I survived work. The MMP is a blur. Can’t wait for Monday.
Whoa, herbs, boy did you bring back some memories!
The last (and first) time I was in Takoma Park was when my business partner and I were visiting with her sister and brother in law. The are professional folk musicians. They call themselves Magpie. Anyways, they have an apartment over a music store in Takoma Park. While we were visiting, another musician friend of theirs, Pat Humphries, just happened to stop by. You may have heard of her before, there was an NPR piece about one of her songs. Anyways, it was a totally cool experience. And I even remember going into a bead shop and making a necklace for PieMom.
Gosh, I miss D.C. Maybe for our next vacation we can head in that direction.
All purtied up and ready to go out. God, I need more girlfriends. I don’t even know why I bother making myself look nice when I go to hang out with these philistines and drink cheap beer. But my mother did bring me up to look presentable when leaving the house, no matter the reason. Thanks, Mom.
Do I look presentable? Can I go now, Mom?
Yum.
yay for mountains of cookie dough and great massages and Tom Lehrer* and pretty kitchens and Middle Eastern gyros!
I had a good day. My friend and I went first to lunch and had yummy Jewish diner food (stuffed derma and creamed herring and real fresh chicken soup with fluffy matzoh balls), then we went to Catherine’s. The entrance fee for each of us was enormous, but I got numbers 4, 5, 6, 24, 27, 62, and 63 of these tops, and some others as well. Friend had already ordered them on line so once again we can do the Bobsie Twin thing. Then we went to Claire’s and their entrance fee was very high also, but I came out of there with lots and lots of pretty happy shiny earrings. If you ask real nice-like, I’ll lay them all out and take a picture to show you.
We went back to her place, dropped off her packages, picked up her husband, and went to dinner at that great little restaurant I’d been to before back in October. Food there is uber-excellent. So good, in fact, with each bite friend’s husband ate, his eyes rolled back in his head.
After dinner they went to their favorite ice cream parlor for dessert, but I don’t like eating ice cream in cold weather so I came home.
I am almost finished with my nice hard Mike’s, so off to sleep with me.
- you should hear my rendition of “I Hold Your Hand In Mine” and “The Hunting Song” with piano playing friend accompanying me.
Oh rosie… I like shiny, pretty earrings.
Ooooh, me too!
I’ll take that as a yes. And finally, the philistines call. This place is supposed to have two dollar Guinness - I don’t like Guinness, though. Hm.
Anyway, off to follow the call of alcohol. 'Night MMPers! :: blows kisses ::
okay - tomorrow I will photograph my earrings and post the pics. But to hold you over until then, this is from my last trip to Claires: it’s nothing compared to today’s spree.
Goodnight
:Jealous of Rebo’s kitchen:
I didn’t get huge amounts of housework done today, but QD, Attacks Husband, Lazy Husband, and Driving Husband were just over, and after I made dinner QD washed the dishes, cleaned and scrubbed the kitchen window ledge, washing machine, passthrough, and stove. And organized my fridge. So everything’s really tidy. She was just starting on organizing my pantry when I decreed that they had to go, because it was midnight.
Tomorrow we’re going to vacuum and mop all the floors. I’ll do some. Mr. Lissar gets the rest of it. I promise I am not overworking myself. I’m watching him clean a lot. We’ll head off to church either for the 11 a.m. Mass or go to the cathedral downtown for the 5 p.m. depending on how easy it is to get Mr. Lissar up tomorrow morning.
I think the New Year’s plans are for the same people to come over, and for us to watch Driving Husband (good Mennonite boy) drink himself blind.
Just watched 2 episodes of House and knit 4 rows, only to rip it all out and cast on again. This time, the tension is more even, but it still ain’t pretty. Oh, well–it’s a scarf for me.
Anyone want to post in my HP5 thread I started in cafe soc? I’m off to bed for now. Tree comes down in the morning.
Hazel–(in my mother’s voice) “you look very nice, dear.”
Night, all.
Morning all! There is just far too much cleaning, organising and decluttering going on in here for my liking. I only had 6 hours of red-wine impaired sleep on Friday night and last night I managed 4.5 hours before I had to get up and drop sis to the airport, before trying to squeeze in another couple of hours before HRH woke up. Unfortunately, my sinuses have decided they REALLY don’t like cold weather, so much so that I have a really bad earache which kept me from falling back to sleep. So I am truly zzzzzzzzausted today and wishing I had some more holiday left!
Nooner, it sounds like you had a great (and busy) time in London. As for the shellfish thing, certain Shi’a muslims don’t/won’t eat shellfish. I can’t remember the reasoning, but I am fairly certain it has something to do with them not being capable of Halal slaughter (how would you slit the throat of a squid?)
SCL, sorry your Christmas was a downer, but yay for all the gift vouchers. Retail therapy is a good thing - a panacea for all ills, my mother would say (particularly as she indulged excessively at the Boxing Day sales at home!).
beebs, I’m glad you got your car back with only minimal damage, and giving the Dora game to the Haitian kids was a very sweet thing to do!
VBob and swampus, if I could get you over here for tomorrow night to whup some sense into the boy, I would. I just found out he is my friend’s daughter’s date at the New Year’s ball we are going to tomorrow night! :smack: Here’s hoping he’s not such a prat tomorrow!!!
MBG, massage is GOOOOOOOOD! One of my close friends gave me an aromatherapy massage voucher for Christmas, to be used at the Ritz Carlton spa!!! I will lurve using that one!!
Rebo, I am absolutely green with envy about your kitchen. My kitchen is a poky little affair, with barely enough room to swing a dish-cloth, let alone a cat! And the apron is really cute. I thought about names for your nutcracker too, but all that popped into my head was “Ball-Boy”!
herbs - shawarma is my idea of an evil but simple dinner. Actually they’re best eaten after a long night of drinking, just before you toddle home to bed. :: drool ::
Okay, back to pretending to do some work. Ciao all!
ETA: Haze, you look distractingly sexy! (said the straight married woman …)
Gooood morning everybody!
First day back at work, and yet I’m still in a good mood. Weird. Then again, that is (well, should be) my middle name, after all…!
Herbs… mmmm, shwarma! The perfect fast food Did they serve it there with tehina on top or with yogurt (which would be more Greek style)?
**Haze **-- I always love seeing your pictures, and this one was no exception. Or, to be more explicit, what Dotty said! (and I’m straight and married, too! Well, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad, right?)
LiLi, I swear, you’ll probably find looking after the baby to be restful the way you’re going right now!
Shadow, sounds like you’re doing well… that’s great to hear! Hope things look up for you (and all the others who need it) in 2008.
::waves to **SCL **as she drives by:: Sorry you’re so overworked! Hope you have more time and energy to join us next year!!
**Roo **& **CutiePie **-- where exactly do you think I’m going? I just got back! I’m not going anywhere!! So it must all be in your heads
Massages are good.
Yep, I’m up early, caffeinated too! I’m hitting the grocery store early today.
Rosie, you did make a great haul at Claires! I love that place, but I wish the store wasn’t so small–I’m always afraid of accidentally bumping into one of those full stands of earring and knocking it over!
SpecialOne, I think the sauce had yogurt in it along with the tahini, so it wouldn’t have been Kosher (I had a Kosher shawarma once, and didn’t like it as much; I guess I like the yogurt in the sauce!). I’ve not tried a chicken shawarma yet, but would probably like that as well. It is delicious stuff!!
PieGirl, I love to visit and explore in Takoma Park; they’ve got lots of neat shops there. They also have a year-round farmer’s market on Sundays.
Well, I gotta make up my grocery list (mundane!); I’m going to do some more baking & cooking today too (probably put something in the crock pot). Enjoy your Sunday all.
Heh; the only reason I might care whether a food is kosher is I’ll probably enjoy it more if it isn’t… I was wondering about the taste factor.
OTOH, if the kosher shwarma you got was in Israel, the difference in taste was more likely due to the fact that the meat was almost certainly (unless specifically stated otherwise) turkey rather than lamb, and not to the lack of yogurt in the sauce.
For all the years I’ve lived around here, I’ve never been to Takoma Park. Now I want to see it! Am I easy to influence or what??
Looks like we’re in for a full day of rain. That’s fine - we really need it, and it gives me a valid excuse not to go outside and mulch leaves. But it’s so doggone dreary… <sigh>
My plans: Finish the living room. Clean out the hall closet. Make a good dinner. Maybe start on one of the spare bedrooms?? Or I could just sit here all day. Decisions, decisions. I almost hope **FCD ** doesn’t want to go out for breakfast - it sounds like too much trouble.
And on that note, I’m off to read the funnies. Happy Sunday, all!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ here. It’s dreary and cloudy out. It might or might not rain more. It’s still kinda warmish so I’m bettin’ on more rain, which is much needed and appreciated.
Soon, I must purtify. I’m up for usher duty this mornin’, so ush I shall.
Dotty you could take the heathen off to the side and just let him know that you know a couple people who will whump him upside the haid if’n he don’t behave. You don’t have to tell him that said friends are waaaaaaaaay far away.
Haze does it count if a gay man says you’re purty?
Everyone else, yay, boo, hugs, squees of delight as appropriate.
Off to caffienate and see if I can get ol’ y’all know who to become part of the land of the living.
Later Y’all!
You’ve got to visit Takoma Park, FCM, :: peer pressure voice:: everybody’s doing it!
Dotty, I hope that your cold weather and stuffy sinuses disappear soon.
Li-Li, I agree with** Dotty**, I think it probably will be like taking a break for you once you have the baby. Too bad you’re not closer, I’d loooove to have you work with me especially with your affinity for baking and cooking.
I’m surprised that we didn’t get the obligatory drunken post from Haze after last night.
Noone Weird Special. That is your name? It’s a shame because I’ve really taken a liking to ‘Master Ribald’ myself. It brings to mind a sort of sinister looking guy with a black top hat and cape, just sort of twirling his mustache.
I’m up and going to check on my great pumpkin recipe thread to see if anyone has any idea before heading off to the shop.
rigs, I would have posted in your HP5 thread, but the DVD is still on its way. And TVMan and I saw the movie at a drive-in as the second part of a double feature. We were both so tired that I’m surprised that we didn’t actually fall asleep. So I really don’t remember much about it the first time around.
Morning!
I’m up and caffeinating early because of the stoopit idgit dogs who don’t understand weekend hours. So now I’m awake and after being fed, they’re all asleep again. grumble grumble stoopid idgits grumble…
Thanks for all the compliments to my kitchen. I really do love it. I bought this house because of the size of the kitchen. We remodeled it about 3 years ago. We did everything ourselves except the tile floor. When I peeled off the wallpaper, there were THREE layers - all of them butt-ugly. Here’s some more pictures if you’re interested.
I’m going grocery shopping later. I’m gonna get the prime rib roast for New Year’s Day. Mmm! And finish the laundry, and probably go to the mall and exchange some stuff. Busy busy busy. Tonight we’re having chicken piccata. I’ll never get skinny with so many untried recipes out there! S’ok - no resolutions for me this year, 'cept to resolve not to have any. Heh.
It’s cool and rainy. The cat is sleeping on the toilet(It’s not that kind of throne, Lucretia). I work all day today, and my arthritis is acting up. Enjoy your Sunday, Mumpers.
