...and how many of the IMDB Bottom 100 movies have you seen?

Wooo-hoooo 14!

I own 2 of them…

Leonard Part 6 and House of the Dead

I’ve seen four, three of them because I was a fan of the Medved brothers’ books about bad movies that came out in the late Seventies, so I saw a bunch of them to see for myself how bad they were. A lot of the films referenced in those books are not on the IMDB list, so that explains the low total.

The fourth one was Master of Disguise, and yes, that was a bad movie, but I’ll tell you right now, when my younger daughter was 3, it was her favorite movie. I’m sure there are bad movies that are bad no matter what age you are, but that particular Dana Carvey vehicle seems to have been tailor made for people who are still too young to read. I would strike it from the list for that reason alone.

Zero

Probably because I generally read a few reviews before I go see a movie, and if every single review says it is horrible, I tell myself to wait for DVD (or in the old days, wait for video). By that time, a few people have given me their reviews and…voila…I missed all of those turkeys.

Although even with my foolproof plan, I have still seen my share of crap - but apparently not as bad as those 100.

I figure somewhere in the 6 to 15 range, but you could probably double or triple that since I wouldn’t be inclined to remember the names of craptacular movies.

I don’t recall having seen a single one of these.

I was surprised that my Top 250 number was as high as it was (168), and now I’m surprised that my Bottom 100 isn’t higher. I’ve seen 18 of these movies. I even liked a few of them. Seriously, Piranha Part Two: The Spawning is a fun movie.

I guess I just like really good movies and really bad movies. I have quite a few of the Something Weird DVDs, and none of the movies that I’ve seen from this list are as bad as Mulva: Zombie Ass Kicker, which I also own. This is my Netflix queue as it sits right now:

  1. Downfall - was very good

  2. Kurosawa’s Red Beard - extraordinary, I intend to purchase it soon

  3. Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter - haven’t watched it yet

  4. Oldboy - from the Top 250

  5. Zardoz

  6. Cannibal! The Musical

Only 9, I’m proud to say.

I think I saw Kazaam and Spice World. I’m fairly confident about Spice World, as I had a friend in high school who loved the Spice Girls. The blurb on Kazaam is completely unfamiliar, but I feel like I’ve seen Shaq in a genie outfit.

But honestly, if I saw either of these, I thoroughly blocked the memory.

None.

I’m kind of suprised. I thought a Bronson film might be included.

4 I saw on MST3K:
Manos
Wild World of Batwoman
Eegah
Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (I actually think this one could be palatable on its own. Much of my enjoyment of the MST3K episode is that the movie is easy to watch, whereas some movies they do are simply painful.)

6 I saw on their own:
The three Police Academy ones (I LIKED these! I probably still would. They’re silly and light.)
2001: A Space Travesty (Talk about your self-fulfilling prophecies. Seen it on Comedy Central, and it’s god-awful, especially compared to usual Leslie Nielsen fare.)
Double Dragon (For what it was, this one wasn’t terribly bad. Post-apocalyptic urban gang movie for kids.)
Street Fighter (The saddest thing about this movie is it was the last one Raul Julia ever did. He was the single bright, shining star in what is otherwise fertilizer. I’ve seen a couple of comments saying it wasn’t bad for the source material, and let me tell you: it is hideous considering the source material. In the last few years I’ve become a heavy fighting game aficionado, and it’s just dreck. Plain, simple dreck. You want a good video game movie, Street Fighter: The Animated Movie wipes the floor with this stinker. Better characterization, better acting, better story.)
Oh god, I’ve become Comic Book Guy. Kill me now.

Overall, not as many as I would’ve thought. If it had a higher concentration of movies shown on MST3K, I might have a higher count.

Anything that was MST’ied, I’ve seen, of course. But…

I LIKED “It’s Pat.” No! I’m not kidding!! I really did. I honestly and truly did. Okay, so I was apparently the only sentient being in the universe who DID like it.

Just one: Police Academy 5: Miami Beach.

But that’s only because it was during my whack-off-to-Leslie-Easterbrook phase.

Slight hijack: I thought I had seen “Crossroads,” but upon checking IMDB, I had the wrong movie (I was thinking of the one with Ralph Macchio). But I recognized the director of the Britney Spears version, Tamra Davis. A few moons ago I did story coverage (which is reading scripts for movie production companies and providing a synopsis and opinion) and it was another one of her scripts that I gave positively hellacious coverage on, the worst script I have ever read. Ironically, it is the only script I did coverage on that ever got made: “Men Cry Bullets.” A terrible script, an outright “F,” but only a D movie (IMHO), a very quirky midnight movie type piece with at least some redeeming value and a few worthwhile moments. Both the director and producer were in attendance and I told the producer I had done a coverage of it, which I happened to have with me. And he wanted to see it. And so I showed it to him. Never before have I seen a person’s face turn so long so quickly. I had never realized before that moment that making the movie was something they took seriously, more than a vehicle for their own amusement. And I suspect quite a few of the other bottom 100’s poured their hearts and souls into their movies as well.

And it still bothers me to this day that I made them feel that way.

Anybody who’s tried it knows: makin’ movies is hard.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers*
Problem Child 2*
Street Fighter*
Aces: Iron Eagle III**
Spice World*
Leonard Part 6
Kazaam*
3 Ninjas: High Noon at Mega Mountain*
*I have children and a VCR. Children have baaaaad taste in movies.
**I have a husband who loves action adventure. It doesn’t matter how bad the movie is, if it has explosions, tits, the military and/or fighting he’ll love it. He loved Sniper. Navy Seals should have won an Oscar. He even loves Lost World-- the stupidest TV show EVER!
Leonard Part 6 was all me, though.

Well, I get to add another one to the list. By some weird wild coincidence my boyfriend came over last night with a couple movies, one was 2001:A Space Travesty. It was deserving of it’s bottom 100 but the aliens weren’t too badly done, although most were ripoffs of other movie aliens.

I’ve seen seven, with bits of one or two others.

Six:
You Got Served
Glitter
Marci X
Crossroads
It’s Pat

Boy, that’s embarrassing!

Only 1: Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (from my childhood-- :shudder: )

I’ve only seen one all the way through, The Honeymooners, which wasn’t too bad, really, and doesn’t deserve to be on the list. As opposed to Cool World (the 1992 supposedly sexy movie cartoon with Kim Basinger) and Krull (a 1983 sword/sorcery flick I slept through) which both deserve to be on the list.
