. If I anticipated going to a pizza buffet, I’d have other flavors in mind and if I had the time I’d wait for them. If however, there was leftover pizza at work and Hawaiian was the only choice, I’d go for it.

Yeah, it was gross. The yolk part wasn’t actually all that bad, but the whites being baked made the whole this taste off, and disturbingly sweet. 9 out of 10 of their weird sounding pizza specials are good though. The do a pumpkin pizza in the fall that is outstanding. Pumkin puree with garlic as the sauce. Roasted pumpkin seeds and fennel (I think it’s fennel, I might be wrong but it’s a harvest herb of some sort) on top of the cheese, and a hint of cinnamon in the crust. CRAZY good.

I like your fritata on a pizza crust idea, I can probably whip one of those up at home. I will have to give it a shot.

It’s my favorite type of pizza even more so if there is bbq sauce instead of regular sauce.

One of the best pizzas I ever had had slightly seared tuna on top dusted with wasabi and soy.

Yes. But it’s not my favorite.

Two Is. Three As. Hawaiian.

And hell no, I think it’s disgusting. I’m from Hawaii. I don’t know anyone in or from Hawaii who really likes Hawaiian pizza. Some will eat it if it’s there but it’s never something they crave or will order. Everyone I know who likes it is from the continental US, usually the East Coast or Canada.

I won’t order it, but I will eat it, so put me down as a yes.

Put me in as a yes.

It’s one of those things that I thought I would hate until I actually tried it.

Not a combination I would normally order, but it’s acceptable.

I used to like it before I went veggie, so yes.

BTW, putting sunny-side up eggs on pizza is actually common in Italy.

no

I expect regional variance in popularity. I’m sure different ethnicities brought up on mom’s home cooking will like different flavors. I know that the city of Superior has some local sauerkraut pizzas.

However this poll as given does not support anything beyond about 50% of the people like it.

Now that sounds good. I could live on sauerkraut.

American here- Yeah I like it. I had never tried it until I started dating my wife.

She is German; they (the whole family) eat “Toast Hawaii.” Which is Ham, Pineapple, and some nice sharp hard cheese on toast. It’s actually better than it sounds. She says it was a popular kids food growing up pretty widely consumed.

Yes.

Yes.

But I like ham on pizza less than I used to.

ETA: Oh, and just for reference, Japan puts things such as corn, potatoes, octopus, and squid on their “pizza” (or should I say piza). And no, pizza isn’t in quotes because of the toppings.
