An Assortment of Danish for the MMP

And why do I expect a future post from someone named Tuber Diva?

Had fun at Disneyland. I tried not to harass Peter Pan too much. (I’ll be posting pictures to FB sooner or later. The guy playing Peter was really cute and really good about staying in character.) But he wouldn’t give me a thimble! (and I think I knew the canon better than he did. )

The weather was perfect and it wasn’t terribly crowded. The only bad line was for the Haunted Mansion, but we got a fast pass and wandered for a while.

Applied for more jobs. I’m left wondering if I should be bothering with cover letters. I never know what to write.

Don’t know what’s different but I know what’s the same. The same is they are all YUCK!!!

Ok, now back to irk.

**Rebo **- very cool about the toys! Are you going to give them away or try to sell them so you can buy other things to give away?

We’ll put them in the kid’s kits.

Also, the other day at the grocery store, when I was buying the 40 pounds of bananas, of course I got questioned as to what they were for.

The grocery bagger mentioned that he has a club at school that likes to do charity work. He was very interested in joining us for a distribution. I gave him the info.

We’re getting a little bit bigger, slowly but surely.

That’s great about the toys, Rebo, and the growing charity.

Congrats on the new job, Nava!

I really don’t know anything about rutabagas/turnips/swedes. Nor do I have any jokes on the subject.

I did buy a boatload of root vegetables over the weekend at the farmers’ market but only carrots, potatoes, and beets. With non-root vegetables brussels sprouts, bell peppers, tomatoes, and probably the last corn of the season added in just to make my bike’s saddle bags that much heavier. It’s a tough time of year to bike to the market when most of what you’re carrying home is root vegetables!

Turnips are good for making Clapshot. What’s really good is to kinda mix clapshot up with colcannon and put cabbage in too, and then mix in chopped green onions when you serve. Well, we think it’s yum.
Pass those donuts over here willya?

Tomorrow is the last farmers’ market in my little town. After that I’ll be reduced to buying inferior corn onna cob (and other stuffs) from the grocery store.

GT, I just finished the Julia Child book. I found it very interesting, especially as I was a child during Eisenhower’s presidency and remembered a lot of what they chatted about in between discussing cooking and such. Julia comes across as pretty much what one would expect if they ever watched her on TV, warm and witty, and a bit distracted. Avis seemed a bit of a snob. Likable, but a snob. At my age, and growing up in my family, I’m inclined to be more understanding of that sort of thing.

Helpful hint for today: Subway’s pulled pork sandwich isn’t nearly as good as it looks in the ads, and is WAY overpriced for what it is. In fact, I’m about done with Subway’s sandwiches altogether.

Now I have to go over to the real estate office. Someone downloaded Chrome onto the computer at the front desk and made it the default browser. Wifey was not happy as they have had a lot of trouble with unwanted stuff just appearing on the ‘common area’ computers. Anyway, I deleted it Saturday, but forgot to change the ‘default browser’ to IE or whatever, so I hafta go do that. Sheesh.

And lastly, I give you The Advanced Rutabaga Studies Institute, which, believe it or not, is just up the road a piece from us.

Sorry, no Swedes here. I do have a couple of Norwegians hanging around somewhere.

Turnips are good if you get them when they’re fresh (very white/purple). If you let them sit in the ground forever they get all woody and gross.

This is my six-day workweek. makingthebestofitmakingthebestofit

Home from irk. Dindin is leftover couch chikin from Sattidy and a green sallit. I’m lazy today.

Yay for the new gig Nava!

Yay on the charity Rebo!

Why would one even need much less want to study rutabagas? ICK!!! However, colcannon is nummy.

Spaz turnips are best left to rot for all of eternity.

Daughter stopped by to pick up some mail, and she stayed for supper. Chicken-n-dumplins - quite yum, and enough left over for lunch tomorrow. Yay!

I got some stuff done today - some laundry, some dishes, some vacuuming, some afghanning… A good retirement day, methinks.

More things Danish-ish

Shortly after i signed off this morning, I heard a big bang. I thought a kitty had knocked something big off the counter. No, It was just a house exploding. It happened at about four miles from here. A gas line ruptured. Two people were badly hurt, one may not survive. Not a nice way to start the day.

Holy hell! Whenever I hear stories like this, I am glad that we don’t have gas lines in my area. Of course, when I WANT gas (cooking, heating, all that nice civilized stuff), it annoys me that I can’t have it. I hate oil but at least it’s highly unlikely to blow up my house.

It took 2 naps but I finally finished my nutrition homework. Both discussions were interesting and the quiz was super easy (because of previous classes I’ve taken).

It really is quite interesting. Actually, all my classes are interesting this semester, even Psychology (Drugs, Society, and Human Behavior).

I love how all my classes tie together. Bio, Anatomy, and Chemistry are making Nutrition a breeze. Social Problems and Social Change is actually helping me in Nutrition and Psych-drugs. Psych-drugs is helping in Nutrition. Some of these classes were taken just for the hell of it (actually, all but Bio were just for the hell of it) and I’m really glad about the ones I’ve been choosing to fill electives. The only class this semester that doesn’t tie into any of the others is Spanish and it’s also the only class I’m taking because I have to take it.’

Something I’ve noticed this semester is the greatly increased quality of my classmates’ discussion posts. Last fall, spring, and summer were filled with posts like, “I so agree with you!” Now, all of my online classes are FILLED with well thought out and interesting posts. I’m actually having trouble keeping up with them. People aren’t limiting themselves to the mandatory post and 2 responses. I can’t get over the change in just one year. I guess the people who make it past freshman year are the ones who decide to get serious about the whole thing.
I have killed 5 mosquitoes since noon and I’ve also spent half of that time sleeping. I think they’re all dead now. I also have about 10 new mosquito bites. Little bastards. The last one took 6 slaps over the course of an hour before I finally killed him. I know I was hitting him. He must have been the Superman of mosquitoes.

I have no clue what I’m going to make for dinner tonight. I’m so very much not in the mood to cook. Might be a good night for grilled tuna and ham sammiches. Hmm, actually, I think it’s a perfect night for grilled tuna and ham sammiches.

Oh well, time to get back to the homework. I have to do my weekly discussion on drugs now. This week it’s the history of drug regulations. I wonder if we’re ever going to get to the psychology part. I hope not.

No rutabaga jokes to-mor-ee. VWife and I are running back to Cottonfield County in the morning to check the old homestead, deliver stuff to favorite ex-neighbors including Fred, then we head up to Suffolk in the afternoon to her bone-cracker to have her nuts and bolts tightened. It’s 4 hours one way, so we won’t be home until bed time.

Y’all carry on without me.

Hi all! Been out of commission for a couple days. Maybe I shouldn’t post this since my whining about a pathetic injury last week (bent fingernail backwards) apparently caused the klutz fairy to visit me.

I managed to fall up the stairs Saturday. Caught my heel wrong or something. Next thing I know I’m faceplanted on the concrete. At first I was mad because I thought I had torn my good jeans (I hadn’t). Then I started realizing that I was actually injured. Bruised both knees quite badly, still picking gravel out of the cuts in my palms, and apparently bumped my head.

My dear, sweet boyfriend carried me back inside and proceeded to stick close by me for the next 24 hours. He had an autocross race he was supposed to run in Sunday but he stayed home to make sure I was ok. What a sweetie!

I’m a little better today… but darn it all that hurt!

Belated “YAY” on the new job to Nava!

So, how does a jicama fit into the turnip/rutabaga/parsnip discussion?

Fly-by to let y’all know I haven’t forgotten about thangs. I made a big pile of monkey bread Sunday night since I doubled my standard bread recipe, had to do sum’in with that dough. It’s almost gone now, thought, so jump in the time machine of your choice and have some.

Anyway, I am post-Ambien which reminded me that I needed to get on here and post, even if I am having a little bit of hallucinations.

Will read and update later, lotsa big (for me, relatively humdrum activities for everyone else) things have been happening,

So, kisses, hollers, wet willies, boiling oil, hugs, pets, and thumbtacks in chairs all 'round, until I can read the thread.

Yes! A student who realizes that Chemistry makes Biochemistry logical! Hallellujah!

Sorry, flashback to all those people whinning “but why do I have to learn this shit?”

Why are you saying that Chemistry is all about shit?
Where’s the love for **In-**organic Chem…?

I say that a lot, but not in reference to Chemistry. How can anyone not see that they’re connected?

I say that about Intro to Psych and Intro to Sociology and Intro to the Liberal Arts - in other words, the classes I only took they’re required.

What amazes me are the nursing, rad tech, and dental hygiene students who don’t understand why they have to take Biology. Boggles my mind it does.

Do not, do not, do not get me going!

Cell Bio is the prereq for the micro class I teach. I have so many students who don’t get why they need that class first. Really? Really?
