This cracked me up: “High-Velocity Cranial Trout Applications” - thanks, Moonie. (I liked the ziplock files, too.)
Added the Fake Krab Alfredo to the recipe blog.
And Muppet, I think it should be maple bacon brittle.
::waves at Shelli and high-fives her on the great grades::
Sorry you’re still feeling under the weather, rosie. I hate to ask, but have they checked out your thyroid? Don’t really have any suggestions for more energy.
Yeah, there are parts of the midwest that don’t have as much variety as others, but the medium and large cities tend to offer a whole lot. You can find just about anything you want in Columbus. There’s even an association of independent restaurants; these are mostly high-end bistro-ey places, but all of the ones I’ve been to on this list are very good. We also have a whole lot of ethnic restaurants. Although I’m not sure if we have any Serbian restaurants. There isn’t as much variety as in Chicago, but you can get some very good food.
Pretty long day at work, although I got to go out for lunch. One of the local restaurants is serving a very nice spinach salad: spinach, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries, toasted pine nuts, a mild feta, and a light vinaigrette that’s slightly sweet and appears to have cream in it. Yum.
Guess I should go out and water some plants. And maybe get on with some knitting.
I know there were more things I was going to respond to but…it’s Monday.
I’m mad at the USPS right now. My resume never got to the college and the positions have been filled. I would be filled with more grr, but I just had a dinner of swampy’s Super-Easy Chicken-n-Dumplings and snap peas and broccoli and the tasty has overridden the grr.
I was born on Mothers’ Day, thus qualifying my Mum just under the wire, and this was one of the years in which my birthday and Mothers’ Day coincide again.
One sister took me out for steak on Friday before we went to my games club meeting. We had my mother and father, two sisters, one SO, and a nephew for supper on Saturday and exchanged Mothers’ Day and birthday gifts and gave Mum her Christmas gift (she spends winters in Florida, had just returned a couple of weeks ago and lives out of town, so no opportunity earlier).
Sunday was supper with my wife’s mother and sister, and our daughter and her SO. More gift exchanges, and we played a game of Aye, Dark Overlord! with daughter and SO. My wife doesn’t usually play, but she was drawn in after watching us play the first round and had a ball coming up with involved excuses as to why she wasn’t to blame for the failure of the latest task set by the Dark Overlord for his incompetent minions. Daughter was happy to have been carded by the cops in a bar on Friday night - she’s 30!
Spent a good part of the weekend working on web pages for the games club, then got into work today and spent most of the day updating web pages for our online manual.
Oh, and I see your bacon ice cream and raise you Bakon Vodka!
Alastair Moonsong Okay you win with the before dawn’s early light thing. And yes The Used is awesome!!! Bert McCraken is on my list of future husbands along with Travis Barker.
swampbear Yay! for mom!!! As for the nickname thing I was once called Chirp at a resturant I worked at. The head grill cook was also named Cricket and it got confusing so he and his girlfriend started calling me Chirp.
VunderBob I’m seeing the arrows there but still can’t figure out Jiminey to Minnie. It does kind of make me smile though!
Did Red end up having to go? Poor guy. I know I know he’s been a handful and if I remember correctly not yours to originally deal with.
Everybody is saying don’t worry about length so I guess it is true size doesn’t matter!
The Krab Alfredo stuff sounded so good and I’m not a huge fan of seafood stuffs. Also I don’t ever recall ever having Crem Brulee? Is it that amazing?
I really need to get my hands of that game Bookkeeper!!
And **dogbutler/B] at least you weren’t in the bed at the time. My wonderful kittyboy Riley decided to pee on my bed on Mother’s Day morning while I was still in it sleeping soundly. Apparently that was his warm and thoughtful gift to me.
I’m quickly figuring out the nicknames. I’m taking things one step at a time though trying to keep people and events straight and then tackling the use of nicknames.
Okay, I’m up … way early. I’m caffeinating, though, and will probably head to work early.
Oh boy, was I crashed last night! And hey, that stir fry sounded good, Moooom. Rosie, wish I knew what to tell you to take; I’m looking at the same thing myself and I’m already taking thyroid meds. Just polished off half a bagel and it was pretty tasty, so tummy isn’t rumbling here any more.
Happy Tuesday all … soon it will be two down, three to go!
Drive by!
Snowed under at work for the rest of the week… busybusybusy!
**Shelli **-- Yay on being an A Student Now hang out with us a but more, eh? All work and no play makes Joanie a dull girl (sez Johnny, the dull boy… :o)
**Rigs **-- hi
**Spaz **-- karma dictates you will end up with a better position than you could have got with that college.
Everybody else – yays, boos, trouts as appropriate. Hugs and gropes if you’re female
Hello everyone! Awesome cars, Rebo. The Irishman would have loved that parade; he is obsessed with things with engines.
Sorry for being absent the past few weeks. I haven’t uploard my Crete pics yet (except on Facebook, but they’re only visible to people I’ve friended) but I will soon, I promise. Maybe I’ll volunteer for an MMP soon.
Work has been a bit chaotic lately (they’ve offered me a promotion to a position I’m not sure I want) but I am super excited about this summer - the Irishman and I are spending three weeks in Thailand, and then I’ll spend a week with his family in Ireland after I visit Scottish Darling in Cambridge (and attend Capt. Cheekbones wedding!). We just booked our tickets today. Yay!
If my mother (who is Catalan) heard you doubting the glorious goodness that’s Crema Catalana (its Spanish name), she’d curse you to the hell of People Who Don’t Know What’s Good For Them. It’s like a very soft custard (so soft it can’t stand on its own, so it comes in a cup), with a drizzle of cinnamom over the caramelized top (not liquid caramel poured over, it’s a solid, extra thin layer of caramel created by “burning” the top of the cream).
Now I’m almost hungry. The almost if because I took advantage of Mom being away (she’s visiting the grandparental units) to have some rice noodles, spinach and shrimp stir-fry. Pretty yum although the pinich’n’shrimp were premade and I think it’ll be tons better when you do it properly.
ETA: Aye, Dark Overlord sounds neat-o. I think my 3yo nephew would love being the overlord.
