Well, we got new plans for New Years. We had to dump the travel since we need to stick close to home. However our new casino has some good deals going and there is some stuff over the South Side (where Santarchy was) that looks good - so we’re adapting. All in all, however things go, we’re making do fairly fine. If you will pardon the pun on my screen-name - just coppering our bets.
Today is my Friday too. Tomorrow becomes my RDO since Friday is a holiday. So, I’m glad for that.
I think we’re supposed to go to some friends’ house for NYE and stay the night. Hubby seems to think it’s supposed to be Saturday. Now I’m all confused and told him he better find out.
I am looving my Kindle. I’m halfway through the second book I put on there. I’m reading Edward Rutherford’s New York: A Novel. I’m enjoying it, but I think I liked his Sarum and New Forest better. It is pretty cool, though, to see a name from the *New Forest *pop in this book.
I suppose I should dig into my work. Especially since I missed yesterday.
Reports have been confirmed: I am still alive.
Not too much else going on here, really. I’m in TVLand, but I’ll be heading back home sometime today. Then, tomorrow I’ll be headed to PA for some outlet shopping and then to TVLand and then home and then TVLand and then home and then TVLand and then home. Etc, etc… Or something like that. At any rate, lots of miles on my good old car this week.
ETA: ** Ruble**, are you going to your local First Night? We’re most likely going to the one in my town.
More fun will be awaiting me when I get home tonight. My fahrwood people called, and they will be delivering my other cord just about the time I get home. It took me 2+ hours to do the one they brought Saturday.
Happy virtual Firday.
We’re kicking it around as a maybe. We’ve done it a few times in the past since we can basically walk into town. We’ve also done some special events centered around filming for local television.
Where the casino looks attractive right now is its “different” and neither of us actually gambles. About the most the slots can get out of us is $20 if they try real hard and have some game that involves amusement park graphics or farming graphics; we’re around arcades too often for adult arcade games to be real attractive. But the food at the Rivers is pretty fantastic and they have some great specials so ------------ we’ll see.
Early on I was thinking that we might head to Pittsburgh and just sorta hang out *somewhere *around there. But downtown hotels are so expensive and I certainly didn’t want to drive long distance late at night with all the crazy drunks around. That’s why I think we’re going to my First Night. Besides, I LOVE the Akron Civic Theatre and TVMan has never been there before. Heck, I could spend all night just sitting in the lobby. And no, we don’t gamble either. Actually I’ve never even been to a casino that I can remember. It would be fun to go for the other stuff, but, as I said, lodging and transportation issues just don’t make it worth our while.
tarra, I saw a recipe somewhere for a pork loin roast stuffed with red cabbage (aha… here it is!). Maybe that would fit the bill? The whole menu sounds delish.
I’m pretty sure The Angry Russian is making duck confit for her NYE dinner. I guess it pays to have friends who are even bigger food snobs that oneself, no?
gotti, it sounds like you might want to avoid inanimate objects for a couple of days until their murderous intent subsides. It might be a bit of a challenge, of course, but your life just might depend on it.
Anyway, it’s now noon, which means my half-day vacation officially commences. W00T! Off I go to crawl into bed and feel miserable, because The Boy done went and gave me his cold, and I’d really like to feel better in time for tomorrow’s pig-out-fest. Urk.
You know, most people around here have never even heard of First Night. It’s such a good idea! Why doesn’t anyone have it around here??
I’m less grumpy and cranky than yesterday, but still sorta meh overall. My manager already said I can work from home tomorrow so that’ll help. I’ve got a big project right now that really requires concentration… not something that comes easily with all the noise and distraction at work. People keep popping in to my cube to ask questions or I overhear interesting conversations or whatever, and I can’t stay focused on my work. Bleh. Yay for staying home tomorrow!
whatever “grumpy and cranky” you tossed off, I picked up. grumble grumble
Apparently both the **Terrible Twins **have plans for tomorrow night…
(As do we, so not a problem)
On hearing this, my first reaction? “If you drink, don’t drive!”
They’re 13…
(also, they’ve both had enough opportunities to try alcohol that they both know what it’s about, and they have had time to learn that they don’t really like it. At least yet…
And we are both occasional but responsible drinkers – e.g., they have heard me say “no thanks, I have to drive later” to many offers of “another glass of wine?”)
there have been many times in my 20s that it’s a miracle I made it home safely.
Me 523,248,134… And I’m sure they’ll abuse the heck out of some substance or other by the time they finish college… It’s just Human Nature, y’know?
But for now I think they’ll be OK
Howdy Y’all! Survived another day.
Ok, dindin tonight shall be pizza. It was gonna be chicken ‘n dumplin’s but OYKW will just lay down and die if he does not get him some pizza RIGHT NOW accordin’ to him. Hey, he’s buyin’ so it’s all good. Even better, he’s bringin’ it to da cave, so I can stay in sweatpants and a sweatshirt. YAY!!!
When I think back to younger days and all the drinkin’ and well, other stuff, and drivin’, I marvel that I have reached the ripe old age of 55. Especially considerin’ the number of times I woke up at home, apparently havin’ driven myself there, and could not remember how I got there.
I have to work on Firday. So, NYE plans are to be asleep by eight o’clock like usual.
Hi everybody!
I’ve been a MMP slacker. I’ve tried to keep up, but I’ve been reading and napping and watching a lot of TV. I told y’all I’d be a slug on my vacation!
Christmas was good. We had 8 people and 5 dogs. It was madness, and lots of fun! New Year’s Eve morn will be spent making a pot of bean soup with the ham bone from Christmas dinner, and then we’ll spend some time at our bar in the afternoon. We’ll be home well before the crazed drunken revelers will even be on the road. Brilliant! Then we’ll chow down on 15-bean soup and cornbread. New Year’s day will be Prahm Rib, baybee! I got some on sale two weeks ago - 2 two-rib roasts for about $18 total. Such a deal!
Mr Rebo and I got our present to each other the day after Christmas - a new 4 burner propane grill! I already broke it in with a small pork roast. It’s so shiny and new! We’ll give our old beat-up one to my son - he asked for it. Recycling is a good thing. (Mr Rebo cleaned it up real good, and it’s got a full tank of propane, too.)
Hugs and kisses all around. I hope everyone has a safe and happy New Year!
Well, this year is ending with a bang… stoopit work. I was 2.5 hours over tonight. Tomorrow, I’m determined to leave on time, but I’ve got to go in on Sat. And possibly Sun. My stoopit computer choked this afternoon. If it’s not working tomorrow, I’ll have to install myself at someone else’s desk, which I hate. At least I put everything on the network and not just on my PC.
I had some leftover shrimps for supper. I was going to order a hat for FCD, but the stoopit shopping was twich what the hat cost. So, no dice. He’ll look locally.
I got nothing else. My brain is fried. I’m gonna read the funnies, then crash. 2009 sucks.
oooh, Muppet, that recipe does look so good! Thanks, I’ve gotten the pork loin roast and cabbage too, so it’s good to go; I just gotta pick up the cream (I already have cranberries whee!)
Snow/sleet/freezing rain is supposed to come through the metro area starting tonight–alls I can say is if it’s doing anything frozen in the AM, I’ll be staying home, thankyouverymuch! Meatloaf for dinner tonight, tomorrow will be the pork loin roast. Of couse, some black-eyed peas will be on the stove too.
Hugs and kisses for all.
Home from work, Papa Johns is bringing dinner. I finally went and got my mail. I got a Christmas card from a girl I met at the Booster Club Convention in Vegas. I guess I made more of an impression than I thought.
Ruble, there’s casinos in Pittsburgh?
Lunch, I was mixing martinis for myself when I was 12.
BooFae, glad the zombies didn’t get you. Enjoy Scotland.
has anyone seen the dinner fairy?
Nope, 'fraid not rosie. Our dinner will be cooked and served, courtesy of…ME. It’s not like it’s hard. I’m just going to warm up the leftover prime rib soup which TEH YUM!
It’s my Friday and I’m currently enjoying a pear martini. Also yum, but I like the Lemon Drop better.
I had to bring my work computer home. I’ll need to queue up an ad hoc for a report this weekend. I’m also going to try and sneak some work in on a project. I’ll have to do it out of sight of the hubby, though.
Tomorrow evening, we’re going to some friends’ house to celebrate NYE. They’re cooking dinner and dessert. We’ve been instructed to bring pillows, jammies, booze, money (for 99) and ourselves. I’ve just popped off an email to them asking if they’re sure we can’t bring anything else.
I suppose I should think about heating up the soup.
Pie - the best reason against is Cousin already calls me crazy cat lady
