And on earth: peace, goodwill towards men - a defiantly Christmas-y MMP

So, this new massage place opened in town (stop smirking), it’s part of a chain, but I got this offer for a discount, introductory massage.

Oh. My.

That was possibly the best single hour of the week for me. I’m going back, Veronica hit ALL the buttons. I can move my shoulder now (look see…?) and I feel completely relaxed and …better.

I’m jealous. I love a good massage, but for some reason, never treat myself that way.
Pot roast is almost done, then a walk, then? Another night, surfing the TV. What the hell…

ooooooooo - I want a massage - I need to be all relaxed and stuff. I only had one real honest-to-goodness massage in my life - 1978. I earned it in trade. I did some hemming and ironing for a guy in my company in OCS, and he gave me the massage.

He was a corpsman in the Navy, and his mother had chronic pain, so he learned as a young man to give theraputic massages to help her. As he worked the muscles, he was talking to me, explaining where the muscles attached and having me consciously relax them. By the time he was done, I was as tense as overcooked pasta. I swear, if there had been a fire, I wouldn’t have been able to move to run away, I was soooooooooooo relaxed.

I’d have proposed if he wasn’t already married.

Anyway, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - I make goooood sketties! The bread was yum, too, but I’d neglected to get an extra stick of butter out of the fridge, so I had to nuke it to soften it a bit. It was all so good, I don’t even want dessert. At least not at the moment. Who knows how I’ll feel in an hour or so??

The tree is down. I’m gonna leave the living room still decorated at least through tonight though, because I’m really pleased how it looks this year. Very warm and cozy! (The tree is in the office (the front room) this year, because we had room in front of the new window that faces the street.)

All the ornaments are packed up. How come I need another tote now? I didn’t buy that much new xmas stuff, did I?

Haze, I’m sorry you don’t like football. Tonight we have TWO good games, at least in my neck of the woods. We have the Texas A&M college bowl game which is local I guess, and the Patriots are probably gonna break a record. I grew up on football!

Well, Papa Tigs and the Idiots had a very successful trip to the dog beach. In fact, Rusty, who has regularly appointed himself cleanup dog – seriously, any toys other overexcited dogs leave out in the water, he’ll swim out and retrieve – has now apparently appointed himself Beach Babysitter, too. Several people came down with young dogs, i.e. less than 6 month old labs and goldens, and Rusty decided it was his responsibility to make sure the pups didn’t stray too far from their people. So every time one would start to run off, he’d chase after it and herd it right back! All together now: Awwww! That dog gets stranger and stranger, I swear. :dubious:

I got one of the two bookcases in my office completely sorted out, and was halfway through the second when I ran out of boxes to put the books I’m getting rid of into. So we went off on the Great Box Hunt. Went to the little UPS store in the neighborhood; she’d closed 20 minutes earlier, but in the one minute we were there, we saw four other customers come and check to see if she was open. So maybe she needs to readjust her hours; I shall mention it to her. Then we went to Office Depot, except not only was the parking lot insane, they were out of the size boxes I wanted. We finally found a big storage place that had boxes, but by that point we were also hungry, so we stopped by a diner for a late lunch.

So now it’s suppertime but I just ate lunch an hour ago and I just want to take a nap, not go back to work! But the books won’t sort themselves. :frowning: Oh well, I guess I’ll be extra good so I can reward myself by an evening with my feet up knitting. Which sounds like heaven about now!

I need to start getting regular massages, but the challenge is affording it around here.

I wish I’d seen the Idiots out there. Rusty the herding dog? But puppies, awww, puppies!

I like this picture of me on Christmas Day. Kiss the cook!

I’ve been decluttering my bedroom. It actually wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I seem to be able to let go of things all of a sudden. I’m about halfway done, if I include the closet. The closet that has been unusable for years because it was crammed full of stuff. If I don’t count the closet, I’m almost finished in the bedroom. I think I’ll pick up some extra garbage tags for Monday’s trash pick up.

I mailed a couple of packages out today, including the yarn to the very surprised woman who asked if some of the laceweight in my stash was for sale, and I told her I’d *give *it to her, as long as it was going to a good home. She promised to love it and squeeze it and name it George, so I’m sure it will be happy in its new home. Now if I can just find homes for the other unloved yarns in my stash…

I am sorting through all my Cook’s magazines, tearing out the recipes I want and recycling the rest.
Must learn how to cast on tonight–watching TV is boring. Knitting is boring–the two together look like fun…

Rigs, do you have a copier/printer? I have taken to copying the pages I want, and keeping them in a recipe binder that has sections for chicken, beef, veggies, etc. It helped me organize my recipes into one place. Then you can throw out the magazine! I do this for recipes I get off the net, too. (I have about 20-30 magazines I need to do this with, so I’m one to talk… but I did mark the pages with a paper clip!)

Heh. I want that apron. Nice kitchen!

Thanks! I asked my husband, but he doesn’t remember where he got it the apron. I got it for a birthday present!

I’ll kiss you, if I can have one of those sugar cookies. Please?
Hey, everybody–I cast ON! I am so excited–that website is terrific. The lady has such a nice speaking voice and the directions are very clear. I get to knit tonight while watching House! yay! Very excited over here. My yarn looks something like this: variegatedcranberrytweed

Mine has more blue and teal in it–I can’t find it online. I bought it over 2 years ago, when I first tried to knit. I was told to NOT do variegated yarns because they make it hard to see your stitches, so I bought some gray, which became my “prison gray scarf”–I hated it. So now I AM having trouble seeing my stitches, but I love my yarn. C’est la vie.

Around here it’s “Ima gone jerk a knot in you!” and it’s usually reserved as a momma threat. Other appropriate threats are “I’ll slap you into next week!” and “I’ll slap you nekkid!”

Tonight we watched Sordid Lives. I giggle my way through this movie every time I see it. Funnnneeeeee!!!

There’s lots of pretty yarns that you can still see your stitches with, Rigs, so if that one really gives you problems, don’t hesitate to switch – look for a bright colored, smooth yarn with a nice tight twist; that’s the easiest kind to see easily. Congrats on casting on, though! Which cast-on did you do, long tail? That’s my favorite (probably because it was the first one I learned), although I do others. Just, whatever you do, don’t try to learn Old Norwegian until you’ve been knitting at least ten years. What crazy maniac ever figured that one out, I will never know!

Gorgeous kitchen, Rebo – I am so jealous! We had a lovely spacious, sunny kitchen in New Orleans, but this stupid house has a dinky little closet by comparison. We literally have less than 5 feet of counter space altogether, and there’s no vent hood for the stove so we finally had to give up and take down the smoke alarms since they were going off Every. Single. Time. we cooked. And we only have 3 kitchen drawers and only 3 upper cabinets, and the pantry closet is only 6" deep! It’s completely and utterly ridiculous. Especially since this kitchen is a so-called modernization – whenever they added on the dining room/master bedroom in the back of the house some years ago, they “upgraded” the kitchen. If this is an upgrade, I shudder to think what the previous one was like!

Oh well. It’s not like we’re going to live here forever. Thank heaven! We’re seriously considering looking for a repo and living in it and fixing it up. We did enough upgrading to our house in New Orleans to learn that, by only narrowly avoiding coming to blows, we can work together, plus Papa Tigs is a whiz with power tools. Even a repo would probably feel like an improvement after this annoying little house. Although what I really want to do is go buy our New Orleans house back and live there forever!!

Enough whining. On to bragging: I got five boxes of books packed for Papa Tigs to run over to Goodwill tomorrow, and then I’ll tackle the living room bookcase and the one back in the dining room. Otherwise known as my sewing area, although every time I get it sorted out and organized, Papa Tigs cleans another area out by dumping all the stuff back there. Grr…plus there’s the three boxes of family photos that snowbunny was supposed to sort through and organize for me last winter but she never got to. Hmm, maybe if you’re bored, snowbunny, I should send those to you and hold your ice skates and Star Wars DVD set hostage? <evil leer>

But sorting the photos is definitely a “later” task – there’s far more pressing things to be done. Like finishing sorting the last of snowbunny’s stuff out of the spare bedroom, cleaning up the sewing/dining room, and then last but definitely not least, doing a complete sort of my yarn stash. I’ve got lots of Mardi Gras bead bags to sort the yarn into – they’re a great size, water- and bug-proof, and are easy to move around. Plus if I don’t over-fill them, they’ll fit under beds. That’s a project for February, when Papa Tigs is away at conferences for ten days – I’ll be able to spread my yarn out all over the place and not have to listen to him gasp in horror at how much of it there is!

Anyway, I have done an excellent job of de-cluttering today, and am now going to reward myself by going and putting my feet up and vegging in front of some stupid TV show with some knitting. The dogs are totally wiped out after their energetic afternoon and Papa Tigs is struggling with the only computer game to challenge him in living memory, so the house is nice and peaceful. A good time to get some rest, and then get up again tomorrow and do it all over again.

I did the long tail and made my tail waaaay too long… But I put 28 stitches on my size 8 needles, so I’m off. I only know how to knit. I’m not going to worry about purling for a bit–like the next thing I knit. I am going to make a scarf with this–a very, very long scarf. I don’t care–it’s fun and something new for me.

I’d like to move up to a shawl for my mom (she gets cold when she sits and reads), but I’m happy for now. And don’t tell me about the math involved–let me discover that horror on my own!
Rebo-organizing my recipe box is a task for another winter. I keep meaning to type them up on the puter, print them out and put them in a book. And then there are those photos to organize…
All my Cook’s are recycled. I cannot bring myself to recycle my British Heritage mags–they give me ideas on where to go and what to see in UK.

Off to take a long hot bath (after a very cold walk outside), then TV and knitting!

(god, I’m ready for the nursing home…)

Ah, photo sorting. I have an oversized shoebox with photos going back to high school. Some day… Probably the same day I burn my digital pics on to a CD.

I think I’m gonna mosey to bed. Kissy-kissy all around!

There’s an ad for Corn Yarn that says it’s lighter than bamboo. I find this disturbing but I don’t know why.

I’m considerin’ beddybye in a few myself. Ol’ y’all know who went to “lie down for a minute” and is now snoozin’ away. AWWWWW…

Gah. The internet is having a bad hair day at my house. Right now I’m connected via my cellphone.

I’m just a bit crabby because I miss TVMan. I won’t get to see him until New Year’s Eve because PieMom and I are going to make more cookies tomorrow and then I have to do those free appetizers monday morning. :frowning: :frowning:

And… I had a bunch of things that I wanted to say, but it’s taken me so long to connect that I’ve forgotten them all.

Except for this… Yes, Roo, I’m with you.

I am sooooo not going to go there.

Very nice kitchen, Rebo! I am so jealous!!

My daughter and I made it to Takoma Park this afternoon and visited both the yarn and bead shops. Whoa, was I surprised at the price of wool! My daughter did get a beading kit, though, so maybe I’ll get a nice bracelet out of it. And we found a Middle Eastern restaurant that had a really tasty lamb schwarma pita wrap (schwarma is like the Middle Eastern version of the Greek gyro)–it was sooo good! This is only the second place I’ve found that makes a schwarma that I like, and it’s a bit closer than the other one. Plus, they have an all-you-can-eat brunch on Sundays, and it’s only $7.95!! We’re definitely going back to check out the brunch. All that sort of made up for the disappointment that the home-made ice cream shop doesn’t make my favorite flavor - mango coconut - during the winter months, and the little pastry shop didn’t have any more chocolate croissants left! I should mention that Takoma Park is also the home base of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, so many of the eateries offer vegetarian fare; it does make for good eating.

So tomorrow morning, it’s grocery shopping, then I’m in for the day, hopefully before the bad weather starts. First, it was just rain and maybe some freezing rain/sleet; now they’re talking about freezing rain/sleet turning to a mix with snow later in the evening!!
