What’s even weirder is that in our house, it’s the opposite. I wear blue or black jeans almost exclusively. I have a variety of tops for work, but I prefer those of the t-shirt variety. And I have several cardigans for the cooler weather. And a couple of fleece jackets. And 3 or 4 pairs of shoes.
My spousal unit has crap in 2 closets. Last weekend, we went to Penney’s so he could buy 3 more sweaters. He’s got bowling shirts (Thanks to Two and a Half Men), turtlenecks, shirts with his work logo embroidered on them, and a few hundred others. He’s very picky about his clothes. I’m content to be more or less color-coordinated with all the appropriate bits covered.
Just got a quote for a new roof and gutters - just over $12K. I’ll be getting another quote on Saturday. And I’ll probably find a third company - that should be enough for a fair comparison, ya think? I’m also getting quotes for new windows, and siding, and I think that’s all for now. This is stuff we hope to get done over the next 2-3 years. Certainly before we retire.
Yanno, I almost wish a tree would fall on the roof so insurance would replace it!
Supper was sketties, and was yum. Dishwasher is washing dishes. I’m about to assume the knit position again. Back to work tomorrow. This 4-day break was good for me. I really needed it.
Was this the Mumper wave of portrait gallery updates? There were about 6 of us added. And there are still a few missing… Nice pictures, all. I don’t think I’d seen that picture of you and the Mr., mmmm.
I’m about done with laundry, have nearly finished uploading photos, have organized my CDs, did a load of dishes and put them away, finished glove 1 (I just had a few rows left on the thumb, but they were particularly annoying; they’re done now and I’ve started glove 2), sorted coupons, and a couple more items I’m forgetting.
I’m in favor of retirement as well, taxi. Also, I wouldn’t mind being independently wealthy.
Thanks for the thought, Puggy, unfortunately I’ve tried that site before. It’s great if you aren’t obese and don’t have a pre-existing mental health issue. They’ve got me either way… Even if I lost weight, I’d still be crazy. :D:)
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN Thus beginneth my work week.
gt I got a pm from Arnold Winkelreid requestin’ I add a photo as I’m sure did others. This prompted me to send a link to be uploaded. I’m good at doin’ what I’m told.
CutiePie I’m sure Dopers will have some good ideas for ya.
MOOOOOOM when I bought my first house, I bought it knowin’ the roof would need to be replaced within the next two to three years. Six months later, we had a hailstorm so my homeowner’s insurance did replace the roof minus deductible of course. Want we should invoke the gods of Spring storms to send ya a hailstorm around April?
Swampy, I had a similar PM about the gallery but I don’t have a photo I’d be prepared to share with teh interwebz so I will be remaining anonymous for now.
Last night was busy for me, I came home and sorted laundry which resulted in some ironing getting done. Then I made yummy cottage pie but did that in two stages because I had to make the filling first and then finish it off in the oven with the topping on. I used mashed swede instead of potato because I’d got a swede to use up which I’d cooked and mashed the day before 'cos I am so prepared! Dindins was scoffed with some steamed kale and was declared very yummy, and I have leftovers for tonight after Fat Club.
Today I will be spending my day faffing about with exam scripts and entering marks into a spreadsheet, with a side order of team meeting in about an hour. Yesterday’s point and click training was pointy and clicky but otherwise uninspiring. I don’t mind going on all this training but it would be even better if I could actually use the stuff they insist on cramming into my little head.
Ok, call off the gnomes, or oompa loompas, or whatever creatures ran me over and beat me up during the middle of the night. I must have looked at the clock 10 times and this morning I fell like total ick. I have no energy whatsoever. Ugh.
I only made it with swede because it would wind up 'im indoors, because he’s Scottish and they call it turnip. So as usual we had the swede/turnip argument. No Swiss cheese because that’s not on my diet plan, and no nekkid Italians either, more’s the pity. Besides, if it was a fit nekkid Italian, 'im indoors would be jealous and then he’d sulk and I really can’t be doing with all that fuss.
Okay, I’ll admit it - I’m totally confused as to what BooFae made! What is a swede? What is cottage pie?! LOL Help!
Good morning, up and caffeinating, and very late today. I haven’t even left for work, and normally I’ve been at work for over an hour by now. No energy here either, CutiePie! I’m heading in now, though. Happy Tuesday all!
Oh yeah, I got a PM too … I’m just draggin’ my heels and don’t know if I’m going to provide one. I don’t like the one I’m using on FB as it is. LOL
Swede is a root vegetable that looks like this, you might know it as rutabaga but over here it’s swede. Actually it’s Swedish Turnip, hence the confusion where I call it a swede and 'im indoors calls it turnip because he’s Scottish.
Cottage pie is like shepherd’s pie except it’s made with beef instead of lamb mince. Here’s a recipe that’s not unlike the one I used: cottage pie recipe. Mine had mince, onion, garlic, courgette, carrot, celery, mushrooms, stock, Bovril, herbs and seasoning. Mine was topped with mashed swede, it’s more ‘traditional’ to use mashed potato (n.o.T) but you can use all sorts of things to top it with.
I got the photo summons, too. I sent a photo taken with my computer camera and it is sooooo flattering.
boofae, to me there is a distinct difference in flavor between a rutabaga and a turnip. Rutabagas are nuttier. Therefore, I approve the name swede and will call them such henceforth. I know of Shepherds Pie with hamburger (mince) but not lamb. Also, made with peas rather than carrots. Oh, and some melted cheddar on top. I expect it’s one of those combine-the-leftovers recipes originally. Hmmmm, it’s got me thinking about making some for din-din on Wednesday. nom, nom, nom.
Still below freezing when I got up this morning but we are promised a warming trend by this weekend which will be a holiday weekend (MLK). Yay!
Cool OP, ruble. I heard something about a Santarchy event in Toronto, and given how much fun everyone is having in your photos, you bet your sweet patootie I’m joining in the fun next Christmas.
I get this one all the time, too. I work with policy and user security for just one of the hundreds of different applications MotherCorp uses. I don’t know why your last cell phone bill was so high, nor can I tell you which text messaging package will give you the most bang for your buck… that’s not what I do.
I’m still suffering from the yoga class I went to on Sunday. Obviously, I need to be a little more diligent about my workout schedule, so that I can cut down on the subsequent agony. Owowowowow.
Umph. Caffeinated. Still blurfy, but at least there’s some sun out, which was a nice change from yesterday’s dingy, snowy crap.
I got the request from Arnold as well and dutifully provided. That gallery’s fillin’ up pretty good, but we’re still missing some regs.
And as always happens when I post in the MMP things suddenly get busy at work. Stupid people wanting me to be all productive 'n stuff.
Also, I’ve never heard of them being called swedes. They’re turnips in this part of the world. Swedes are … well, Swedes. The subjects of chefs and bikini teams and meatballs and furniture that takes 3 hours to assemble with a tiny Allen wrench that strips halfway through.
Good morning. I’m here at work after fighting the traffic and rain. I am sick, sick, sick of the traffic around here.
There definitely is a difference between a rutabaga and a turnip. Neither is a vegetable I serve. It’s not that I don’t like them, it’s just that, well, I don’t think about them when I’m at the grocery store.
rigs, if you’re reading, I hope the thumb is better.
Where’s Soapy?
taxi, I would love to be able to retire, or better yet, be independently wealthy. Neither is a reality for me.
It is a glorious evening too, since I have finally [sup]:clouds part and angels sing:[/sup] found a nursery school in our neighbourhood that will take under-3s (i.e. HRH). Not just that, but it is [sup]:clouds part and angels sing:[/sup] dual-language (i.e. English and Arabic) and only costs US$130/month for care from 7:30am to 3:00pm! Hallelujah and Al Hamdulillah!!! Not just that, but she can start tomorrow, when they are going on a field trip to the camel farm and then to the beach to look for seashells and play on the swings! I don’t know who’s more excited - me or HRH! I can finally get HRH away from MIL’s whack-job influence!!! The Housework Fairy is also dancing a little jig of her own, since she no longer has to go to MIL’s house and put up with her sh*t!
Last I heard from her, she had a headache, and was bitching me out for including BRIGHT, BOLDED TEXT in my next response after learning that…
Yes, I’m evil.
That was before 9 EST though – at this point she’s probably trying to survive at work, apparently by avoiding bright, shiny objects such as computer monitors!
