Whew! I have had a very busy coupla days, but tomorrow will be rest at home day. I’ll actually be doing some cooking: making beef stew and probably another dish to eat during the week.
{{{{{SpecialOne}}}}} - you really did have the Week that Was! Hope that you got some relaxation in over the weekend at least. Hugs, good thoughts and warm wishes to anyone else who needs or even just wants them.
Today, we left the house at 9 AM and didn’t return until after 2 PM. I foolishly (heh) went out without a jacket on, just a long sleeved, somewhat heavy top. It was a bit nippy outside -and- the wind was up. I wasn’t outside for too long, though, as we spent most of the time traveling on buses. First, we went back to Trader Joe’s - and yes, this time I got the legolamb (yum, that’s going to be dinner one night this week!). Trader Joe’s also makes this very delicious Naan bread that’s called Masala Tandoori; it’s a bit spicy but very good with Indian food! And I got some lemon-ginger scones too - they are also teh Yum. LOL We even went to a bakery on the way to TJ’s. laughs Good thing we did a lot of walking today, I guess. After TJ’s, we stopped at TarJay and got a new coffee maker. It’s the same model as the old one but in black instead of white. And TarJay had it on sale for $17.99. We took a cab home from Target – too many bags to carry on the bus (not to mention walking home from the bus stop!).
Dinner is almost ready - pork chops (baked), sweet N.O.T.'s and rice.
Rippleacross- WHERE are you that you have no spring as yet? Even **Kawik **has signs of spring and she’s in Seward’s Folly!
Anyhoo, I played and got all dirty and I loved every minute of it. I am VERY out of shape for gardening (or anything else…). Let’s bore you kind folks with what I did today:
weeded and dug about 1000 Stars of Bethlehem. These are small bulbs which present with a crocus-like leaf and small white star shaped flowers later on. They are also invasive, hard to dig up in summer and I have them everywhere. Me no likey the S of B. (I’m too tired to go look up their Latin name).
Cleared bracken and dead stems from two garden beds.
Removed some now nasty looking “bedding fabric” from 2 beds which seemed like such a good idea at the time and (to be fair) DID cut down on the weeds for 3 years, but now–ugh. I plan on using lots of Preen this season and trying to keep up.
The Husband last fall dug a narrow trench to help the flow of water away from the north side of the house. It runs very close to a foundation bed, but there was still grass on the house side of the rivulet (that’s how narrow it is). I removed the grass from that side, and plan on letting the ajuga just run wild there. The “trench” needs to be cleaned out, too. That’s another day.
I transplanted some chinodoxa that were never going to bloom (although they were up and struggling) due to the juniper bushes getting so big last year. I may sacrifice their blooms this year, but they’ll be back.
Acted as “resident Queen, but we won’t use her” for 3 nine year old boys who were very busy acting out their version of King Arthur. Many, many dragons…
I’m all clean now, and will soon retire to a couch to read *Hearn’s Across the Nightingale Floor: Tales of the Otori, book one *, drink hot tea and fall asleep very soon. A banner day today. I made some money, had some fun, got some exercise and now can relax. Yay!
Got home about 6:30 this evening. I backed the trailer into the garage and we went out for Bad Chinese. When we got home, we uncovered the trailer - considering how much rain I drove thru. Tomorrow, I’ll unload the trailer and the van while I’m doing laundry.
I got really lucky, too. When we lifted the trailer off the ball, I noticed the nut holding the ball in place was nearly off. That explains the weird clunking noises I was hearing around Richmond. Had I driven a little further, I might have lost my trailer. Good clean living paid off…
**FCD ** likes my dress - yay! My friend Betty yelled at me about the white shoes - she said I need either dyed-to-match or silver. So I’ll be shopping for a silver necklace and silver sandals. And I’ll be taking my shoes back.
I’m relaxing in my robe (that I forgot to take with me) and shortly, I’ll be crashing with my sweetie. It’s been a *looooooooong * week.
Welcome home, FCM. Glad the trip went well (eek re the trailer!) and glad someone (else) yelled at you re the shoes. Silver or died to match would look better…(just sayin’).
I am going to REsoak in a hot tub–I am all achey and sore now from gardening.
Oh, for the curious, here is a pic of the star of B. flower. (it has another name! I am so excited! it’s also called “sleepydick”! Isn’t that fabulous?)
I did my taxes! I’ve been putting it off for months. But I finally did it! What should I reward myself with…hmm.
Not much else happening. Work was boring. But I got paid for it, so all’s good there. I found out one of my coworkers is leaving for Brazil for good at the end of June. She’s awesome. But she’s ready to go home after working here for a few seasons. That sort of thing happens a lot where I work, the various international people outnumber us. It’s fun, there’s quite the variety.
I should get her to teach me to swear in Portuguese before she leaves. Hmm.
Hey, those aren’t peanuts … They’re human infants!
I visited the twins with my dad today. They were mostly sleeping with the occasional stirring but they are beautiful. They are in the medium intensive care neo ward which my sis said was much better than the neo ICU (quieter, easier for visitors). Sis and BIL managed to get an apartment in the hospital for a couple weeks so they can stay there all the time, too. I held Twin A for a long time. It’s very powerful to hold a little 4lb person. They’re stil on monitors and a feeding tube for about another week. Twin B has an IV installed but they’re taking that out tomorrow. Everything looks cool and they’ll be home in no time. These kids have nothing to worry about health-wise with my mom and sis running things.
After we left, I strongly suggested to dad we hit a popluar Belgian place in Andersonville for mussels. The wait was unacceptable at 60-90 mins so we settled for the forgettable, no wait place he wanted to go to all along. He used our quick entry as proof his choice was better. Dad, why do you think the wait was so long?
Going to karaoke in Rogers Pk at some ‘Irish’ joint I’ve never been to before. I’d have needed to have started drinking a couple hours ago to get drunk enough to sing but I think we’ll have a fun time. I got a friend nearby so if I need to crash, it’s cool. It was nice and springy today, moods are high and it seems like a night where anything could happen.
Heh…I dislike those too, rigs. They always show up in places where they just get in the way. I should probably look for mine tomorrow and pull them up too.
Sounds like a fun place to visit, Tigs.
Glad you had a safe trip back, FCM. on the trailer.
Well, I didn’t really make it outside today, except to go to Whole Foods. I do have pretty much all of my kitchen cupboards reorganized. Need to clean above the cupboards and wash everything that’s stashed decoratively above them; I’m going to leave that for next weekend, I think.
Also baked bread. It’s not quite as good as I’d like it to be, but I know that I’ll get there with a couple more tries. I haven’t baked bread regularly in about 20 years. I’m making 1/2 batches because I go through about one loaf/week and I want to be able to make different varieties.
I’m hoping to get to my taxes tomorrow night. I want to garden during the day.
I’ve decided that the shrubs in front of my house are going this year. They’re arbor vitae and they’ve gotten too big to look good (they completely flop out when there’s even medium-heavy snow). Need to think about what to replace them with before I pull them out, though.
I’m half-watching the Kansas-UNC game. Not sure why.
I should probably consider wandering off to beddie bye.
We had a good Booster Club Food drive, we raised $1500 in 5 hours. That lets the Food Bank buy $12,000 in food!. No date tonight, so I can hang with my efriends.
Welcome back, FCM, glad you didn’t lose a nut <snerk>
I should plant some flowers in the box on my front window sill next weekend.
I just found out something this weekend that depresses me, but the more cynical side of me finds amusing in a somewhat dark way. Apparently, Minister’s Lad introduced Victorian Heroine to That Guy, back when they were in college. (I always assumed that Minister’s Lad only ever knew Victorian Heroine as That Guy’s girlfriend.) And Minister’s Lad had a thing for Victorian Heroine, but it never really came to anything because she and That Guy hooked up and started going out.
I can’t imagine what Minister’s Lad must have felt when he made his move on me and I told him I was still hung up on That Guy.
I live in a fucking dime romance novel. (This is the part that amuses me. That I’m living out a cheesy narrative.) I’m not sorry I yelled at That Guy yesterday. I only wish I’d slapped him for good measure.
Morning all. Real life kept me super-busy over the weekend, getting ready for someone’s birthday today! So I haven’t really had time to do much other than skim the last page.
I will say however Haze, that your life sounds like the sort of Mills & Boon / Harlequin novel that I would read in my lunch-hour and quite enjoy! I just hope you get the happy ending you want!
Happy First Birthday HRH!!!
HRH very much likes her first birthday present - a new choo-choo train, which has a variety of button and levers that make train noises when you push or pull them! She also got some new books, a plush baby-doll and some new clothes from Grandma and Grandad. I have a couple more things at home for [del]her[/del]me to open for her later at the party. I am at work, but will be leaving at lunch-time to go home and have a little family party this afternoon with hubby’s family - vanilla cake with butter cream icing for the birthday girl, plus a cute little Pooh-Bear “1” candle for the cake! I will post pics later, once I have uploaded them. I will also make a video and try to figure out how to create a YouTube account to show you all the festivities.
In other news, SiL accepted whatshisname’s proposal (apparently, she knows him from work), and they now need to set a date for signing the wedding contract - probably a couple of weeks from now, but I imagine they won’t plan for the party and honeymoon until July or August maybe. I know September is out, because it’s Ramadan then!
**Dotty **-- I’m not sayin’ nutt’n until I get some photographic proof…
…
Aww, hell with it; I’m such a sop for kidlets…
Happy First, HRH!!!
At work. But only until 2 PM. At which time I’m going to J’lem with Special Teen. Parent-Teacher meetings for the second semester today!
Envy me…
**FCM **-- re the trailer! Glad you made it!
**Flutter **-- I’ll trade you one (1) Israeli April (As Is; I make no promises of usability or infact livability; several 30+ deg. days that feel like walking into an oven that Og forgot to turn off included in deal) for one (1) Canadian April. Deal null and void if sufficient amount of snow not supplied by Canadian Party to the agreement.
**Rigs **-- nice flowers I’m glad I don’t have to maintain a garden – I can barely keep the little plant I have on my desk at work alive!
**Haze **-- Sometimes I wish I could go 20 years back and lead an exciting life like I imagine you do. No, actually, I’m not going to go ahead and say that then I read your posts and change my mind… I really would go back and do it, crises and all. As crazy as it seems to you now, you’ll look back and miss these days in 20 years when you’re “all growed up” and settled down. So live it up while you can
Morning all! We had snow last night! How exciting is that? It’s been really mild all week with lots of sun, then yesterday it turned cold and windy. We were out last night to see Dreadzone at the Little Civic Bar in town, it’s a small venue so there weren’t many people there but the size of the place makes it a great stage for a band. Lots of singing and dancing…and the odd vodka or two. Afterwards we headed over to the Posada for a last drink because we’ve not been in there for a while, it was unusually quiet there too.
We just got home as the snow started to fall and by the time I got up this morning we’d had about 50cms already. It’s now sunny and starting to melt, but the weatherman says more is on the way. What fun.
I’m planning on a day of doing very little. I have a pile of books to read and that seems like an excellent plan for a snowy Sunday.
Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ here. Today is brunch Sunday. I’m takin’ a ‘nanner puddin’. What? When I made the ‘nanner puddin’ to take to the dinner party Friday night I made one for today too. Those Food Network shows where they make up all this stuff ahead of time for later in the week would be proud of me.
Glad you made it home safe MOOOOOOM. Loose nut? I see doggio has taken care of the obligatory <snerk> there.
BioTigs that sounds like a great place y’all went to.
Haze just be careful. Living in a dime store novel can quickly turn into living in a soap opera. Just so you’ll know if this is happening to ya, I present, The Top Ten Signs You Are Living In A Soap Opera.
Ok, off to infuse more caffiene and make some brekkies. I think I’ll do some scrambled aigs, bacon, grits and toast. Sounds good to me!
I’m glad someone didn’t let me down! I figured that post about ball and nut would bring out the perv in someone. (and **swampy ** snuck in while I was composing and watching the Biography show about the Monkees…)
It was wunnerful sleeping in my own bed last night, even with snoring dogs and bed-hogging cat and somewhat restless spousal unit. I made it to 6:40, so that was great. It’s raining now, so I see a day of laundry ahead.
We have to move our boat today, too, so if the rain doesn’t stop, it’s going to be a soggy evolution. Glad to be home, despite that.
It was a bad night for sleeping here, I guess. I’m still tired but my back was hurting too much to stay in bed anymore. I guess I’ll continue pricing out stuff for awhile and then take a nap.
