waves hello to Haze Hey there stranger! Glad to hear things are going so wonderfully with the Irishman. I am incredibly jealous of your globe-trotting ways.
I’ve had experience with pets peeing on the bed a few times… in fact, when The Boy and I first started dating, Ariel the Wondercat expressed her displeasure with the interloper by peeing on him in the middle of the night. Twice. On the other hand, I knew he was a keeper because he was very good-humoured about it.
BooFae, you know the pet rule also applies to tattoos, right? Make with the pix!
Nice beard, doggio… it’s starting to fill out nicely.
Bookkeeper, I must admit I’m a bit skeptical about bacon vodka. I once had the misfortune of getting a beef-flavoured martini due to a mixup at the bar (they put tomato consomme in my drink instead of raspberry puree)… can’t see a bacon-flavoured martini being much of an improvement on that experience.
Ah, lessee…rosie and spicey, may I suggest Puppy Uppers? Okay, maybe not. I’m taking Folic Acid as recommended in my Thyroid research. I am feeling maybe a tiny bit more energetic. Also, I am back to the treadmill five times a week. Finally, cutting out as much prepared food as possible. If nothing else, maybe I’m putting the brakes on further damage.
boofae, must see pics.
bookie, that vodka would probably be sweet for Bloody Marys.
I’m sure I forgot something but I better actually get to work.
It may be heresy to admit, but I can’t stand creme brulee. But I don’t like custard (other than the frozen kind). It’s a texture thing and the frozen-ness hides the weird texture. The brulee doesn’t.
It’ll take me a while to write up descriptions of all the wonderful ethnic food, moonie, but I did see your question, and I will respond. You should look for little ethnic restaurants near you - the kind owned by a family with the grandmother still helping out in the kitchen. They often don’t have much in the way of ambiance - usually paper napkins and old tables - but the food is excellent and usually inexpensive for what you get.
Busy at work, but we’re on track to be done by 5. No late night for me tonight! Fingers crossed that that remains true.
I’m going to be returning to Scotland at the end of the summer to spend one year in school
In a year and a half, whenever someone comes in asking “is it too late to start college at 30?” I’ll be able to hit them with the university degree I got at 42
Our favorite: Tibetan. A lot of curries, but with slightly different flavors than Indian or Thai curries. They have little dumplings called momos, which are similar to Chinese steamed dumplings (i.e. not pot stickers). They use goat and yak. Very hearty dishes. The place that we go to has AMAZING okra curry. I’d never had okra before, but theirs is not slimy at all, just slightly sweet and nutty with a texture kind of like a sauteed bell pepper. Sort of. Really good and we go there at least every couple months and take everyone who comes to visit because it’s so good.
Serbian. Sort of a cross between German/Polish types of foods and Greek. Which makes sense given Serbia’s location. So there are the burekswhich I mentioned earlier. And KT makes a Serbian spread, which is roasted eggplant and roasted red bell peppers and garlic and spices and stuff. They also have stuffed grape leaves, like a Greek restaurant would. And some meat stew like dishes. I haven’t tried anything other than the burek because they’re so good and we get there so infrequently that when we go, that’s what I want.
Gotta get back to work. More later.
ETA: YAY NAVA!!! WOO!
Yay Nava! throws confetti See? That Belgian job didn’t work out because The Powers That Be had earmarked you for something much, much better.
All this talk of Tibetan food and creme brulee now has me craving both. Preferably not at the same time, but beggars can’t be choosers… I wouldn’t turn up my nose if someone showed up with beef momos and a vanilla-bean creme brulee right about now. And possibly some of the delicious green bean and tofu dish that my local Tibetan place makes, which is chock-full of tomato and oregano.
Sadly, since the odds of that are pretty much zilch, I’m settling for leftover chili with a cornmeal muffin and lukewarm coffee. Mmmmm.
(taxi, please feel free to send all undesired custard-based desserts over this way… I’ll make sure they’re disposed of in a quick, efficient and environmentally-friendly fashion)
I thought we had an exam in Calc III today. I’m not prepared but I think I have the double and triple integrals down pat at least. But that’s not the problem. I opened an email from the teacher just now which contained our Final Exam study guide, hoping to get some idea of which sections of Chapter 14 (Vector Fields) to study for the exam later today (Which is not the final. Final is Thursday. Yeah, as I understood the schedule, we have an exam today and the final Thursday.)
The email read as follows:
If we’re discussing examples in class then we clearly are not taking an exam.
Now, the panic: I missed Calc last Thursday to go to my Dynamics professor’s office hours. I’m seriously worried I had the day wrong in my head and the exam was actually Thursday, not Tuesday.
So now it’s basically down to degrees of bone-age. If the exam is today, I’m really boned due to unpreparedness. If it was Thursday I’m COMPLETELY boned on account of missing the exam.
Pic as promised. As you can see, that is definitely my foot unless I’ve taken to wearing shoes in a very odd way! Sorry it’s not great, I am in a bit of a rush and the camera battery has just died on me so think yourself lucky you’re getting a pic at all.
Yay, Nava - you just couldn’t stay away from us, could you?
Yay for Nava!! And just remember when you graduate, that if you’er just finishing college, then you’re young. At least at heart
Hi, Boo!!
Hope you didn’t miss your exam, Moonie. And even if you did, there’s usually a way to take these kinds of things into account, at least if the prof is at all accommodating… if indeed you missed it, go talk to him/her about it. Worst case, you’re in the same jam you started out in. More likely case, something can be worked out.
And good luck on your exams, in any case!
It’s Haze! And she’s volunteered to do the next MMP whether she realizes it or not!
Nice tat BooFae. Ol’ y’all know who and I have talked about gettin’ tats on our right biceps. The combo of layin’ down the bucks and ouchie needles kind of scares me though.
Yay Nava!!!
Dindin shall be steak, baked N.OT., sallit and rolls. Ol’ y’all know who requested steak. I almost stopped at the store and got some spare guts but didn’t.
Shrimp scampi for supper - what should I serve for sides? In fact, does anyone have a website that has menu suggestions for entire meals? All I seem to find are recipes. I wants someone to suggest entree, sides, dessert, whatever.
Stoopit squirrels dug up a petunia and a moss rose from one of my planters. Damned rodents!! They must die!!!
**doggio **- I approve of the facial hair. Can’t wait to see it all filled out.
Moonie–go see the prof. And good luck. That is everyone’s recurrent nightmare, come to life…
I’ve been busy in the yard today; the flowers are all planted (all the ones I’m doing this year–I’m not doing the front beds because we don’t have the money). TH is in Canada with Daughter for 3 days. I work the rest of this week, but Mother Nature smiled upon me and made the past 2 days heavenly. It’s perfect outside. About 70, light breeze, low humidity, sunshine. Birds are chirping; the grass is green. Life is good.
Honestly, I just linked 'cause it’s BACON! My hard liquor of choice is rum, the blacker the better. Arrrrrrrrh! :smack: (<-- pirate who has just qualified for black eyepatch smiley)
I love conference calls where everyone plays Hot Potato. I’m sure everyone has been in one of these:
A: “So I know this is a problem, but it’s not my problem. Clearly, this needs to be handed in B’s shop.”
B: “Yes, but I can’t put together a solution until I get input from C.”
C: “…and I can’t provide that input until I know what D is doing with XYZ.”
D: “I don’t do XYZ, though. That’s A’s job!”
A: “OK, so let’s create an Action Item for E, because he’s not here and I think it’s his problem.”
And round and round and round it goes.
Of course, the problem with these meetings is that I inevitably end up holding the bloody potato when all is said and done. Well… except for the times when it explodes and we all end up with mashed potato on our faces.
Mmmm… potato.
Actually, I take it back. Mmmmmm… RUM.
ETA: Nice ink, BooFae! I’ve been toying with the idea of getting a small design on my feet, but I worry about it being hard to hide when I want to get all pretty and dressed-up in strappy little shoes (at least the one on my back can be covered up if I want to look ladylike).
swampus, you’d be surprised at how little a tattoo hurts. But then again, we all know you’re a big ol’ softie whereas I’m all tough and thick-skinned.
Oooph, Swampus beat me to it - but two down and three to go. LOL
I do approve/like the tat, BooFae, and like Rigs, I don’t usually like them. I still shudder at my son’s arm, although admit that it is tasteful if large. Rigs, are you still going to Iceland in June, btw?!
Squirrels are rats with fluffy tails, FCM - and their teeth are sharp, they can gnaw through a walnut, you know!
Loved hearing about the cuisines in Milwaukee! I think I’ve read about the Serbian one on roadfood.com. Have you ever had a butter burger, btw? I think that was KeithT who hails from Milwaukee–or are you from there also, Taxi? And Muppet, you’re always making something that sounds delicious, like that bacon ice cream! I had to LOL, though, about your cat expressing her disapproval of TheBoy at first. Glad she finally accepted him.
And I almost forgot about Haze! I’m tarragon tarragonia on facebook, dear, btw. Your vacation plans sound faboo, and I’m anxious to see the pics of Crete!
Anyone see Jamie around? Her SDMB name slips my mind at the moment! I see her on facebook, though, just wanted to let her know I’m thinking of her!!
