An April Foolish MMP

Don’t worry, I’m sure it’s temporary. :stuck_out_tongue:

Capt. Cheekbones ended up having to crash here last night - he was supposed to stay at Mr Cheerio’s but we couldn’t get in touch with him for some reason.

There is no coffee in the house - we’ll have to venture forth before the withdrawal sets in.

Hose clamp? costs about $2 at the local hardware store, and doesn’t rely on adhesive, which collects dust and lint…

Blerg. I’m having some sort of GI (as in gastro-intestinal, not as in military) problem. It’s been going on but minor for a couple weeks, but now it’s getting worse. I feel yucky. :frowning:

BBBobbio said <snerk> hose clamp <snerk>. Actually I agree with that.

rigs if you’re ever in the same room with my father, that means you’re dead. Just thought I’d let you know that. Know what? He died four years ago yesterday. I just now thought about that. Just kinda hard to believe it’s been that long. I’m not gettin’ all sad and maudlin here. Dad had Alzheimer’s so his death was really a relief for him. AD is IMHO one of the cruelest diseases ever.

Ok, enough of that. I got a funny for y’all that a cousin sent me. Here 'tis…

**Copper Wire **

After having dug to a depth of 10 yards last year, New York scientists found traces of copper wire dating back 100 years and came to the conclusion, that their ancestors already had a telephone network more than 100 years ago.

Not to be outdone by the New Yorkers, in the weeks that followed, California scientists dug to a depth of 20 yards, and shortly after, headlines in the LA Times newspaper read: ‘California archaeologists have found traces of 200
year old copper wire and have concluded that their ancestors already had an advanced high-tech communications network a hundred years earlier than the New Yorkers.’
One week later, the ‘Newnan Daily Independent’, a local newspaper in Georgia, reported the following:
‘After digging as deep as 30 yards in cotton fields near Newnan in Coweta County Bubba Johnson, a self-taught archaeologist, reported that he found absolutely nothing. Bubba has therefore concluded that 300 years ago, Georgia had already gone wireless.’

HEE!

Bobby There’s a hard piece that is on that end though, and I can’t get it off (unless I cut it, which ends up being too short). It sorta slides over the duct piece, but there is nothing for it to grasp (thus the rolls and rolls of tape). So I guess I should just go to the hardware store and buy a longer piece of that foil springy tubing stuff and one of those things and install it in place of the old one? I figured I might have to do that. Annoying, but not totally impossible for me (or I can play the helpless woman and have my uncle come fix it for us).

Maybe it’d be better if I took pictures, I don’t know the proper terms and I’m probably not explaining well.

You know how copper wire was invented?

Two lawyers fighting over a penny…

Goode Co. BBQ, by the GIANT ARMADILLO. Ringo was there too but the other fella to join us quit posting a couple of years back and I can’t quite put my finger on his name.

That was a fun evening though, a real toad strangler of a rain, and I was really pleased to get to meet you and Dolores.

Ringo I knew from an earlier HouDope.

A hose clamp works great for my dryer vent.

Yup, we use a hose clamp too for our dryer.

I need ambition today. I have none. I stayed up way too late last night and got up too early this morning.

Beebs, glad everything is looking up for you.

Happy Firday, y’all.

{{those who need or want one}}

Tis a rainy and grey day here in suburbia, but on the bright side, they’re calling for a warm and sunny weekend

Went out for dinner with some friends (who shall be known as The Godparents from here on in as they’re responsible for the well-being of the kittehs should anything happen to The Boy and myself). We strolled down to Old Chinatown and found a lovely vegetarian chinese restaurant, which had the benefits of being equally tasty, fast and cheap, and then strolled back with some very full bellies. Num num.

I had an interesting fortune cookie:
A friend will always ask for payment with a smile

:dubious: Dare you to throw an “in bed” at the end of that.

Our route happened to take us past both of the houses I grew up in. Did I mention I’ve moved back to my old 'hood after many years of playing apartment nomad around the city? There’s something very twilight zone-ish about being all grown up and seeing your childhood home (esp since one has since been completely renovated in an Asian Modern style, and doesn’t look anything like it did when I was in residence).

Also, I noticed that little green shoots peeping through the ground in a few gardens, and if I’m not mistaken, a couple of purple crocus were just nearly in bloom. Guess spring isn’t too far behind… and it’s about damn time.

Off to grab N.O.L. The trainers are treating us to Swiss Chalet for helping out with their sessions. Swiss Chalet sauce = ambrosia.

If you add “in bed”, that would make it friends of Eliot Spitzer…

Did I mention that I’m workin’ out of da cave today? I’m listenin’ to a bunch of recorded applications to make sure all the necessary info is included. Since they’re copied onto cds, I decided to just do it from home and note anything that needs correction via email. Thus, I can sit around in shorts and a tshirt and work. This here telecommuting stuff is a good invention I tells ya!

ETA: We’re going to a dinner party tonight and I’m bringing a ‘nanner puddin’ for dessert. I can listen to stuff and make ‘nanner puddin’ at the same time. I’s a multi taskin’ bear!

And when the archaelologists came bak the next day, they found that scavengers had stripped out every last inch of copper.

Invisible Tenant does HVAC work, and he says they even have to lock up their scraps and old wiring/piping that they take out or the scavengers will ransack job sites. Around here, scrap copper fetches three bucks a pound. Needless to say, the scavengers also think nothing of stealing new materials or even stuff that’s been installed.

Sounds like your Home Depot already sold off the normal-sized grills. Other than two grills like I bought one of, the store here only had grills costing over $1000, which is just crazy. If I pay that much money for something, it better have wheels, microprocessors or a deed.

Nanner pudding sounds good… Maybe it might help clear the gunk out of my head.

Centerpieces are done. Arch has been assembled and lights tested. All the wedding stuff is in one room. Everything but me, my purse, and my little cooler is in the van. Shortly I will attach the trailer and head on out. It’s been a busy and productive week.

And I’m exhausted. I’m so glad I only have 1 kid…

Next time I post should be from home tomorrow evening.

Kisses!!!*

Have a safe trip,** FCM**!

It’s almost naptime here. I can’t go to TVLand until tomorrow because I have to do some freebie stuff for a client tomorrow afternoon. :frowning: And it’s such piddly crap, that it will barely be worth my time to do it. I was going to go tonight and bring TVMan back with me tomorrow, but he has a client that may be potentially dropping off a set tomorrow, so he can’t leave. Oh well. Maybe I’ll get something productive done here tonight. Who am I kidding anyways? :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, so far this has been an interesting day of ‘work’… The programs/sites that I use haven’t been working very well today; it has taken 20 minutes to load the page each time, so I gave up. Ugh. Oh well.

Did you know that stamps are going up again soon? (A lady in my office said May.) Buy the Forever stamps now.

I want a drink…

Drive safely FCM, and get much chocolate for the trip.

Have fun!!!

Drive safe MOOOOOOM! Don’t forget to wave in a westward direction when you’re on [del]the parking lot[/del] I95 through Jawja. Remember to stop and get FCD a pecan log from Stuckey’s!

I have declared it officially the weekend just cause. Ok, I finished up what I was doin’ which means no more work so it’s weeeeeeeeeeekeeeeeeennnnnnddddddddd!!! YAY!

gotti copper wire theft is a big problem here too. They caught several people a couple weeks ago who were involved in stealin’ HVAC units from churches for the copper wire. I remember drivin’ by construction sites and seein’ all kinds of wiring and stuff just layin’ around. Now, everything’s put away and locked up tight. Don’t blame 'em.

So things have been nuts.

At work was our annual inventory, which officially started a week ago yesterday and, aside from the weekend, went through 'til Tuesday. So … that was fun, in the same sort of way that getting beaten about the head and face with a dirty meat tenderizer is fun.

Then the blog I co-run took up most of the rest of my time as we’re pushing for more readership and trying to get things down good and pat so we have a good template to work with when we start to setting up a forthcoming sister site in a few months. I like blogging, but it’s an awful lot of work sometimes, particularly if you’re the only other member of the staff. (We’ve tried hiring a few writers, but none of the worked out. O, grammer, O spelling, wherefore art thou? (“Im in yr blag, killin yr will 2 live.”))

So that hasn’t really left a lot of time for Dopin’, which weighs heavy on my soul. So I’ve given myself the day (or half the day, anyway) off to surf 'n dope 'n stuff, even though I know I’ve just got more blog stuff to do this evening.

But TGIF all the same. What’d I miss?

Finally I’m home! Today has been a somewhat fruitful day, though a bit frustrating.

First, my daughter and I went grocery shopping. They must have had the heat cranked up to blast furnace in that store, because both of us were sweating by the time we got home. After a brief rest which included putting away the groceries, it was off again.

For the past several weeks, I have been craving a certain beans and rice dish; I had been able to get most of the ingredients together, but hadn’t been able to find the beans - they’re mung beans (you probably would recognize them as the bean sprouts used in Chinese cuisine). Trader Joe’s doesn’t carry bulk stuff, and today I found out that Whole Foods was temporarily out of them. Which left me with my last resort, the local natural foods co-op. Fortunately, they -did- have them and I’ll probably make the mung beans and rice tomorrow. Woo hoo! Excellent protein source for vegetarians, btw–and mung beans are very easily digestable. And oh yes, I got more Fage yogurt - the fruity kind (peach and cherry!). So my trip this afternoon was to Whole Foods and the natural foods co-op, with a stop at Baja California for a fish taco in between. That fish taco was delicious, btw.

I’m worrying about my son, down in Little Rock - they had a tornado go through there last night! I’ll probably call him later on.

I gotta rest up now - tomorrow it’s back to Trader Joe’s and Tarjay.
