Either would be good. Anyone want to clean my livingroom so I can play with fabric and dough all day?
No?
Pthibbit.
I want stories of families acting badly! I vote for Sean!
Back from Sam’s Club. I don’t like that place, but it’s cheap for school lunch stuff.
I ahve nothing to do today-perhaps a nap. Tomorrow, I clean. Weekend, I work.
Yes, it’s a life of thrills and nonstop excitement.
Bought HP4, so will most likely watch it today (again). Some day, I’ll grow up.
Ooh! Am reading Bill Bryson’s History of Everything or some such. He is talking all about quarks and hadrons and I don’t what all else. So of course I thought of…our own spatsy rifty. Physics is one weird science, that’s all I can say…
why?
Savannah, wow! You are all in my thoughts. It takes a huge heart and perseverance to do what your hubby is doing. I hope things improve soon.
Dot, not much advice to offer, other than to politely, but firmly call these folks on what they’re doing. You are suffering harrassment. That is not acceptable.
It’s snowing and cold. The snow isn’t really sticking, but it’s snowing. There were maybe a couple of inches on the ground at my house, but here at work there wasn’t any on the ground. My work is closer to the water and a lower elevation than where I live.
I am taking tomorrow off…just because. I have things to do around the house anyway. I’ve already given my boss my leave slip.
I am TRYING to write up my support form. I hate having to list my major performance objectives and individual performance standards. Wish me luck.
What day is it? Actually, I know. Today is Friday. I can say this because I don’t have to work tomorrow. Ergo, today is Friday. But on Saturday I do have to work. My life is a trial. It’s like I’m Perry Mason, only different.
This is the first week of the New Schedule. (Which is why I haven’t been around yet.) Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are Full Days. Thursday is my Half Day. Friday and alternate Saturdays: off. Sundays: off. So next week I have a Long Weekend to deal with. How will I cope?
The problem with today (even though it’s only a Half Day) is I have to go into the Other Office. The Regular Office is a happenin’ place, there’s always something going on. The Other Office is quite… slow. I opened the joint up at 8:00 and by Noon I had:
- answered the phone five times
- read three magazines
- looked through three books actually related to veterinary medicine
- filled one prescription
- had to tell a woman (on the phone) that we can’t refill her (dog’s) heartworm medicine because her dog’s heartworm check is overdue (these are the rules, I don’t make 'em, up)
- and petted the Clinic Cat on the head some
I almost died from the boredom!
And it was even worse because the vet I was supposed to work with today is sick and didn’t come in. (There were no appointments all day, so why bother?) Heck I should have stayed home.
In other news: Nothing interesting popped out of an animal this week.
But there was this really cute kitten. Only four anna half pounds. Just tiny. And all sweet. She was rubbing up on everyone and purring and being real cute.
She was being real cute until it was time to take her temperature. Apparently she wasn’t done with her temperature and didn’t want anyone to take it. Wow! Was she cheesed!
I now have a track of scratch marks down the outside of my left arm from the base of my pinky to 3/4 of the way from my wrist to my elbow. It was rather ouchy. (I scrubbed it all out with surgical scrub to make it all clean.)
Once we were done with the whole thermometer thing the kitten was all happy and purry and cute again.
Cats really have to learn to hold the thermometers under their tongues.
It snowed here overnight too. Only about an inch, but it stuck.
Good on Mr. Savvy for doing the right thing, even though it’s tough. You’ll get through this Savvy, and you’ve got a good man there.
I have no advice for you Dot, I don’t suppose you could just shoot one or two of them? (I have poor inter-personal skills).I wish you luck.
Best bathe those cat scratches with holy water Rue.
So Bobbio, guys are starting to notice you in the locker room huh? That may not necessarily be a good thing. Good on ya’ for the weight loss though.
Someone just sent me a link to a .swf file, (Macromedia Flash/paper) but I can’t copy it to my clipboard to do anything with it. I hate that!
Today is my hump day 'cause I work Tues. - Sat. and I’m BORED! Nobody’s coming in. Nobody’s gonna come in. There’s snow on the ground! The end is near! Save the children!
Or something.
Well, assuming the powers that be approve the funds, it looks like I’ll by TDY in Alexandria/Falls Church, VA to attend a course in the Skyline Building.
Course dates are 9-11 May, so that means I’ll fly out 8 May and depending on when the class ends on the 11th, either fly back home the 11th or the 12th. I’m gunning for flying back the 12th.
I’ve already reserved my slot in the class, now I need to make my hotel reservation.
Do any of you fine folks live around there? I’m not real sure they’ll approve a rental car for me, as funds are pretty limited right now. I’m hoping to make a reservation at one of the hotels within walking distance of the Skyline Building.
What I’m trying to say in my very rambling way is that it would be very cool to meet up with some of you fine folk if you’re near and available.
All in favor of Sean doing next week’s MMP, say Aye!
AYE!!!
All against???
:::Crickets:::
There you have it! Sean does the MMP for the week of 3/13! YAAAA!!!
riggs, I just loved the Short History of The World. Especially all the parts where the different scientists dissed each other and stuff.
What is HP4?
Howdy, rue!
You have a good memory - he gave me a bunch of English Ivy - he bought it and didn’t want to be reimbursed. And apart from being generous that way, he’s just a nice person, and a great story teller. He did agree to come to dinner - heck, he asked if he could crash at our place if he’s late getting off work. His new job is in DC and he lives in Warsaw, VA - that’s like 75 miles or so - almost all on county and state roads, with lots of traffic lights. Horrid commute! And we’re sorta in between the two. Naturally, I told him he was welcome to either of our guest rooms.
Today was the 4th day from hell this week. Tomorrow the exercise begins, so it promises to be hellish also. I can see me whompin’ the dickens outta my clay come Saturday.
I need medicinal chocolate!!!
Right. I am definitely tidying the living room, and I am not trying to make a grey silk pet-en-l’air and fussing with the back pleats. I love 18th century stuff, but I hate doing the centre back pleating. Which I’m not doing. No.
The bread dough and cinnamon roll dough is rising. I should wash the mixer bowl and start preparing to bake gingerbread. I want to schedule breaad baking and cake baking for the same time, so I don’t have to heat the oven multiple times.
I’m not too awful far and I’ll have all afternoon of the 8th off since I’m having some blood work and stuff done that morning. Depending upon when you get it, I’d love to meet up with you! Alexandria is maybe 90 minutes from me - the only prob is having to cross the Wilson Bridge - well, not really a problem - more like a hassle. But if it’s not too late, I’d deal. Alternatively, if you’re able to get to the Metro, you could ride that to a station a bit nearer to me and I could meet you at the station and drive us to dinner… another possibility.
So, lemme know the details and we can probably work something out. That would be way cool!
but without the back pleating, where would you hide the bustle? I mean, you’re going thru all this trouble creating an 18th c. gown, you’ve gotta have a bustle. and you can call the dress ‘your hedge-row’…
::crickets::
And in the theme of this week’s MMP, Rue wins the Oscar for Best Kitty Story.
rigs, you have NO idea. It just gets weirder from there. S’why I love it.
If you like that book, you should try Stephen Hawking’s A Brief History of Time, or his The Universe In A Nutshell, or anything by Brian Greene.
HP4 = Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the fourth installment in the series.
Thanks, rifty. Harry Potter, oh yeah, just can’t get into him I’m afraid. Guess I’ll stick to Bill Bryson.
It’s really not a good story because it involves WAY more explanation than an amusing story is allowed to have: background from stuff that happened more than a year ago plus stuff that didn’t happen just under a year ago plus a character description of the person I was talking to and an explanation of weird real estate software. And then it’s not funny in the end.
However, one of my coworkers also stuck his foot in his mouth and that was a funny story. He asked me to look up some info, and I passed it off to the intern. I’m in charge since the usual Boss of the Interns is at a conference. So I gave it back to him later and he said “Ugh, you have that bubbly, girly handwriting.” And I said, “Um… nope, that’s [intern’s] handwriting.” And of course intern is a boy and was sitting two cubes away so probably overheard that he has “bubbly, girly handwriting.”
God, I am still laughing at this–thanks for the chuckle, Zine!
HP4=Harry Potter 4, as Spats said. And anyrose -I’m with you. Who needs to grow up, anyway? Worked pretty well for Peter Pan and Wendy, no? Hee.
I like the cosmos and stars etc–so maybe I would like Stephen Hawkin’s book. I do love me some Bill Bryson, though–that man must be a hoot to travel with!
Off to get #1 son’s haircut–he looks a bit like Chewbacca right now…He also needs to shave a bit more than once a month now. Any ideas on how to get him to do this? He’s 14.
Took a nap and then watched Kim Cattrall’s SexaulIntelligence until a friend who is having marital issues called me. So, I got to be therapist this afternoon as well. I should get paid just for being me, dontcha think?
Shouldn’t we ALL get paid just for being ourselves? I think I’m on to something here…
I am close to Falls Church. I’d love to see if all three of us could meet up.
Susan
Wow, this is sounding great. As I get more information, we can coordinate more. My boss still needs to ask for the money because our TDY budget was limited and this one wasn’t programmed in.
As I learn more, I’ll get back with you all. I’m really looking forward to this. I get to meet some more Dopers!
Woohoo - mini-MMP-fest! Gee, susan, I didn’t know you were so close to me. Or I knew and forgot, which happens because I’m so old… So, Taters, what’s the details??
Ah, the dreaded TDY $$$. I don’t even bother to ask about travel or training outside my building because of that. Which is fine - I don’t much feel like traveling these days.
