I have twelve people showin’ up for dindin on New Year’s. Ok, that’s not so bad cause it’s kinda usual but still I always get all  when I start thinkin’ about it. It’s a lot of cookin’. Fortunately, I am real organized with this and know what needs to happen when to have it all together. For example, today I make the ‘nanner puddin’ cause it’s ok to make ahead a couple of days. Tomorrow is major cookin’ because I can cook collards, blackeyed peas and make the N.O.T. sallit. The collards and peas can be heated up on Tuesday. IMO they taste better after they’re cooked and sit overnight. Tuesday I’ll fry chicken in by biiiiiig electric skillet, cook the rice and make cornbread. Then consumin’ of mass quantities will ensue.
Ok, panic over. I’m all purtified. It has arisen and is in the midst of purtification. In just a bit I’ll leave and head on over so’s I can make sure stuff is in place, which is part of ushin’ duties. Ol’ y’all know who will head over on his own a little later cause he does not want to just hang out whilst I do stuff. Can’s say’s I blame him.
Oh, y’all remember the lady I refer to as Albeeeny mom? She’s 85 and has made the decision, on her own may I add, to go into assisted living. I am proud of her for recognizing it’s time. The place she’s goin’ to is really nice. It’s a one bedroom apartment with a good sized kitchen (like she cooks!), a really big living room and bedroom with two big walk-in closets and a bathroom that is fully accessible. I was all  when she told me it’s $1900 a month but then not so much when she told me what it includes. It includes all meals (with an option to either eat in the dining room or have meals brought to her), utilities (except for phone), twice weekly cleaning services, transportation to medical appointments and to run errands as desired (she still drives and can bring her own vehicle), and some other stuff I can’t remember. OOH, and the place has a really nice balcony. Anywho, I am as I said proud of her for realizing the need and making the decision on her own rather than having her sons (who have power of attorney) having to make it for her down the road. Oh, nursing assistance as needed is included too.
Wow, that was long and rambly! However, I know all of ya just live to read whatever it is ramblin’ in my haid that I choose to share.
oh, honey, that’s from 2006, and nothing compared to yesterdays pillage. I’ll prove that a little later on. And as for maneuvering around the store, if I can manage it, you have nothing to worry about.
So… PieMom has a very bad cold today. And now I’m lazy and bogged down by schnoodles. Maybe cookie-making won’t occur today. Or at least not until after a nap.
Hi everyone - truly a drive-by. Arrived safely, without weather disruption (there was really only slush at O’Hare, which only slowed things down). Might have access on and off…
Good morning, everyone (just barely). Papa Tigs let me sleep in again this morning, which was so nice of him! I was TAHRED after all that book sorting and box hauling yesterday. Now he’s got the hand truck out to load the boxes in the car and run 'em over to Goodwill. The dogs are nervous – they don’t like it when we get out boxes, they think moving will ensue. I don’t blame them, I don’t like the thought of moving, either.
Anyway, hugs, yays, boos, awww! cutes, whomps, etc. to everyone. I’m off to drink more coffee and try to decide where to start today.
Haze is probably too hungover to post.
I’m still all sleepy. We didn’t get to bed until 1:30 or so, I got up at 9:30 and had a bath, stumbled back into the bedroom, and didn’t emerge until 11. It’s a sleepy day. We’ll hit the cathedral 5 o’clock Mass. I think I’ll fold some laundry and then lie around a bit more. Going back to bed sounds attractive, too. Yawn.
I was awakened this morning at 9:00 am by the landscaper. Not mine, the neighbors’. Noisy noisy machines, so loud at times, I couldn’t hear the click of my keyboard. He is just now packing up his truck to leave. 3 hours? to do two lawns? I hate that guy.
I am now going back to sleep for a while. See y’all later.
Oooh Rosie, that -was- indeed a good haul for 2007! I do love to shop there for earrings; at least they’re fairly inexpensive (that way I don’t feel -too- bad when I lose one or something!).
SpecialOne, I had the kosher shawarma at an Israeli-run deli near the University of MD in College Park–it wasn’t like the Lebanese-version I had before, and I think it must have been the absence of the yogurt with the tahini.
I am back from the grocery store - it wasn’t too bad in there this morning, fortunately. Usually after 11 am on Sunday, though, folks start coming in after church, and then it gets wild. I couldn’t find an affordable pork loin, but did pick up some country style ribs, and we’ll have that tomorrow night for NYE; I’ve got collard greens and I’ll fix some black-eyed peas and rice (hoppin’ john style) and cornbread. YUM!
I’m going to make a egg beater omelet with some feta cheese and (hopefully!) spinach, cause now my stomach is grumbling.
I’m at work. This isn’t a problem, really. It means I’m not scrubbing my shower!
My roomie drove down to Costco yesterday, because he wasn’t back when I went to bed but when I got up there was a bunch of bulk stuff on the kitchen counter. He must have gotten paid earlier than I will be. Dratted pay periods.
Did GT finally get through Chicago and on to parts unknown? Note to self: must read for comprehension, not just your name…
I am up and baking again-- no idea what’s gotten into me. Must take tree down, too. Ugh and yuck and poo. Last year I made the kids do it. I will make them help.
another night of weird, but cool dreams involving a Mini, some place I took for New Zealand, but was probably Middle Earth in my own imagination, dinosaur bones, something akin to cowboys, and a ratty bag I carried around. But this time–it was all good, oddly enough…
Off to heat up my beer cheese soup. I made dinner rolls because we are out of bread and Mama ain’t goin’ to the store until tomorrow!
mmmm, rigs, I loooove beer cheese soup! And beer cheese fondue is even better.
rosie, that really is quite a haul. And I love how colorful they all are.
You know, snowbunny, it is possible that your bathroom might clean itself. Haven’t you ever seen those commercials for that thingy that you put in the shower and it does all the work for you? I mean, I don’t have one, but it could happen!
Master Ribald ** (yes, I’m KEEPING IT) and herbs**: This whole conversation makes me reeeeally want to say that I like kosher hot dogs. But I’m afraid that someone will twist my words.
I just gave all the dogs a bath. And I made the mistake of leaving my bedroom door open during the process. I haven’t been in there, but I’ll surmise that my bed is probably now fairly damp. I know at least one little white schnoodle who always like to make a beeline for my pillow!
Maybe because it’s a British chain… They have stores all over the world, but not in the US, as far as I could tell from this page (although they do have a few stores in Canada, apparently.)
**Cutie **-- fine, I don’t want it any more; you can keep it And of courseSome1 is going to twist your words. Only I’m keeping the twisted ideas to myself this time (yes, I’m behaving disgustingly nice this week, aren’t I? :D)
Haze was much too drunk last night to post anything. I got in somewhere between 3 and 4am and barely had the presence of mind to wash up before getting into bed. Sorry to disappoint everyone with the lack of a drunken post. We went to this bar with $2 Guinnesses that we’ve been to before - the prices go up by a dollar after the New Year so we figured we had to take advantage of it - but what we didn’t know was that Saturday night is karaoke night. The bar was packed and loud and there were no seats, so we left after a couple hours and played drinking games at Minister’s Lad’s house. Then the guys started getting into some drunken conversation about Columbine and Virginia Tech that I couldn’t follow because, er, I was too drunk, so then I left.
I was startled by my phone ringing just after I’d buried myself under the covers - it was That Guy (who’d also been out with us) and he wanted to know if I was okay - he thought I was upset/mad at him or something because I’d left so abruptly. I was both amused at his plaintive tone and annoyed because he’d just woken me up from the brink of sleep, but I assured him that I was simply too drunk to be my sunny self when I left.
rosie, that’s quite an impressive haul! I especially love the silver dangly ones.
