There’s lots of pretty yarns that you can still see your stitches with, Rigs, so if that one really gives you problems, don’t hesitate to switch – look for a bright colored, smooth yarn with a nice tight twist; that’s the easiest kind to see easily. Congrats on casting on, though! Which cast-on did you do, long tail? That’s my favorite (probably because it was the first one I learned), although I do others. Just, whatever you do, don’t try to learn Old Norwegian until you’ve been knitting at least ten years. What crazy maniac ever figured that one out, I will never know!
Gorgeous kitchen, Rebo – I am so jealous! We had a lovely spacious, sunny kitchen in New Orleans, but this stupid house has a dinky little closet by comparison. We literally have less than 5 feet of counter space altogether, and there’s no vent hood for the stove so we finally had to give up and take down the smoke alarms since they were going off Every. Single. Time. we cooked. And we only have 3 kitchen drawers and only 3 upper cabinets, and the pantry closet is only 6" deep! It’s completely and utterly ridiculous. Especially since this kitchen is a so-called modernization – whenever they added on the dining room/master bedroom in the back of the house some years ago, they “upgraded” the kitchen. If this is an upgrade, I shudder to think what the previous one was like!
Oh well. It’s not like we’re going to live here forever. Thank heaven! We’re seriously considering looking for a repo and living in it and fixing it up. We did enough upgrading to our house in New Orleans to learn that, by only narrowly avoiding coming to blows, we can work together, plus Papa Tigs is a whiz with power tools. Even a repo would probably feel like an improvement after this annoying little house. Although what I really want to do is go buy our New Orleans house back and live there forever!!
Enough whining. On to bragging: I got five boxes of books packed for Papa Tigs to run over to Goodwill tomorrow, and then I’ll tackle the living room bookcase and the one back in the dining room. Otherwise known as my sewing area, although every time I get it sorted out and organized, Papa Tigs cleans another area out by dumping all the stuff back there. Grr…plus there’s the three boxes of family photos that snowbunny was supposed to sort through and organize for me last winter but she never got to. Hmm, maybe if you’re bored, snowbunny, I should send those to you and hold your ice skates and Star Wars DVD set hostage? <evil leer>
But sorting the photos is definitely a “later” task – there’s far more pressing things to be done. Like finishing sorting the last of snowbunny’s stuff out of the spare bedroom, cleaning up the sewing/dining room, and then last but definitely not least, doing a complete sort of my yarn stash. I’ve got lots of Mardi Gras bead bags to sort the yarn into – they’re a great size, water- and bug-proof, and are easy to move around. Plus if I don’t over-fill them, they’ll fit under beds. That’s a project for February, when Papa Tigs is away at conferences for ten days – I’ll be able to spread my yarn out all over the place and not have to listen to him gasp in horror at how much of it there is!
Anyway, I have done an excellent job of de-cluttering today, and am now going to reward myself by going and putting my feet up and vegging in front of some stupid TV show with some knitting. The dogs are totally wiped out after their energetic afternoon and Papa Tigs is struggling with the only computer game to challenge him in living memory, so the house is nice and peaceful. A good time to get some rest, and then get up again tomorrow and do it all over again.
