Yes, the Serbian place is the one that was written up on roadfood. And it’s been on a couple food network shows. KT is from the Milwaukee area, but I’m from Upstate NY. So this whole “the Midwest isn’t just a flyover” is new to me.
More ethnic food news tomorrow but for now… I have to go home and actually make dinner! I’m going to try risotto with brown arborio rice tonight. We’ll see how it turns out!
That would be Pie, tarra. I’ve only seen updates on facebook when I’ve wandered over there. Haven’t seen her here or on Fathom.
But I wanted the leftover custard desserts. I ***love ***creme brulee/Crema Catalana.
Hope it turns out you didn’t miss the exam, Moonie. Otherwise, throw yourself on the mercy of the prof.
Yayyyyyyyyy for Nava!!! I’ll bet that will be fun.
We went to an awesome Nepalese restaurant in Evanston IL, when I was nearby for work the other day. Really yummy lamb appetizer as well as some traditional Indian food and other Nepalese stuff I’ve forgotten.
Gotta get out to plant stuff. It’s supposed to start raining tomorrow, so I want stuff in the ground or in pots so I know where I have gaps.
Thisis an outstanding recipe, IMHO. I didn’t have minced garlic, so I had to use garlic powder, and I didn’t have green onions, so I just thin-sliced a small yellow onion. Still, it was very yum! I am stuffed! I served it with buttered pasta (didn’t have enough angel hair to serve it over that) and thick slices of very red 'maters. Plus some leftover baked beans that I needed to get out of the fridge… Anyway, it was a good supper. The dishwasher is running and I’m working hard on digesting.
We got a visit before dinner - a roving band of Jehovah’s Witnesses. **FCD **sent them on their way. Too bad he hadn’t been butchering something when they showed up… <insert evil smiley here>
I’m about to resume knitting posture - with luck, I’ll have the 4th cap finished and I can send them all to **MamaTigs **this weekend. Then I can start on the kids’ afghan. It’s a Celtic knot pattern, to be rendered in Kelly Green. The pattern is very complex - nothing I can’t handle, but lots and lots of things going on - it’ll be a real challenge till I figure it out well enough to know where I am.
Of course, making an afghan in warm weather isn’t the smartest thing. I made my very first one during a summer many many years ago - criminy, it was almost 40 years ago!!
Ahh. Better. It was one of Those Days. There’s a [del]bottle[/del] glass of wine with my name on it.
MamaTigs says to say hi; she is totally swamped with work again and while she is making lots of nice money she has no time to stop by here. She’ll be back.
I need to decide what to make for dinner now. I’m not particularly ambitious, especially since it’s just **Mr. Taters **and I. Both of the kids are at work until 9:00 p.m.
Apparently the class decided they didn’t want another exam, so… There was no additional exam!!! starts breathing again
And what’s more, the professor has decided that:
(a) If you already have an A in the class, you’re excused from the final!
(b) If you get an A on the final, you automatically get an A for the semester!
Depending on how grades are weighted, and whether he neglects that one quiz I bombed as an outlier (like he said he would at the start of the semester), and whether he adjusts grades to reflect the fact that HW and Quizzes were supposed to be 20% of our semester grade but we’ve only had one HW assignment and two quizzes, and whether he scales grades cuz a lot of people apparently did craptastically on the first exam, and roughly 3.2 billion other things, I may qualify for (a). Certainly my exam grades are high enough - I got a 92 and a 96 on the two exams we’ve had so far.
As things stand now, I’m right on the edge of having an A, just a hair under 90%… Prof is going to calculate my grade (hopefully including the final, adjusted scores and weights) and email me tonight to let me know if I’m exempt from the final. The stress is killing me, though! I’m so close and it’s all going to come down to how he decides to weight our grades, and more specifically, how much of our final grade comes from those two quizzes and one homework and whether he drops that outlier quiz.
I can probably qualify for (b) too, but I’ll have to study my tail off to master vector fields in time for the exam.
Is it bad that I think the Jehovah’s Witnesses are fun? They call here every now and then, and me and Mr. Lissar battle for who gets to talk to them. (Smug annoyingness) We both know rather more about the Bible and theology and philosophy then the poor missionaries do, and they get all muddled talking to us.
Quiet day. Mr. Lissar’s been at work since seven, and should be home in ten minutes or so. We’re going to collapse after that.
I’ve never had Serbian or Tibetan food. They both sound yummy. We buy the Bulgarian and Turkish red pepper pastes (ajvar and pindjur and stuff). They make good pasta sauce.
Yup–I’m on for Iceland in June. Just booking the trip was enough to scare Worm the Red out of the country for several years–he has moved to Sweden. If I make plans for Sweden, no doubt he’ll hightail it Asia. I have a profound effect on men.
I talked to my father’s cousin (who went to Iceland last year). She raved about it, but you must understand, she went on a tour that included a French chef. I’m looking at stale rolls and peanut butter in the hotel room…
I don’t argue with the JH’s, LiLi. I just smile real big and say, “NO THANK YOU!” and 99.9% of them wish me well and go away. This older white guy last year (with a very young black guy) started to harangue me about evangelizing (I’m against it; obviously, he’s for it!), though. I told the young black dude to think it out for himself, which made Old White Dude leave, pronto. Heh.
I was with a friend in London and she suddenly developed a craving for Creme Brulee, resulting in us wandering all over the city in search of some. She lost her sweater in the process but we did find some in the end. Yay us.
Congrats on Scotland, Nava! I’d love to go back there to study.
I’ll “volunteer” for the next MMP, then. If y’all don’t mind it being up a bit early - I have a meeting Monday afternoon so it will have to be up Monday morning my time.
Morning all. Congrats on getting into school/college/university Nava!
HRH continues her early-morning wake-up streak and I’m starting to wonder if (given her overnight toilet-training last Friday) she’s waking up because she’s done a wee. It’s the only logical reason, as her cold is gone (unlike mine) and recent trips to the playground of an afternoon should have left her tired enough to sleep through. I thought most kids spent a while getting used to being “day-trained” before we had to move on to being dry at night? Do I need to schedule an urgent trip to the furniture store to buy a “big girl bed” and start taking her to the toilet in the middle of the night? Any mothers have some advice for an exhausted Dotty?
Most of my college teachers did that, only in our case you just (“just”) needed to have a pass grade from the three partials (plus lab where applicable). Mind you, for some courses the average time required in order to get a pass grade was 2-3 years…
Glad you had good news exam-wise. Watching you makes me feel old, but I’ll probably be as rollercoastery next year
Dad thought the JW were the neatest invention since Thee Shalt Not Murder Morons. He loved inviting them in and debating them to tiny bits. Someone should have told them Thee Shalt Not Accept Invitations Into The Houses Of Jesuit-Seminar Graduates. Dad studied at Xavier Castle, back when it still was the Jesuit’s minor seminar, along with his three brothers and like every man in his family for several centuries; he was an ordained deacon although he didn’t work as one. The castle is where Don Francisco de Jaso y Azpilcueta was born and from where he got his nickname, the name “Francisco” being very common: Francis Xavier. When Dad studied there, if you decided you wanted to become a Jesuit Priest upon graduation you moved to Loyola - yes, the farm where Ignatius was born, only of course it doesn’t much look like a farm any more.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. Just sayin’ howdy cause soon I need to purtify. Last night was spend the night night and we’re goin’ for brekkies at that paragon of fine dinin’ known as Three Squares Diner.
Can someone tell me why VWife would get the idea in her head that feeding kittens at 3 AM is a good idea? Follow that up with TV on and blaring, and all the lights, and an emdless parade of dogs deciding I have to take them out for their midnight constitutionals. I didn’t get back to sleep, even with adding an extra half hour to the alarm clock.
Now she’s torked at me because I’M grouchy.:dubious:
Yay for Moonie’s exam! And congrats to Nava on Scotland!
I’m up, partially caffeinated, and at work. Happy Hump Day! Feeling a little less wore out … huh, at least I didn’t have dogs waking me in the middle of the night to go out to the bathroom! Poor Bbbbobbio! Good luck to the Caps tonight, btw. I know Doggio won’t be sending them any lucky thoughts though. LOL
Just had a long text conversation with my nephew in Indianner. He fell last night, and probably busted his right arm. He’s going for x-rays this morning.
I made sure to ask him if a cast will interfere with his sex life.
